Third floor common room [Wednesday afternoon]

Once he'd encountered a few people and figured out what was going on, Jaime had almost locked himself in his room. Not because he wasn't used to weird stuff, but because he wasn't used to being more off-balance than the Scarab. Usually he was calm and collected and the Scarab flipped out an told him to blow things up.

Not that the Scarab wasn't flipping out and telling him to blow things up, it was just that the Scarab was apparently unimpressed by the fact that a lot of girls were now boys. Which was not supposed to happen. So Jaime found himself in a weird position where he was confused and unstable while the Scarab just kept on business-as-usual.

And there was only one thing Jaime knew of that would help stabilize him at a time like this... Home cooking. And while he didn't have his mom around to do it, he did have a phone and could follow a recipe.

Which explained the rich smell of beef and peppers and mole sauce wafting through the common room. Jaime felt himself relaxing already.

"Roomie! You're cooking," Didi said as she wandered in. "Favorite person."

If the nickname hadn't let Jaime know who she was, the dark hair, black shirt, and ankh should have helped.

Jaime managed, barely not to double-take. "You too, huh?" he asked with a snort. "Just when I was starting to get used to rooming with a girl, too."

He waved at the skillet he was currently watching. "You want some?"

"People say it wears off," Didi told him. "So don't get too used to this. Thank God."

She liked being a girl, okay?

She padded over to stand next to him. "Sure. What is it?"

"All I know is that I'm glad nothing happened to me," Jaime grinned cheekily. And, that was good news. He liked her being a girl, too!

"Well, I was going to make fajitas, but then I realized I wanted some mole sauce, so..." he shrugged helplessly. "Beef and onions and peppers and mole sauce, I guess."

"Awesome. I bet there are some tortillas in the fridge," Didi said hopefully as she went to poke around in it. "I forget, do you have classes today?"

"No. And I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I sort of think the distraction might be useful, but then I'd run into more people..."

Jaime Reyes was not freaking out, but he was kind of close to it.

"... and then you'd freak out and start talking to yourself?" Didi suggested, as she surfaced with a packet of corn tortillas. "No offense."

Judging by the way Jaime laughed at that, no offense was taken.

"It's always possible," Jaime admitted. "Though... I'm getting pretty good at not doing that these days."

"You are," Didi had to admit. "But if you gave it up, I'd have to find something new to tease you about."

She was a big sister. Teasing came with the package.

"In that case I'm going to have to keep it up even if I have to fake it. I shudder to think of what you'd focus on if you had to switch targets."

Jaime even threw in a theatrical shudder to drive that home.

"Probably your skinny legs," Didi said, flashing a smile. "I still haven't gotten you into a kilt to show off their full glory."

... she was kind of flirting with her (mortal) roommate while she was a boy. This was weird on levels even Death had problems with.

"And never will," Jaime insisted. "Besides, it's horribly wrong of you to even be thinking about it when your awesome roommate is feeding you. For shame."

Ellie was on he way back to her room after class to hide for the rest of the day. She made a detour to the common room that wasn't even on her floor instead when she caught the scent of something cooking. "Smells good in here."

"So you don't want me to think about your legs," Didi said, mock-thoughtfully and mostly to fluster him. "Good to know. But thank you for feeding me."

Jennifer, being one of the only girls that didn't transform this day, wandered into the common room.

"Whatever that is, I like the smell."

"You're still a girl," Ellie said, stating the obvious. She gave a little wave.

"Am I not supposed to be?" Jennifer said, confused. But hey, cute boy. She returned the wave.

"Guess you haven't noticed the unusual amount of boys wandering around today, huh?" Ellie asked, somewhat amused.

"I haven't," Jennifer said. "What's going on?"

"A lot of girls seem to be guys today," Ellie explained. "Only on this island."

"And I'm one of the only girls left?" Jen said. "Lucky me."

"Because you get to be surrounded by extra hot guys?" Ellie chuckled.

"Exactly," Jennifer said. "It's a win win situation for me."

"For me, too," Ellie giggled, which might have sounded a bit odd, considering her current state. "I'm still looking, you know."

She was not about to let being a boy prevent that.

Didi had rather good aim for that sort of thing, at least if Jaime's flush was anything to go by. "Hey, if you can't count on your roommate to feed you a random assortment of Mexican food when you're in the body of the wrong gender, who can you count on?"
