Behind the Dorms, Tuesday Afternoon

"Good afternoon," Arthur called, once everyone had assembled. He hadn't been at his best all day - time seemed to be on the blink - but he wasn't about to let that put him off. "Today, our focus will be on the art of 'guerilla tactics'." If he pronounced the word a bit funny, it might have been because it was fairly, er, he'd read it in a book. "If we are overwhelmed by greater numbers, this could be an option. The goal is to whittle away the enemy through ambushes and traps. Mobility is the key word. Considering the woods and the closeness of the homes on this island, it shouldn't be too hard to launch a number of small guerilla--" Again with the weird pronounciation, "Attacks. We'll be planning for several of such strategies over the next few weeks. This week, traps and ambushes." He glanced at Zack.

Zack, who was grinning faintly at Arthur's treatment of the word, nodded in agreement regardless.

"What he said," he intoned. "We've got numbers who can stick to the treetops, and those of us who are just as comfortable in the streets of town. We know the island better than any invading forces might, and so it's up to use to take that knowledge and use it to our advantage. A trap can be as simple as a pitfall, covered so that nobody but us knows what it is, or it could be a matter of waiting with a weapon, out of sight, for the enemy to pass by. It's important to know which camp you're sitting in, here. Do you know your way around booby traps? Are you more inclined to spring into action on a moment's notice?"

"Using set traps will slow down our enemy," Arthur continued, fluidly, "While fluid attacks from our end will destroy morale and pick the enemy clean with time. Of course, tactics will vary depending on the environment, so we'll be mostly looking at the town today. Are there any spaces where we can dig trenches and cover them, set a tripwire, that sort of thing? Which alleys and hiding spaces does the town offer in case we need to employ such tactics? We've been spending a great deal of time getting to know our terrain. This is one way of putting this to work. How many of you know how to set a booby--" another one of those words, "Trap? Share what you know. Explosives might also be useful, if any of you remember Rikku's presentation from several months back."

"This sort of thing is where our archers and gunmen might find a chance to shine," Zack noted. "Firing from rooftops, or treetops, or hidden in bushes. I admit to not being a gunman myself, and so some of you might be able to set the record straight on the matter, but your job probably works more smoothly when you don't have a target rushing at you in the first place." He gave his arms a casual sort of stretch, and then set his hands on his hips, grinning. "So, guys! Today, you're going to figure out which camp you're in. Are you the ones setting the traps, or the ones sitting in wait and then springing them? Talk to one another, sort that much out, and then figure out what in town you can use to your advantage, guys."

Arthur was there, not so much grinning as looking a little thoughtful.

General Emotional Meltdown did that to a man.

Fiona was there again, for various reasons, not the least of which being that she still felt that something was wrong. The reserves, then, seemed the place to be.
intraspective: (ah ha I have an idea!)

Ino was here, naturally, and ignoring the dull headache keeping her mental walls up so high was slowly giving her. Better the headache than the feeling of something weird.

When she heard the point of today's meeting, she smirked.

"Ninja tactics pretty much are guerrilla tactics," she said with a shrug.

Yes, Ino was aware that didn't fully answer the question. Tough. She'd wait 'till she got a partner, thanks.

It was a pretty subdued Layla that approached Zack. "Hey. You got a second?"

"I think something is wrong," Layla said with a frown. "With... I don't know what but something isn't right."

Fiona wondered if anyone would be interested in using something like Greek fire.

Fiona decided she'd best get going. There were at least a couple of people who wouldn't want to see her and she could be more useful out on the town.

"It happened last night," Layla replied as she rubbed her arm. "Something... I don't know. Things got fuzzy. Karla said something strange was happening as well. Usually I know what is going to happen to who but now everything is off-kilter. The last time this happened? It wasn't good."

Dinah was here, trying not to giggle at Arthur's pronunciations.

She shook her head. "Haven't told him. I freak him out a bit."

Then again she generally freaked out people.

Layla frowned. "Zack, the last time this happened I got attacked and almost drowned. The rest of my team ended up getting attacked and almost froze to death. And if Karla thinks something is going down too..."

She stopped and sighed. "Okay, fine, it's just a feeling."
