Behind the Dorms and Beyond, Tuesday Afternoon

Today, one of the two men in charge wasn't bothering to look the other way whenever the other strayed into his vision. Arthur, it seemed, had decided to declare himself Past That for no reason at all. "Afternoon, students," he called, "Today, there is no time to fool around. We'll be mapping the shoreline by foot, in twos and threes. If you have the means to venture out onto the water, today or this week, I ask you to do so as well. We will continue to gain oversight over the island and its structure." A pause, in which he failed to seek out Ino in the audience. "Next week, you will be facing one another in a mock battle. Bring practise weapons."

Noting that Arthur had decided to make an effort, Leto saw no reason not to do the same, and so he did acknowledge his presence, even if he didn't address Arthur directly. "And for those of you who were here last week, you are welcome to hand in the reports on strategy," he continued, then shot a glance at Arthur, to check if he had anything to add.

"For those of you who are still looking to gain some fighting skills, you can come to Leto or myself," Arthur continued, shooting Leto a glance from the corner of his eyes to see if he agreed with that, "Or find a willing teacher now, before we disperse. If you are new, you may speak up now to let us know what your skills are, so everyone will be thoroughly informed in the event of an emergency."
 

Leto gave a nod in response, but had nothing more to add. He found himself a little relieved that things were a little less tense than last week.

Arthur was here, and while in a pensive mood, not actively ignoring anyone.

Because that was for girls, clearly.

"Leto," Arthur called, when he found the time. He wasn't about to let the man run off without talking to him again. "A moment?"

"Yes?" Leto looked up, face neutral.

Cue the kind of conversation Arthur really wasn't particularly equipped for having. Or something. "I think it's probably best," he started, "If an end is put to the sulking today, for the sake of the reserves."

Listen, the fact that he wasn't directly saying that it was Leto who was sulking was meant as diplomacy.

"Sulking?" Leto let out a short laugh. "Yes, it probably is." There was a brief silence. "Does that mea there is anything else you want said, or that anything else you might won't to say won't be said?"

"I could warn you to watch out for the squirrels," Arthur said, after giving it some thought, "I won't always be there to keep them from casting aspersions on your character."

Because casting aspersions on Leto's character was what Arthur did, not the squirrels.

"And they do that frequently, do they?" Leto looked amused. "Cast aspersions on my character? And that never happens to you?"

Not that he listened to the radio.

"Last week, the notes kept referring to you as a girl," Arthur said, even though he'd been included in the description, "I don't think they've been trained right..."

Sure, they could spend the next half hour discussing their 'feelings' about the last few days (and really, pulling Romeo into this? Not right), but that really wouldn't help anything, would it.

"Funny, I wonder who they got that description from," Leto replied dryly. No, discussing their feelings wasn't a good idea.

"Most likely the pirate," Arthur said, deliberately misunderstanding Leto's point. "You know what he's like. I hope that settles it; no need to discuss anything with Lord Romeo..."

Well, okay, he did have to make that point.

Leto didn't know what the pirate was like at all.

"I didn't discuss anything with him." It had just come up in conversation. "And also, I took the liberty to invite a talented swordswoman to join the reserve, one whom you seem to have insulted in the salle." There was no accusation in his voice; more amusement.

"Ah, Lady Elspeth." Arthur was just going to ignore any insinuations about his talent at the insult. "She'll be a welcome addition." Beat. "Also, she started it. I've invited Zack as well-- he's not too bad." He fiddled with one of his gloves. "Reno left me something for you."

Now that they were back on speaking terms, even if many things were unresolved and Arthur couldn't see a reason for resolving them. Because really.

He could take the insinuations as a compliment if he wanted.

"Yes, Lady Elspeth. She's the heir of her kingdom, so I assume she is used to being treated respectfully." There was a smirk there. "I have not yet met Zack. Was he the one you fought last Sunday? And what did Reno leave?"

"I did treat her with the utmost respect, she simply had different ideas about how," Arthur returned. It wasn't his fault that she apparently took offense to being treated, well, respectfully. "Zack and I did fight last Sunday," and Arthur totally won. "But Reno left us some-- 'Blackberries'."

He reached into his pocket to find the one that wasn't his. They were a little hard to keep seperate.

"I take it they are not actual berries." He took the small object, examining it. "Do you know how it works?"

"Images start moving when you put your finger on the... square thingie," said Arthur. After the discussion with Himura, he was starting to gain confidence in his ability to explain these things. "You need to put in a number for whoever you wish to contact, and then you can contact them by putting your finger to the... square. Green image."

"And we have a number to reach Reno?" he asked, wondering if Ghani had one of these.

"We do," Arthur replied, taking out his own. At least, he hoped it was his own. He wasn't sure.

There was a full minute involved in him wrangling the thing until it went on. "Bloody thinking machines."

"I'm not sure this one is actually of the thinking kind," Leto replied. Then he shot Arthur a glance. "Dinah told me your Lady Morgana had arrived here. Will she be joining us?"

Whatever, they were machines, they did things, Leto could shove it. "I haven't invited her," he said, as the phone clicked on, "I'd rather she not run off into danger."
