The Roof, Friday Morning

Ino was so glad there was something going on tomorrow because, seriously, she was starting to go stir crazy with lack of things to do. Yes, she had research, and studying, and training to do, but all of that was so not enough to keep herself occupied or to distract her from the steadily emptying dorms.

Which was why she’d wandered up to the roof, Staffy in tow, with the vague idea of maybe going for a bit of a fly. So far, all she’d managed to do, was sprawl out on the blanket she’d brought with her and stare at the sky. The clouds reminded her of Shikamaru, so she started trying to decide what each cloud-shape looked the most like.

She’d get to flying. In a bit.

Amber decided the roof was a good place to go right now, especially given her mood. Not that she was feeling emotastic, or terribly bitchy - but rather just blah.

Seeing Ino sprawled on a blanket didn't affect her either way as she walked over to the edge to peer out across the school grounds. She didn't say anything; she didn't want to interrupt Ino's cloud gazing.

Ino shifted a bit, at the movement, giving a quick side-long glance to see who'd joined her.

"You can sit down, if you'd like," she said, going back to her cloud gazing.

Looking over her shoulder, she considered the invitation for only a brief moment before she did just that. But Amber took full advantage of the blanket and laid back, folding her hands on top of her stomach while she looked up at the sky.

"Thanks," she said, voice quiet.

That got a slight shrug. It was a blanket, and Ino wasn't really keen on being left alone right now.

"That one there," Ino said, pointing at a cloud, "if you squint, looks a little like a butterfly from the side; when you can't see both wings."

Amber narrowed her eyes, and blinked, trying to bring the image into focus. "Yah, I can kind of see it." Then her gaze shifted to another group of clouds. "Look there," she pointed, "it's a toad, leaping."

"If he's not careful, he'll get attached to that cloud there," she said, "the one almost right above him. I don't think toads much like getting eaten."

Most things didn't, really.

"No... but then there is a rather large boot," she commented, tilting her head.

"I hear you and Liir are friends again?" Yes, out of the blue.

Ino was busy trying to figure out if Amber meant the boot was stepping on the toad, and it took her a second to get what else she'd said.

"We talked. We're not fighting anymore." She pointed. "That looks more like a boot to me, that one."

"I'm glad for that," she told her, being honest. "You're his best friend."

Amber had always thought so.

"Or a big fat cat," she said about the indicated cloud.

Ino blinked. "What?"

Seriously, now she really had no idea what Amber was on about.

She shrugged her shoulders. "I'm just saying... you two were great friends before, no reason you can't be again." And she would be leaving and Liir needed someone. Like Ino.

"I've never been his best friend," she denied rapidly. "Nuh huh."

"Hm," she murmured. She wasn't going to argue that point. Nope.

"I mean it," she said, huffing and shifting so she could put her arms behind her head.

"And I hear you. No need to repeat yourself." Certainly not for her benefit.

"Looking forward to the new kids tomorrow?" Topic change was safe. Besides, it's not like Liir talked to her about Ino anyway. She'd heard about their hugging make-up on the radio.

"I'm getting a new sibling!" she said, seizing on the topic change gladly. "At least, I applied, and if I don't get one I'm totally going to complain!"

That was a yes, yes she was looking forward to it.

"Aw, yay! That's great, Ino. And I wouldn't worry too much if I were you; you'll get one."

"Well, hopefully," she said, wrinkling her nose. "And hopefully I'll get a sibling that sticks 'round for awhile. All of mine have gone home."

"That's hard, I know," she said, bummed herself over people leaving. Sighing, she looked back up at the clouds. "It's just inevitable."

"I'm pretending it isn't," she informed her. "Which was totally why very few people saw me this week."

"Me too," she admitted. "I didn't even go to work. How lame is that?"

"Lame," she said agreeably. "I went to work, 'cause I like work and I honestly don't think Cable-san would be impressed if I moped in my room and that was why I didn't go."

"I like work," she said, wrinkling up her nose and shrugging her shoulder. "Just didn't feel like it this week. Don't feel like much of anything. New students tomorrow means I'll most likely drag my ass to the picnic, so there's that."

"Yeah, I'm just saying, 'I don't feel like it' would so not work with Cable-san." Or Eliza-san too, probably. "Yay new kids! Hopefully they're awesome!"

And hot. Ino was freely shallow about that bit.

"I hope it's nice out."

"Given this week, I think Turtle would totally understand. I don't know Cable, but I trust you there." Because Amber has seen him. "I hope so too, though I'm entirely open-minded." She figured most people usually had at least one awesome thing about them.

She wasn't at all thinking about the shirtlessness that went along with these occassions. Nope. Not her.

"Me too. But not too hot."

"Yes too hot," she said, contrarily. "'Cause then it's easier to talk the new kids into tradition. I'm so wearing a bathing suit under my stuff tomorrow."

Just in case anyone tried to turn that tradition around on her again.

"I'm open-minded! I just like awesome."

Amber laughed and shook her head. "That actually is not a bad idea." Not that she'd take off her shirt, even with a bathing suit underneath.

"Awesome is totally great," she agreed. "I'd kind of like to meet someone who totally blew me away by their awesome."

"It was Dojima-san's idea first," she admitted. "A few terms ago, she came up with it so she didn't get caught when they said 'so why don't you take off your shirt first'. I'm just using it for my own good."

"I wonder how much awesome it'd take to do that?"

"It's genius, really. And I wonder just how many new kids you can talk into starting the tradition," she said, grinning.

"Probably not much," she admitted. "I'm kind of easy like that."

"Depends on the guy-girl ratio," she mused. "Guys are way easier than girls."

"That's 'cause you're nice. So it's easy to be awesome to you."

"Of course they are. Every single one of them like to show off," she said, smirking. Then she thought of Liir. "Okay, not every single one."

And she thought of Cal. So there were a few guys who didn't care to get ogled. Possibly a few girls as well.

She sighed, then flashed Ino a quick grin. "I do try."

Robin came up on the roof to see who might be about. He also, as he often did when he came up here, had his banjo with him.

"Hi Ino! Do you have any requests?"
