"Today," Arthur said, scraping his throat with all the repressed joy any British royal with a stick up their ass could manage upon being reunited with their army, "We will be returning to a very basic element of our strategy. Which is being able to anticipate on what your fellow soldier will do. To that effect, we are going to guide you through a few very simple hand-to-hand drills, to be executed by you all as a group. Please take a good look to your left and right to see who is closest, so you can keep an eye on their step."

Zack nodded, his arms crossed over his chest as he surveyed the group.

"Basically, we're telling you where to go and how to get there, and it's up to you guys to keep in time with the rest and make this work." A pause. "And if you don't, I guess we'll have to poke at you until your form improves."

"Or smack you 'round the ears with a beach umbrella," Arthur added, letting a bit more glee shine through. "Anyway, you should all know how it goes-- so please follow Zack and I as we demonstrate both a basic attack and a basic defensive drill. Mind your footwork."

Really not getting why they had to do this as a group, though. Unsurprisingly. Why were they watching each other's step and all that?

Zack was there, and it was entirely possible that he'd smuggled exactly 99 cookies to the meeting in little ziploc baggies in his very, very deep pockets.

And he'd share, too, if you asked him while Arthur wasn't looking!

Ino perched up in a tree, on a low hanging branch, and contemplated the lesson.

It sounded, really, a lot more like Centurion's infantry class than anything else. Extra practice was nice?

Especially without the running with the weights. Ugh.

It's probably better for all concerned that Illyria was unaware of Zack's hidden cookies not dirty that's what the swords are for. She'd only have tried eating the plastic bags too.

She was here, though 'mingling' would be a completely incorrect description.

Firekeeper was here, as was Blind Seer. The former... had a vaguely unsettled look about her, and every so often would glance around as if she expected someone to suddenly appear.

Perhaps because that was exactly what she did expect.

Ah, footwork -- Tahiri's old nemesis. Okay, not nemesis exactly, but she was considering this the Force's way of reminding her that she needed to do more footwork practice before Corran gave her grief about it next time she saw him.

The drill was familiar in concept, though.

Yuffie had done this lots of time. Usually following meant they ended up nearly getting killed every. single. time.

Just once, couldn't someone lead her groups into a cave full of materia, free for the taking?

Gabrielle's disappointment at the lack of cookies did not translate into a lack of enthusiasm at the prospect of the drill. She was a bit uneasy about the whole army aspect of it, but it wasn't as if they were expecting her to finish up the drill and then immediately march out onto the battlefield or anything. Even if she did look damned good in Roman leather armor, thank you very much.

Ben memorized the steps quickly, figuring that the purpose of the exercise was unit cohesion and not, say, an armed and kind of silly looking dance troupe.

Triela scowled. There hadn't been an invasion yet, as far as she knew, that would benefit from rigid coordination like this.

Though, in all honesty, Triela had a hard time seeing why she should coordinate this closely with anyone. But she was there. And she'd play along.

That said, cookies did get crunched. Oops.

"Grrrr," Zack echoed, though he was pretty much laughing as he said it. Why? Because he pulled a bag of cookie crumbs from his pocket and held it up to inspect. Oops? "But you only ever have good things to say about them. I think I would have liked to have gotten the chance to meet them, you know? And it would have been awesome to introduce Angeal around, too. Maybe another time, I guess."
