Third Floor Common Room [Tuesday, Evening]

Effy was was actually in a common room. Again. This time, at least she was feeling less like she'd be liable to jump people. Well, no more so than she might do on a regular day, anyway. She grabbed a box of cereal from the cupboards, and dropped down on the couch. Simultaneously, the television switched on, the theme music for Search for a Sexxbomb blasting from the speakers.

Oh. Hell no. It didn't take long for her to dig the remote out from under her leg, and she stabbed at at with her finger, trying to switch it back off, or change channel of something.

Nothing. Fucking lame. Had to get stuck on the worst possible thing. Effy tilted her head watching the 'performance', if it could be called that. Might as well be screwing on stage.

... and ew.

She was tempted to walk out and leave it, but if nothing else she could make bets over when the first piece of clothing would be ripped off and estimate how many people in the front row of the audience were sporting a hard on.

[[ooc: Open, and prompt themed! 'Search for a Sexxbomb' is a fictional talent show on Skins. Like a low budget and kinda dirrrty version of Pop Idol. Also ridiculously earwormy.]]

And in figuring out something to do tonight, Valentine figured hitting up the common room.

It was the first time early twenty-first century television seemed to catch her attention enough to tilt her head, consider it, and theorize on it with a very intelligent, "...Huh."

"I already am vaguely mesmerized," Valentine had to admit, shaking her head a little to pull herself effectively away long enough to drift over to the couch, curl up, and flip open her laptop. Her attention now seemed mostly on the computer, but it was fairly evenly dispersed. "What is it, anyway?"

"Ah," Valentine nodded. "I like that. Very efficient. The chance to start not only one career path, but two."

Liir came out of his hidey hole, mostly to use the kitchen. He didn't want to be a bother, though, so he paused before entering the kitchen.

"Mind if I do a bit of baking while you're in there?"

"Probably brownies," he admitted, "though I might make some summer ice. I admit to feeling a bit nostalgic for something familiar."

He peered at the kitchen.

"Why? Hungry?"

"Would you like me to fix something for you?" he asked with a faint smile. He really didn't seem to mind the idea of doing it.

"It wouldn't be any trouble. What's something you'd like?"

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That got a laugh out of him.

"Fair enough. First one's yours then."

At which point he started puttering around in the kitchen. For all that he'd been worried about it, he was very good at being quiet. It was, in fact, one of his better skills.

"Gained?" Valentine tilted her head at Effy a little. "As opposed to chance fame? That probably sticks around."

There was a pause as she glanced back at the TV. "Besides, you've got to imagine there's only a small window time you could pull something like this off to its best."

Leda had a nice little buzz going, but her surprise on entering the room almost sobered her up.

"What the hell are you watching?"

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Did that...nonverbal communication mean what I think it probably means?" Valentine asked, confident that she'd gotten it right but figuring it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Baking definitely caught Valentine's attention.

"Will there be sharing involved with this baking?" she wondered.

"I like to cook," he said as he looked up from mixing something into softened butter.

He turned on the burners and started with the summer ice then.

"And I'm not as enthusiastic about eating."

He gave Valentine a nod and a smile.

"There's always sharing involved in baking. And if there's anything else you'd like to eat, just let me know."

[identity profile] a-demosthenes.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not picky," Valentine assured Liir. "You bake it, I'll most likely eat it and a balanced diet is overrated, best left for situations where more parents are involved."

"There's that, but sometimes we long for salty instead of sweet. Or crunchy instead of soft. All a matter of taste."

He started in on his work.

"My father was the one who liked desserts, though. Almost more than I do."
