The Roof, Monday Afternoon

Raven found autumn fascinating. Azarath didn't have seasons; therefore the changing colors of the leaves was truly a new experience. So after class she headed up to her favorite spot on the roof and sat cross-legged in the sunlight, eyes closed as she sent her Soul-Self soaring over the Preserve. While her Soul-Self soaked in the reds and golds and oranges of the trees, she thought about Lady Ghanima's class and how she had said to spend the rest of the day contemplating being a better person. Her checklist was slightly different than the rituals they'd discussed that morning. Pay attention in class and please her teachers. Use her gifts to help any who needed healing. Stop occasionally wanting to kill Max, and heal the damage that was done in the other Fandom. Not become her father's servant and help him open gateways to other worlds so they could be conquered or laid waste.

Yeah, that last one was a big one.

[I am desperately trying NOT to fall asleep at work, so Raven is highly interruptable. :) ]

"Oh, hi Raven," Hayley said, stepping out onto the roof. She already had a cigarette in her lips, and had a matchbook in her hands. "Nice day for the roof, huh?"

Hayley paused, and held up her cigarette. "That's what the filters are for," she said.

Oh, the sixties.

"...but why would they still sell them if they were dangerous?" Hayley said.

It was this sort of thinking that led to Hayley's Nicotics addiction.

"...It doesn't seem like a good joke," Hayley said.

Hayley frowned, not sure what to think.

"Somebody oughta teach them a lesson," she said.

"Bet they don't even smoke," Hayley said. "I ever find out who does this, the joke's gonna be on them." She spoke with an odd conviction.

"Just don't like people lyin' to me," Hayley said, mellowing back to her normal, bubble-headed demeanor. "Just no fun, you know?"

Hayley stared at her cigarette intently. "Seems a shame. They're so fun, ya know?"

The roof was an acceptable place to spend an evening; Illyria hadn't tried visiting during the day before. She wasn't expecting to find it already occupied when she pushed open the door and stalked out.

Still, there was worse company she could imagine. "Raven." She bowed to this 'socialization' thing and gave the half-demon a nod.

"Not even?" Hayley said. "Well gee, how do you know about it, then?"

Mat had not had a class to tell him to try to be a better person today, which was probably a good thing, as he would've completely blown off that particular assignment.

Tired of staring at the walls of his room, he'd decided instead to stare down at the school grounds.

"Hello," he said, grinning when he discovered that he'd have company instead.

"Oh," Hayley said. She paused again, to stare at the cigarette. "Hardly seems like it could hurt you."

Illyria stepped to the edge of the roof and looked out over the island, and beyond it, the sea. "It seems smaller in the light."
