Third Floor Common Room / January 16 / Morning

Azula with her left cheek stinging woke to the cold. It was cold and dark and when she attempted to open the light fixtures no light came on. Azula went out to investigate. The outside world was blanketed in snow, she moved to the common room and found a fireplace. A surprise since there was none before. There was, Azula concluded, no use questioning it. The island turned her into a man, providing a fireplace was nothing to its incomprehensible magic.

She walked to the fireplace and with a flick of her hand ignited the logs.

The fire burned blue until she was satisfied the room was as warm as she wanted. Azula smirked, perfect. She released the fire and the blue flames faded into the normal weak orange color.

She prepared tea and after steeping the tea Azula sat down and drank. She could tell this was going to be a strange day.

Chuck would agree. Strange, strange day. Normally, he really wouldn't be up this early on a weekend, but it was freezing, and something like that would wake anyone. Even sent him in search of other people to share this with, except... It wasn't freezing in here.

"Heat!" Very astute, Chuck.

Liir had figured out the moment he woke up in his room that something was different. The room had been cold, dark...

It had felt almost like home, as pathetic as that sounded.

A quick look out his window had confirmed his suspicions and taking Makejoy for her walk had cinched things thoroughly: they were once more in the midst of a 'blackout' and the fireplaces were back. He couldn't say he was happy about this turn of events, as there was a certain amount of ease that the modern conveniences he'd grown used to provided, but he wasn't nearly as dismayed as he could have been. Instead, he was thankful that his small store of water would prove useful and, Makejoy padding behind him, he decided to be just the same upon returning.

That was why he brought out a few supplies and started preparing pancakes over the fire. It might look as if he'd be burned, but the trick to reaching into a fire was one of the first little bits of magic Glinda had taught him. That didn't mean it didn't look odd.

As he didn't much know Azula, he gave her a nod and a faint smile before holding up the first pan of food.

"Would you care for some breakfast?"

"... Was there a fireplace there before?" Pretty sure he hadn't been imagining it's absence, but-- Worth checking.

"Oh." Chuck looked again, trying to discern if he had actually just been confused. "It just--" So trusting, and always of the people he probably shouldn't be. "Maybe you're right."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
He shrugged.

"Not sure if I do it to the fire or to me," he admitted, hand cheerfully sticking right in the flames to finish off the pancakes and bacon.

The magic Glinda had taught him worked differently from what he'd learned on his own, but he seemed to be able to do both and so he didn't think on it too hard. Well, no more hard than he thought on anything.

"Could you bring a plate over? I forgot that one small detail."

"Yeah uh, that'd be nice," he decided, shooting her a bit of a grin. "Azula, right?" Putting the 'princess' in front of it had definitely made it memorable for him.

...if he ever thought anyone took anything he said as anything more than a request, Liir would probably fall over laughing.

"Magic," he answered, taking the plate and sliding the pancakes into a neat little pile. No eggs; he was only using one pan and they had a terrible tendency to slide around.

"There's syrup in the pantry over to the right there, if you'd like some. I made them with a touch of sweetness, though, so best taste before you add anything."

"Chuck." Well, she was almost there! "So, you know, couple different letters, are-- Yeah."

"You don't seem to be taking the whole, no power, thing too badly," he noted.

"Food as well," said a boy near the fire who... probably should have second degree burns on his hands considering the fact that he was holding a pan of hotcakes and bacon right in the fire, but magic was useful like that.

"Would you like some breakfast?"

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
He turned from her and considered the flames.

"I suppose so. I might be able to do more, but I've never done much with fire. My... education on the matter has been in any number of pieces and most of them jumbled up. It's useful enough, though."

He was terribly tempted. Terribly, really terribly tempted. He wasn't sure if he should, because the title seemed as if it shouldn't belong to him. Not because he wasn't Fiyero's son but because no one like him should ever have the perfectly legitimate right to call themself a prince.

But she'd been here a while, he'd seen her, and she was still putting it to her name. He settled on a compromise between what felt utterly ridiculous and the slight irritation he always felt in situations like this.

"Prince Liir, by all technicality, and Eminent Thropp. There's not a soul here who calls me by any of that, though, so Liir serves."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That eased some of the starch that'd started going up his spine about titles.

"A pleasure, Azula. A shame we haven't really spoken before now. I don't get out much, I admit."

Karla came in, accompanied by a small flotilla of floating globes of witchlight. "Kiss kiss!" she called, poking her head in. "Oh, it's lovely warm in here--" she started, before catching a glimpse of Azula.

Immediately, her eyes narrowed. "You," she said, pointing. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"

He perked up visibly at the offer.

"I would, yes. Let me just get a plate for myself and a bit of bacon done up for Makejoy, and I'd appreciate it quite a bit. Thank you."

The dog padded over to investigate her then, a massive black Newfoundland with a sweet demeanor.
