Third Floor Common Room [Saturday Afternoon]

It was snowing again though not SNOWPOCALYPSE but luckily not as much as last time and the power was still on. It was still enough to keep a Texas girl from wanting to go outside though.

So Claire headed down to the common room and decided to bake some cookies. She had found hot cocoa in the cupboards too. Perfect way to spend a cold, snowy day as far as she was concerned.

Kate wandered into the common room in search of snacks. Possibly also company.

Or at least someone to whine at. "Why's it snowing again?"

"Cause Mother Nature needs a Midol?" Claire suggested with a smirk. "I don't know but I'm just grateful we have power this time."

"Yeah, I don't think I could deal with another power outage like that," Kate said, shaking her head and heading for the fridge. "That sucked so much ass."

"No kidding," Claire agreed. "It was completely miserable. I'm so not used to this cold weather."

Kate shrugged, taking one of her pudding cups from the fridge. "I'm kinda used to it, but I still don't like it a lot."

"This batch of cookies is almost done," Claire told her when she saw her pull something out of the fridge.

So, Hinata had taken a long look at the snow falling outside, spared a moment to be glad she had nothing planned for the day, and had calmly scooped up Yei and headed out to see if there was any company to be found.

Her room got boring after a while, you see.

"Good afternoon," she said, stepping in and setting her kitten on the ground. Yei rubbed against her ankles cheerfully purring. "At least, I would say it is a good day while inside. I h-hope the weather doesn't worsen again."

"Yeah, same here," Claire said, offering a smile. "I'm baking cookies if you want some."

She was going to avoid offering the kitty scritches for the moment since cat hair was not a yummy addition to cookies.

"Pudding first," Kate said. "But ooh, cookies. I've been meaning to bake something for a while now, but I've been too lazy."

"Hi," Kate greeted the new girl with a smile. "Yeah, I'll flip out if we get another insane blizzard. Doesn't really look like it, though."

Yei, for her part, was just going to wander over and inspect the Very Interesting Couch. Exploring! Exploring was the best thing ever.

"I could not refuse an offer like th-that," she answered lightly. "Did you need a hand with any of it?"

Claire chuckled. "It's been a while since I've baked or cooked. I think it's the whole winter hibernation kicking in."

"Just with the eating part, I think," Claire said. "Unless you want to make the cocoa. I haven't gotten that far yet."

"That could be it," Kate agreed with a small smirk. "That, and the island distracting us by acting up."

"One weekend freezing was more th-than enough for me," she agreed. "Right now it looks lovelier than that weekend, but I confess it makes me a bit uneasy. Snow isn't common where I'm from."

The smell of something baking was enough to draw Jonas from his room and down the hall to the common room. Following his nose seemed like a better time to spend the day than going outside and battling the cold.

"Hello," he said once he'd slipped inside. "Whatever you're baking smells very good."

"Well, at least you're probably not alone with that," Kate remarked. "I'm plenty familiar with snow, though. But I still don't want another one of those weekends happening. Oh, and I'm Kate, by the way. I don't think we've met."

"Thanks," Claire said with a grin. "There's chocolate chip cookies on the cooling racks. I've got peanut butter in the oven and I'm mixing up a batch of oatmeal raisin now."

Hinata looked mildly dubious at that. And apologetic.

"I can make the stuff that's a powder?" she checked, wandering over to the counter. "But I don't know how to make the real sort of cocoa at all."

"Well, yeah," Claire said with a roll of her eyes. "And, well, I had some other stuff going on that sort of made me hermit for a while."

"Oh, that's fine," Claire said, nodding at a box she had pulled out. "The real stuff takes too long."

Kate? Hinata tilted her head slightly, smiling at that.

"I'm Hinata," she replied. "It is a pleasure to meet you--and, forgive me, but would you happen to be the Kate th-that flamingos don't like?"

"Oh?"

That was about as far as Kate was going to with the prompting. She'd done the hermit thing for a while, too, and didn't care to talk about it much.

"You've baked all those already?" Jonas asked, pleasantly surprised. "I think I'd have destroyed half the common room if I tried."

"Family stuff," Claire explained with a shrug. She was mostly past the blaming herself for Peter and Nathan's deaths thing but it was still something she didn't like to talk about.
