JQ Adams Campfire, Tuesday Lunch Time!

One thing Jon loved about camping, was cooking outdoors. And he really wasn't in the mood for sandwiches and stuff for lunch, so after his morning class, Jon had stopped by the Kwik Stop and bought several packages of hot dogs and buns and a cooler to dump everything in. When he got back to the cabin, Jon started up the campfire and got to work on roasting the hot dogs. Not all at once, mind you, but he did remember to put a rather small sign on the front of the cabin (made out of notebook paper and marker) that said 'Free Lunch'.

Parker was still carrying the little gold idol from Archeology when she happened by the campsite and the free lunch sign. She stopped and told the boy with the fire, "I'd like some of the free lunch."

Jon waved a hand towards the cooler, concentrating on hotdog he was currently roasting. "Grab a bun, ketchup and mustard are in the cooler."

The muffin and coffe at try-outs hadn't been nearly enough for Karla. So spotting the "Free Lunch" sign, she decided to investigate.

Surprisingly enough, she found someone she knew. "Jon?"

He looked up and grinned. "Hey Karla! Want a hotdog?"

"Cool," Parker said with a grin, going to do so.

As soon as the hotdog was done, Jon offered it to her. "I'm Jon O'Neill, camp fire cook extradinaire, at your service."

"Parker," she replied, giving him a shy smile as she took the hot dog. "Hot dog eater extradinaire."

Parker looked up from eating at the new arrival. "Hi."

She paused and grimaced. No wonder it was free. "Dog?"

Though whatever he was roasting didn't look like a dog. Perhaps it was only a leg?

"Hi, I'm Karla." She walked over, hands extended at chest height, palm down. Then she snuck a sheepish look at Jon, dropped her left hand and extended her right. "Hand shakes, right. I remember." She looked back at Parker. "Jon explained the proper greeting at Fandom High. Still, three days isn't long enough to break habit."

Parker looked at the out stretched hand for a minute, then put down the small gold idol she was carrying to shake it. "Parker. What was it you were trying to do?"

"The formal greeting from my home." She raised her hands again, palm down. "I hold my hands like this, and you'd place yours under mine. And then, since we're both females, and in my home, everyone would assume you were Blood, we'd call each other 'Sister.'"

"You a newbie?" He couldn't remember seeing her on the shuttle.

Ben smiled as he found a spot to sit by the campfire. "Hey," he said. "You were in flight class just now, right?"

Jon chuckled and shook his head. "Not an actual dog, it's beef. They just call them hot dogs for some reason."

Jon grinned and offered the guy a hot dog. "That was me. I'm Jon and I remember right, you're Ben?"

Parker nodded. "Been here four whole days now. You?"

"Same. Are you adjusting to the weird or still freaking out?"

Okay, beef was something she understood. "I know the sign says 'free,' but I'll trade you something to cook it for me. Otherwise we'll probably have a second fire."

She didn't even try passing off her inability to cook as unfamiliarity with the food in question. She was just bad at it.

Parker grinned. "Cool. I like that." She put her hot dog in her mouth long enough to put her hands under Karla's as she'd explained.

Parker overheard the comment. "You fly?"

"That's me," he confirmed. "Ben Skywalker. Um, some relation to the teacher."

"I do," Ben replied, grinning. "Hi. You're new?"

"Haven't really seen much weird so far," Parker said. "Keep hearing about it though."

She nodded. "Parker. You must be old since you knew I was new."
