There was no unusual food this time around if people worried about being attacked by pudding.

...even if pudding is delicious.

Merlin did have a few random saucers of milk spread out in case more scary little blue men arrived to steal undergarments. Or insult people in a completely un-understandable accent.

"Hello everyone! Today we'll be discussing something a bit more pertinent to the reason why this group was formed," Merlin said. "Experience in battle. Who has it and who--er--doesn't."

Very concise, right?

Karla was a little more somber today, as befitting their choice of topic, but she still had to shoot Merlin an amused look at that. "Not everyone here is a fighter. Some people's powers aren't particularly suited for combat and some people's temperaments aren't, either. Neither of those are bad things, and there will be plenty of non-fighting things to do invasion. We'll talk about those another week. But, for today, combat. How can your powers be used in a combat situation? Have you ever had to do so?"

"Even if you don't think you have any fighting powers, think if there's anything you can do that would work as a distraction long enough for someone else to attack or for you to get away," Tony said. "I mean, soap bubbles kinda suck as a weapon, but if you throw them down on a slick surface, you could make the enemy lose their footing."

Merlin nodded at that. "So please share--if you want to--any sort of experience or abilities you are willing to help others learn in case we're attacked."

There's lots of food around for the snacking: coffee, teas, patries, and sandwiches made by Priestly!

Are your powers combat-oriented? Have you ever had to use them in a combat situation? Can they be adapted to combat, even if they don't seem to be combat-oriented at first glance.

Raven was there, helping herself to tea. Mmm, tea.

Karla is there, eating food and keeping a wary eye out for any underwear-stealing Smurfs. They were creepy.

"I was raised a pacifist," Raven said quietly, "though I have become uncertain as to how to hold that philosophy when it would mean myself and others would be harmed. For that reason I am have decided to try to become more accustomed to physical violence. My primary gifts of healing and empathy should not be used offensively." Not could not. Should not. No matter how tempting the memory of the Other Fandom was at times. "My Soul-Self, however, can act as a shield and deflect an attack, or absorb it and direct it elsewhere. I might also be able to incapacitate a foe with it, though I have never tried."

Well, Arthur had experience in battle. Just not magical experience. However, considering that this was actually a subject of great interest to him, he was a little closer to the front than usual.

Tara took a cup of tea and gave the milk a curious look. she'd heard the idea, it just seemed a little old-wivesish to her.

"In theory I could learn to throw bolts of energy," Tara offered. "It's way over wh-what I can do now but I've read the spell. Oh, and, uh, telekinesis. If I worked with somebody else I could throw heavy things at whatever was attacking."

This was ... actually a long speech, for Tara, and she flushed when she finished making it.

Tony hadn't spotted any underwear-stealing smurfs yet. Maybe they only wanted the girlie stuff?

"Would it do permanent damage or just knock someone out?" Tony asked. "It might be a good thing to practice."

Raven frowned a little as she considered. "I would prefer it merely take away their feelings of aggression or desire to do harm," she said. "Using it to cause damage to the body or mind would put me on a road I do not wish to walk."

"You can do that? Take away their aggression?"

"Yes," Raven said, nodding. "I can ease all manner of emotional suffering. I can take fear or anger or hatred into myself and calm someone."

Call it a persistent case of inexplicable curiosity, but Kennedy was hanging around again this week. The bowls of milk got a weird glance from her, because she hadn't yet made it down to the weapons locker today to find her favorite knife missing. When she discovered that, she was gonna be pissed.

Combat magic? That sounded pretty cool, she had to admit. She'd just have to check out how it looked in action. She still thought getting down and dirty the old-fashioned (not-as-old fashioned?) way was much more fun, but hey, if that was their thing.

"Wow," Tony said. "Okay, yeah, that could be really useful in a fight. But what if you're being attacked by something that isn't human?"

"I've used Craft is several combat situations now," Karla said quietly. "Some in the other world, some in class, and once before I arrived at Fandom."

She seemed pretty focused on shredding her pastry into tiny strips.

"I can shield, fling energy bolts or lighting, pass through objects like they aren't even there, through stuff around with Craft, use phantom hands to harm another, poison someone with my serpent's tooth, vanish discarded weapons to deny my opponent a weapon, become invisible, attack from above with flying or airwalking..." Karla actually had a really long list of combat techniques she could use. And that wasn't even getting into what she could do with webs and a bit of advanced planning.

"Even animals have emotions," Raven said. "They do not need to be human for me to use my gifts."

"I don't think zombies have emotions," Tony said. "And what if they're robots or aliens or giant insects?"

"Robots are artificial creatures, I do not think I could affect them," Raven said. "But even most those from other worlds have emotions. I do not know about zombies or insects. If they are driven by a hunger, I could perhaps remove that need from them."

Tony nodded. "It's a good idea, but you might want to consider other options, in case that doesn't work. I know hurting people sucks, but what if it's that or the death of someone you care about?"

"I do not know," Raven said, shaking her head. "Violence sickens me. And using my gifts to cause harm rather than heal would be wrong."

"What if more harm would be done by you not using your powers?" Tony asked.

"You do not understand," Raven said softly, looking at the ground. "If I use my powers in that way, I could very easily lose control and harm those around me." And worse than that, not care that she was, like she had with Anakin. She shot a glance over at Karla, sending a silent plea for help. She didn't think Tony was trying to provoke her or anything like that, but he was pushing for answers she wasn't comfortable giving.
