Magic Reserves, The Danger Shop, (After Classes, Before Hockey)

Third time was hopefully a charm as the Magic Reserves met at the Danger Shop again. And, to be clear, they were meeting here because it was a convenience and a help, and not out of any desire to show the stupid room who was boss.

So there.

"Uh, hi everyone," Karla said, trying to sound utterly confident in their Danger Shop prowess. "We're going to try something different this week. Like the Fighting Reserves mentioned yesterday, sometimes we're taken by surprise by an attack. And even though we have powers, that doesn't always mean that we're in any position to use them--or, at least, use them effectively. Knowing how to use the environment to our advantage in a fight is just as important for us as it is for anyone else."

"We especially need to learn this in case there are other people around so we don't accidentally hit any allies." Because that was a problem when flinging things about, okay?

Not that Merlin had any experience with it. Really.

"You simply need to take in your surroundings and figure out what will work best to defend yourself."

Like a chandelier!

"We're sorta going for subtle here, today," Tony said. "Like maybe you don't want to advertise you've got magic. Maybe you don't want the enemy to know what they're up against yet."

Merlin nodded enthusiastically at that, fiddling with a button or two in order to make a run-of-the-mill-evil medieval henchman appear.

"There are small things you can do in order to throw them off in a fight. Alter their weapon, pull the rug from beneath their feet, trip them with whatever happens to be near... just to name a few. The limits really only come in the form of your imagination!"

Karla glanced at her co-leaders, took a deep breath, and pressed the buttons to make the simulations start. She preemptively winced as the images appeared--and then relaxed when there was no signs of dinosaurs, porn stars or carnivorous bunnies. "Have at!" she said, cheering.

[Wait for the OCD or the Canadians will lose! You don't want to be responsible for that, do you? OCD up! The Canadians are safe.]

Raven was there, of course, and waited to ping to keep Canada safe.

Raven just hovered on the edges of the simulation. Her gifts were useless here, and she wouldn't fight, so she felt unneeded. She just kept watch for someone who might need to be teleported away.

And that was definitely not a grin of success on Tony's face.

Jono... really had no idea what in the world he was supposed to be able to do in a situation like this.

Rely on his wits without even considering his powers, he supposed. Excuse him while he furrows his eyebrows and mulls on that for a bit.

Jono's idea of using his surroundings in a situation like this was to hide behind a tree. Pretty much any tree would do, so long as it was big enough to hide behind.

... And fine, maybe he'd picked up a pair of fist-sized stones, too. He wasn't entirely certain what good he'd be able to put them to, but if nothing else, he could throw them at the grunts and then run like hell.

Well, Kurt was used to hiding. He could do subtle! He was MISTER Subtle!

Kurt took to the trees. He hopped from branch to branch, trying to come up with some vague idea of what he'd do once he found himself on a branch above a henchman.

Kurt grabbed a plate of hors d'oeuvres off a waiter, ducked under a table, and used the cover of the tablecloth to teleport himself to the ceiling without being noticed. He tried to keep the bright lights of the chandeliers between him and the crowd, and hoped no one looked up.

He munched on a few of the snacks, and then tossed one at one of the henchmen's heads.

Next week, Dinah was so bringing candy to keep their energy up. This week, she wasn't sharing.

She was looking forward to the subtleties of stealth messing with someone though.

Dinah was sipping her drink, as she carefully, carefully, put out a TK shove on the next step the henchman took, so hopefully they'd pratfall.

All the champagne had to go *somewhere*, right?

Alex was there and boy, did she have a few tricks up her sleeve thanks to all the years pranking her brothers.

Dinah watched the henchmen... hench, and considered her first move, crouched down behind a small set of rocks.

Which was a shame, but also kind of fun. Dinah continued to sip her drink, then smothered a smile and asked one of the henchmen with real concern, "Are you okay? You poor guy."
