"Dodging," Arthur started, as soon as all had assembled, "Is a fine art in and of itself. When you lose your weapon, you may not be able to replace it. And even if you do have it, it might be useful to avoid being struck in the face." He paused briefly, grinning once. "But ask Zack about that. Today, we will be practicing that skill: it's a basic fighting technique, but there's no reason we shouldn't be brushing up on it."

Zack did his best to look indignant, but mostly he just came off as 'playfully pouty.' It was entirely possible that the muscles in his face had forgotten how to look indignant years ago.

"We're not going to do full-out sparring today, because there are so many different skill levels here, and we don't have a means of pairing you off the same way that Fight Club has. But we are going to pair you off anyhow. One of you will be our designated hitter, and please, don't use any powers, or super strength, or anything like that until your partner confirms that it's alright. The other one will dodge. Don't get hit, guys. It's not really all that fun. Throw a few hits, dodge a few hits, and swap off every five minutes." He swayed on his heels for a moment, and then added. "If anyone ends up hurt, then stop. If the injury is serious, let us know right away so that I can give you a healing potion or so we can get your butt to the clinic post-haste."

"Above all, share what you know," Arthur finished. "If someone conducts a particularly ambitious swerve, ask how, and attempt to repeat it. Remember to keep your distance, to watch your opponent's movements, and not to lose control of your own. I believe that's everything; grab a partner, and get to work."

As usual, Zack has supplied cookies. It's entirely possible that he's learned that they're what might just be keeping some people's attendance up week-to-week, yes!

Pair off and try to smack one another around!

Remember, if anyone gets hurt, stop. We're not here to pummel one another into the dirt, we're here to make sure that exactly the opposite happens.

When they tag in, naturally.

Zack was there, and he had a supply of potions and his cell phone on-hand, just in case any injuries happened.

He was also keeping an eagle-eye out today in order to try to prevent injuries from happening in the first place. People getting hurt on his watch would make for a very sad puppy.

Ah, it's times like these that I miss my old TKD classes. *kicks air*

Arthur was there, rolling his eyes a bit about the cookies once more (sigh) but otherwise available. And watchful.

No black eyes to be had here on his watch.

Turtle ~~'s mun had gotten a chance to ping her in~~ had actually managed to make it today, and she'd recovered enough from the closet incident to be bouncing for it. Even if it would figure that the topic of the day was something she already knew how to do.

Azula crossed her arms. She was frowning.

On the positive side, at least there was a physical activity. On the other the reserves didn't resemble any military she was familiar with. Unless this world's military never did anything but sit around and talk.

Azula stood there, arms clasped behind her back. If she looked bored it was because she was but it didn't mean she couldn't snap into swift action if she wanted to.

Oh goody.

Yeah.

That'd be Ino totally sulking about the lack of actual hitting people. She got that training was good for, like, the beginners. But--not a beginner here.

Leto was here too ~~although the mun has very limited availability~~, and would answer questions should anyone have them.

Turtle was definitely up for working on her dodges ~~for great SP goodness~~, even if she was a little reluctant to give people the chance to learn how to better dodge her shin kicks.

After all the kicking and fighting and dodging was dying down toward the end of the meeting, Turtle spared a few moments before heading over for YA to go apologize to Zack.

"So, uh....," she started a little sheepishly, "closet thing. Sorry about that."

Fiona was there after work, as per usual, and in a relatively good mood. Dodging sounded like fun, really. And she knew the importance first hand.

"Want to pair up?" she asked the other girl, since they seemed to have a good spar the other day.

Zack offered Turtle a little grin. Hey, he wasn't going to stay upset at a cute girl for long! He didn't have it in him to hold a grudge.

"Don't worry about it. It happens around here, right?" He rubbed the back of his neck, looking upward thoughtfully. "And, I mean, at least you did manage to come out of the closet again, so it isn't like there's any reason to be upset about it."

... Stop and think about what you just said, there, Zack.

Fiona had ironed things out with Griff, was talking to people regularly again, and felt as if she was starting to get a handle on her temper.

...she didn't have the first clue what to do about Arthur, though, and if she was entirely honest with herself (which, granted, was rare but it happened) she'd sort of, well, sort of, that is,

She wouldn't admit it if you strapped her down and tried to feed her chocolate, but it was true all the same.

That was why, still somewhat awkward, she made her way over to him after reserves.

"Hello."

Lame.

Kennedy was hanging around to the side, nibbling diffidently on a cookie and pretending not to look like she'd gotten her ass handed to her but good at Fight Club.

See her all the way across the group from Azula? Yeah.

Yeah, dodging? Still not one of Kennedy's better skills. Ten years and you'd think she'd be better at it, but she still left herself open to a lot of attacks in her enthusiasm to get her own hits in.

Didn't stop her from looking a little sulky about the exercise; she kind of hated having her weak spots highlighted in public. On the other hand, it didn't stop her from wanting to practice, either. She'd probably be a ~~little~~ lot bratty about it, but she was willing to learn.

...or not, depending on whether the attitude of whoever she ended up working with clashed with hers

"Why not?" Azula answered. "Which would you prefer? Dodge or hit?"

Firekeeper was nibbling on a cookie as she listened. Blind Seer was ignoring the cookies, but listening all the same.

Triela was finding it useful to think of the Reserves as a series of team-building exercises rather than as planning sessions to protect the island if they needed to. Team-building was important, too, because if they did have to fight it would be good if they could fight in coordinated groups.

But there was a subdued scowl on her face nonetheless. Because Triela wasn't much of a team player.

Triela was here, so she might as well participate. And she wasn't sure she'd met... whoever it was she looking at. So it would be efficient to do both at once.

"Hi," she waved. "I don't think we've met."

"I'm good with either. Whichever you'd prefer."

She didn't particularly like one way or the other.

Dinah was looking around, hoping to see someone to dodge and hit. Or hit and dodge. Or end up chasing around the reserves, that was fun too.
