Third Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening

Kate was hogging one of the sofas in the common room. The coffee table in front of her was stacked with assorted sign-making and craft supplies, including several containers of glitter.

She also had her laptop open, and was looking at a site with instructions for planning a luau.

She looked very tired, but she was in a good mood, and she had finally moved on from coffee to Coke.

Joan came in carrying a few pizza boxes.

"Hey! Ready to get some planning done?"

"Hey," Kate greeted her back with a little wave, looking up from the computer. "As ready as I'll ever be."

"Excellent," Joan said, putting the pizza boxes down on the counter. "I got an assortment cause I wasn't sure what you liked. Plus food generally draws people in."

"I'll eat pretty much any pizza," Kate said with a little grin. "And food really does tend to lure people in, which is exactly where we want them."

"Precisely," Joan said.

She bustled around the kitchen for a few minutes, finding paper plates, napkins and cups for soda. After fixing a plate for herself, she wandered over to Kate.

"You brought the glitter!"

"Of course I brought the glitter! What kind of a person do you think I am?" Kate asked with mock-outrage. "I know I look tired, but I'm not tired enough to forget glitter."

Joan laughed. "Go get some pizza and then we can get down to planning."

Joan didn't have to tell her twice. "Mmm, pizza."

Kate got up and went to the kitchen area, got herself a plate and a slice and everything else, and was back on the sofa in no time.

"I've been looking at inspiring stuff," she said, pointing at her computer on the table.

"Oooh," Joan leaned over to look at Kate's screen. "Awesome. We should hit up that party supply store in town for decoractions."

"Definitely," Kate nodded. "Do you think they'll have grass skirts there?"

Joan shrugged. "No idea. Can't hurt to check though. And if not, we can probably order them from online and get them in time."

"Yeah, it's probably best to just take a list with us to the store in town, and then make an online order for everything they don't have," Kate agreed, and munched thoughtfully at her slice of pizza.

"How all-out do we want to go with this?"

"I don't know," Joan said. "I guess we don't want to spend a fortune on it, but we should stick with theme food and maybe plan a few activities."

"You work at the flower shop, right? Do you think you could get us a discount on some appropriate flowers for decorations? Because with proper theme decorations, food and some activities we can really get a good theme party going cheap enough."

"Yeah, I get a discount," Joan said. "I can stop by tomorrow and pick out some stuff that fits."

"Yay, that makes it all the more luau-y. Which is weird to say," Kate giggled.

"Oh man. Too much coffee, not enough sleep."

"You should probably get some rest before Saturday then," Joan joked. "Cause I doubt we'll be sleeping much!"

"I will try my best, and if I fail... Well, then it's time for even more coffee on Saturday," Kate grinned.

Joan laughed. "Okay, so, I'll work on flowers tomorrow. Want me to handle other decorations too? And you can focus on food?"

"If it's food I can get from somewhere ready-made, or can get someone else to make, or – and this is the most unlikely - actually something I can make myself, then yes, I can handle the food."

"Maybe Liir can help you with food prep," Joan suggested. "Or if you buy the ingredients, I would be willing to help make stuff."

"Yes, the resident cooking expert will definitely be drafted in to help," Kate nodded. "I'll see what the food are, first, and then decide how we're getting them."

"We should go with traditional Hawaiian stuff, obviously," Joan said, looking over Kate's shoulder to the laptop again.

"There's some recipes here," Kate said, clicking a link.

"That Oven Kalua Pig doesn't look too tricky. It takes a lot of time, though, but it's a Saturday, so that doesn't really matter," she said after looking over the recipes.

"Oooh, that does look good," Joan agreed. "And I definitely like the idea of having tropical fruit."
