Fourth Floor Common Room - Friday Afternoon [6/26]

Jon was hanging out in the common room today. Some video channel was playing on the television, but he wasn't really watching it. Nope, he was organizing photos on his computer. Photos taken at the fashion show.

Maybe he would consider becoming a photographer.

Sorry, no free food from him today.

Karla was bored and wandering. And lo, there was an occupied common room. And, even more lo, there was someone she even knew--and liked! "Kiss kiss," she said, sauntering into the room. "Whatcha up to, Jon?"

Jon waved, because the greeting immediately told him who it was. (And he'd be really confused if anyone else started saying it.)

"Going through the pictures from the fashion show. Sadly, I think Arthur has a future in modelling."

Karla wouldn't know whether to be pleased or pissed if her catchphrase started actually catching on.

"What do you mean?" she asked, coming to stand behind him and peer at his laptop. "Is it because all the models looked hungry and holier-than-thou?"

Jon laughed and shook his head. He pointed at one pic of Arthur. "He looks just like one of the guys on that modeling show did, and he won the challenge or something."

He may have just let it be known that he watched crappy reality television.

"...I have no idea what you're talking about. Is this some kind of Fandom duplicate-face thing?" Karla asked flatly, never having been introduced to the 'wonders' of reality TV.

A good friend would help keep her that way.

Jon was probably a very bad friend then. "No, just the guy on the show had the same angry look. I think he was pissed at the host of the show or something. He won though."

So long as he doesn't decide Karla needs to see one, all will be forgiven.

"All the models I saw looked that way," Karla said, making a face. "I think it was because they were hungry. I get really bitchy when I get hungry."

It may bear mentioning that Karla's Sapphire speeds up her metabolism, this making her burn through food much faster. On the other hand, some folks might have been able to figure that out by her last sentence alone.

Robin was in need of human contact. Well he often was, but anyway, that was why he'd found his way into the common room.

"Hi! What's on?"

"I'll show you the show later."

Jon grinned at her. "What's your excuse for all the other times?" he teased.

Jon looked at Robin and then looked at the television. "Old 'Remote Control' reruns, it looks like."

It was really sad that he knew that game show.

"I don't know that one. Maybe it's from after my time."

Jon had to ask. "When's your time?"

"The early 80's. Though, it's closer to mid 80's now I guess."

"About the right time. I think the show started in 87 or 88."

Karla gasped, and then burst out laughing. "Trying to follow in your footsteps, obviously," she said, snickering. "Bitch!"

"I am not! I'm a manly man," he insisted. No matter what anyone said.

"Of course you are," Karla soothed, smirking at him. "Does that mean you'd prefer me to refer to you as a prick or a bastard then?"

Karla was pleased. His comment had been worthy of a Warlord Prince.

Jon eyed her for a moment and then went back to clicking through pictures. "How about jerk? The first one works though, if you need to."

"Who said anything about 'need'?" Karla asked, sitting on the arm of the sofa nearest to him. "Jerk will work fine. I'm trying to find a term I can call you in amusement without giving offense. Do you have such things here? I usually get bitch or harpy. Not that I can imagine why."

She leaned over to look at the pictures. "These are pretty good," she said. All the pictures sh'd managed to take had her thumb over half of them.

"Jerk works." He wasn't touching that last bit with someone else's ten foot pole.

"Not bad for the camera I had. They would have been a lot better with a digital slr."

He was allowed to touch it (TOTALLY NOT-DIRTY); she'd been joking. If nothing else, Karla was at least self-aware.

"Is that something you do in this world?" she asked. "Call someone something to show that you are pretending to be angry, but not really so? Or am I being completely alien again?" It happened with a regular enough frequency that she was starting to become blase about it.

"And better with a what-what?" she asked, confused.

"Yeah, we're pretty messed up when it comes to social norms." At least Daniel had said so. More than once, and usually while ranting after they had been chased by people with weapons.

"It's a type of camera. Fancier, used for professional shots. Also very expensive."

"Okay then, good. When I call you a jerk, you'll know I'm not really mad, and you won't get mad at me for calling you that." Karla nodded once, decisively. It was good to have these things spelled out. People in this world rarely made sense.

"Gotcha." Hmmm...if Karla could remember the name, it would make a very nice natal day or Windsol gift for Jon. Karla was a bit fuzzy on things like 'expensive.' Money was one of the few things she'd never had to worry about. "What was it called again?"

"All right then." He was trying very hard not to laugh, because it wasn't the worst friendly name he'd ever been given.

"Here, I'll show you." He pulled up another page he had been looking at and pointed at the camera (http://www.cameratown.com/assets/news/large/Canon_RebelT1i.jpg). "That's a digital slr, or single lens-reflex camera."

"Should be starting pretty soon then." Robin said thoughtfully. "Is it any good?"
