The Danger Shop, Wednesday Afternoon (After Classes)

It was hard to say what the members of the Magic Reserve were expecting when they received their handwavey messages telling them to meet in the Danger Shop today, but it probably wasn't the assorted grunts and curses (of the profane, unmagical variety) streaming out from behind the room's control panel.

Karla stuck her head up, looking for the display. "Stupid, bloody, confounded piece of Darkness-bedamned--oh, hi people!" Leaning down, she hissed, "Guys? Guys! They're here!"

And then looked back at everyone else, wearing a cheerful smile that suggested they couldn't possibly have heard her swearing a blue streak just a moment before. "Glad to see you all got our message. Umm, welcome to the Danger Shop. Sorry there's no food, but the rules are pretty strict."

Merlin poked his head from behind the control panel as well, after pushing a few more buttons as though that would help.

"We'll--er--have extra next week to make up for it," He promised. "From J,GoB."

It was an important distinction to make with them.

"So, we thought that, after the confusion with the gremlins, we should have a bit more hands on practice where it's not just play-fighting."

Karla glanced back down at Tony, the only one of them halfway competent at technology, and decided it might be best if she and Merlin stayed out of his hair kept up the explanation.

"Exactly. So we've programmed the Danger Shop--or we will have very soon--to simulate an invasion Fandom's faced in the past: zombies. We'll have to work together to strategize, coordinate, and fight out the zombie menace. There will also be civilians to protect and rescue. This is going to be a very realistic simulation," she continued solemnly, "because we can't afford to be picky about what battles we fight. We've faced some nasty monsters before, so we know we can do it." Glancing down, she realized she'd been resting her hand on a button and moved it, trying not to look too guilty.

Tony looked up from the console and added, "I know it could be stressful to go through this again for some of you, and you're welcome to sit it out if you choose." He went back to studying the manual and entering codes into the console keyboard. Weird, some of these characters didn't look like any language he'd heard of. Oh, that one was probably the yen symbol and that was one of those things teachers wrote in red pen on essays that you were supposed to understand.

[OCD up! Also, please note: their experiments with the Danger Shop will be slightly more successful than their experiments in the kitchen (ie no one will DIE), but what they're expecting is not what they'll get.]

Tara was ... excited.

No, wait. Afraid.

No, wait. Both. Because yay for a chance to practice combat magic in a safe space, but she wasn't sure Karla and Merlin were the people she'd trust to set up something like that -- especially after the swearing. And, of course, there was the possibility her magic could be an epic failure.

So she was kind of warily bouncing as she waited for the practice session to begin.

Tara's mouth dropped open and her eyes went wide.

"... huh."

She quickly threw up a shield across one end of an alley -- after the disaster with Kennedy last week, she made sure to memorize the counterspell and to leave a back exit that a person could get through -- and stood behind it, surveying the yummy, yummy agenst of destruction as she tried to strategize.

*giggles* Raven would so be O.O if she was showing up.

Good god, Merlin had actually taken his advice.

Arthur was stunned, really.

Not that he showed it. (He was, in fact, moderately calmed by the fact that this whole thing appeared to be going off with the usual incompetence)

It wasn't that Kennedy wasn't always eager for a chance to get into it when there was a fight going down, even a fake one, but in between the grossout of the zombies in DADA class and some (annoyingly) lingering skittishness from last week's incident she was hanging back more than usual. Not by much, just a tiny bit, and she was acting about as nonchalant as always. Might as well make herself get over it, right?

She could just be Observation Girl today. That would be cool.

Tony was wondering exactly how the programming had gone so wrong. And if Merlin had put some of his special DVDs in the console when he hadn't been looking.

Was Jono the only one here who wasn't completely heartbroken about the lack of cookies?

Possibly so. It was also possible that he was sort of thrilled to be using the Danger Shop in the way that Danger Shops were meant to be used. So, all in all, it made for a somewhat merry Jono.

A little antsy that fending off Zombies would mean busting out the face for all to see, yes. But excited nevertheless.

Alex was kind of excited to try her hand at magic during an invasion. The last few times she'd been holed up in the library trying to help find a solution.

So, it was safe to say she was looking forward to today's session.

Diana was more than a little worried about combining certain members of the group of leaders with complicated technology. Her bottom lip was paying the price for that.

Oh, Tony. If Merlin had used one of his special DVDs, there would be more naked people.

Jono needed to take a moment before doing anything even remotely resembling fighting. Really.

Just to stand there and stare.

And then, when the bloody tyrannosaur caught wind of him, it was quite likely that he was going to have to run like hell, rather than worry about yanking his bandages down just yet.

I have had to bite down very, very hard on both lips to keep from cracking up in the middle of a law class. And even then, I am getting the most interesting looks from people. *is trying to pretend that she's sneezing* This was always here
