Third floor common room, Friday afternoon

Claudia was slouched on the couch with some show about random stuff at the Smithsonian on as background noise as she sifted through her notes from her classes, so far. She was less of a mind to review what she was supposed to be learning than to figure out which teacher to approach for a pass into the library's special collections. There was a small voice in the back of her head reminding her that Joshua probably wouldn't see it as fulfilling his legacy if she got eaten by carnivorous books, but that was easily ignorable.

She was not so intent that she didn't spot the small fuzzy thing walking across the common room, though. She watched it for a long moment, tilting her head curiously.

"What are you supposed to be? Some kind of lemur?"

"I think monkeys have longer arms," Kurt observed, poking his head in. "That little guy's just CUTE!"

"But it's got the big ole crazy eyes going on," Claudia pointed out. The fuzzy thing lowered its ears at her. Claudia tilted her head the other way, then smiled at Kurt. "Hey, Kurt. How's it going?"

"Hey," Jacob greeted, he thought he'd heard her there. He stopped at the funny looking thing she had with her. "You picking up strays now?"

Kurt shrugged. "Okay, I guess. Still upset about class yesterday."

"I was just sitting here, minding my own business. The fuzzy thing just showed up." Claudia poked herself in the lower lip with the end of her pen. "D'you suppose it's a gremlin?" The fuzzy thing looked quite put out at the very implication. "It doesn't look very dangerous."

"Aren't they supposed to be more critter like?" he asked. Whatever was critter like, he moved further in the room. "Did it try to bite?"

"The one about weaseling out of trouble?"

"I don't know. No one's ever really gotten around to describing 'em." She shrugged. "So far it's mostly just given me sad eyes."

Worf had come into the common room in order to check on his stash of prune juice when he spotted the furry... Thing making cute noises.

"What is that?" he demanded to know.

"It could be trying to lure you into a false sense of security," he squatted down beside the thing. "Those ears are kind of freaky."

Well, wasn't this guy Mr. Growly-pants. "Don't know yet. It's sort of vaguely primate-ish." She looked up. "Woah. That is one heck of a forehead."

Very nice, Claudia. Very sensitive.

"They're kind of bat-wingy." Claudia studied the creature for another moment. "I dare you to touch it."

"Ja. ...Well, no. It was the people IN the class... I mean..." Kurt sighed. He went over to the cupboard, got out a bag of popcorn, and tossed it in the microwave. "The tall kid? The really tall kid? Was rude to Jonothan."

"Thank you," Worf replied gruffly and pointed again at the... thing. "We should remove this creature from the premises immediately."

Unbeknown to Worf, another creature was now behind him imitating his manner with the arm movements and cute little noises while it pretended to be gruff.

He glanced up at her, raised an eyebrow and then shrugged his shoulders. If it bit him, he'd just heal. "Sure, sure," he said, reaching out a hand first, like he would with a dog. What? Most animals liked to sniff you first, so it seemed polite.

"You lost, little guy?" he asked it as it seemed to be regarding Jacob's hand. No sniffing, but Jacob proceeded and scratched the creature on the head.

Really tall -- "You mean Jacob?" That didn't sound right. He was such a nice guy -- to her, anyway. "I haven't met Jonothan, yet. What'd he do?"

Yeah, Claudia had been a bit too involved going back and forth with Karla yet again to notice that much what the other students were doing.

Claudia braced herself for . . . well, okay, she had no idea what for. It wasn't like she had anything useful on hand to beat a small furry creature off her friend if it bit him.

But it seemed to mostly just be kinda curious and friendly.

"Okay, so I'm gonna go with not a gremlin, then."

Okay, that was just about the cutest thing Claudia had ever seen. She tried very hard not to laugh out loud in the face of Mr. Growly-pants.

"I dunno," she said. "What if it's a student?"

"Doubtful," Worf said crossing his arms. "They are no doubt vermin and need to be eradicated."

The creature of course mimicked the Klingon by crossing his arms and someone even to squeak out something close to "eradicated".

"Unless I smell off to him and he just doesn't think I'm all that tasty," Jacob said with a grin. "Wanna try?"

"They seem pretty intelligent for common vermin," Claudia said. "Maybe they work with the radio squirrels."

She was mostly trying to get the dude to keep talking, now. Because this was one of the most entertaining things she'd seen this week.

Possibly not without rubber gloves. Still, it'd do her no good to look like some kind of prissy girl afraid of small furry things. She leaned forward on the couch, slowly extending her hand. "If it bites me and I do something stupid? I'm totally holding you accountable."

"I... don't know, exactly," Kurt admitted. "But it had to do with the way Jonothan talks -- you know, the whole telepathy thing. Some people get freaked out at that."

"If it bites you I'll make sure you don't do anything stupid enough to get you a nickname for the rest of the school year," he promised.

Worf shook his head firmly which of course the creature did all the while trying to maintain Worf's stern expression.

"No! They resemble a parasitic creature from my world known as the tribbles and-"

The creature had been squeaking along imitating Worf but his volume had gotten a bit too loud. Worf turned to look at the thing only to realize that it was imitating him.

"Stop that," Worf growled.

The creature of course growled back something that sounded close to "Stop that."

"This is not acceptable," Worf snapped at the creature.

And the creature of course copied back almost exactly what Worf said and imitated his posture.

This might go on for a while.
