Karla was nervous. Well, that wasn't much of a surprise. Karla had been nervous all day. But this was a new and different kind of nervous. Now, she was about to host a party, which she had never done, in a world that was still foreign to her, and for many girls she did not know very well. It was enough to unsettle even the strongest nerves.

Still, she though she was ready. Dinah had promised to provide her laptop for movies. Karla and Gabrielle had gone to Turtle's and purchased lots of ~~moddable~~ snacks, sodas, and lots of candy and chocolates. She'd bought make-up, since Dinah had mentioned it's importance in such matters, plenty of blankets and pillows to share, and several other sundries because she wasn't entirely certain what else would be needed, and wished to be prepared. Also, lots of booze, from her private Kaeleeran stash.

Most importantly, there was a small, neatly lettered sign on the door that said 'No Males Please.'

Well, she was as ready as she was ever going to be. "Kiss kiss," she muttered.

Ino shrugged a bit apologetically. "I doubt I'll hear anything about it--the clinic staff know there's not much we can do 'bout squirrels 'cept shut the door and 'long as that's done, well, if it happens it happens."

"Fair enough. I'm just glad they haven't mentioned the legal case I'm working on at Miss Cabot's."

"If it's on paper they tend to not get as much info," she said, thinking about that. "They'll still say things like 'and so and so passed notes in class' but they won't say what the notes are about."

"That would do it," she had to admit with a wry smile, "since I don't think I spoke about the case the whole day. I really only spoke with Griff."

Her cheeks went a bit pink there too.

How many crushes did she have? Ino wondered.

"I've met Griff," she said, "seems like an okay guy--we didn't talk all that long though. You're friends with him then?"

A swift nod.

"Yeah. He showed me his drawings. He even said he'd draw me, well, when the weather is nice enough."

She covered her cheeks with either hand.

"He even promised not to draw me blushing. Probably."

"Do you blush a lot around him?" Ino teased lightly. "If he's got to say something like that, it makes me wonder!"

"I do when he mentions drawing me," she admitted, not really minding the teasing.

"The whole idea is kind of fantastic" and she meant that in the 'fantastical' sort of way as opposed to just the positive "and he's really good."

"Are you shy?" Ino wondered. "At having people look at you, then? Even if it is a good thing?"

That was a complicated question.

"I-- sort of? I used to be really shy, but after the last few weeks, it just seemed stupid to be so afraid."

Which wasn't to say she wasn't. She just figured that if she flung herself at enough people, she'd eventually stop being so nervous. It seemed to be working; that, or people here were really nice.

"I don't mind people looking at me? Not used to it, though."

"Mmmm," Ino hummed thoughtfully. "Trial by fire then? Radio sounds like you're fairly busy."

"You don't change by standing still," she said, "and nothing is gained without working at it."

At least, nothing you could trust.

"I've screwed up a few times, but not too badly. At least, I don't think so."

"Screwing up happens to everyone." Ino stretched. "See, now that thinking? I like. There's no point in just talking 'bout something when you can go out and do it."

She flopped back onto the couch again, tugging at her emotions to properly feel the satisfaction.

Then she turned to grin just a little at Ino.

"Anything you've been going out and doing lately?"

"You mean other than abject trauma in the face of a concert and then a fight with my boyfriend 'bout my singing with another man?" Ino rolled her eyes and sighed a bit. "Getting maps copied. I did the whole island and oh fearless leader wanted copies of them all. Fussing in my garden. Training!"

Her eyebrow lifted again on the second item.

"He had a problem with you singing with another guy?"

It was obvious enough she thought that was stupid.

"I think so? I mean, he was all weird about it, and okay, it was a love song, but most duets are and that doesn't mean anything, you know? And he outright asked if I thought maybe Edward was looking for more than, you know, a song."

That? Is Fiona's 'deeply unimpressed' face. She'd used it on her mother, on her brother, and very often on her father before knowing who he was. And after, but not really anymore.

"A song is a song," she said.

"Especially if you didn't even write it."

"Exactly!" Ino waved her hands around to emphasize that. "I mean, Ichigo's my boyfriend. I like him being my boyfriend. And if I was going to do something like cheating on him, don't you think I'd have done it while he wasn't around instead of a few days after him getting back?"

"And maybe not in a publicly advertised way?"

That was the one that seemed a little more ridiculous to her.

She snickered. "That too," Ino conceded. "I don't know what he's thinking honestly."

She shook her head.

"Guys can be really silly sometimes."

Like when Griff went red for no reason at all. Honestly.
