2nd Floor Common Room, Friday Evening

Trying to figure out how to precisely report what she'd been up to in the last few weeks was dull enough (and difficult enough—Hinata was entirely certain that her father would not believe that she'd spent a weekend only a few inches tall and rather painfully dim) and Hinata was feeling social enough to wander out to the common room.

The television got turned on, if only for the noise, and Hinata settled down with a book to read. Only to pause and reach under the cushion of the couch and pull out a crayon.

Laughing softly, she set the crayon in her lap and went back to her book.

… Yes, this counted as being social for Hinata. Baby steps here. At least she was out of her room?

Friday night, and Dinah was restless, but last night was crimefighting, so, staying in seemed the order of the night. "Hinata, hey," she said as she came in, heading toward the cabinets. "Anything good on TV?" Oo, popcorn.

"Dinah, hello!" She looked up from her book and shook her head ruefully. "I have to admit that I haven't been paying much attention to what's on. I just like it for the noise."

Dinah squinted at the screen for a second, but couldn't immediately identify the content-- something with a robot? And a guy in a white coat who had Mad Scientist written all over him. "We can surf around, or leave it... I'm not finding popcorn. Do you want anything?" She grinned over at Hinata. "Been up to much, lately?"

"If th-there's no popcorn," she said lightly, "isn't the next default ice cream?"

She was pretty sure it was. That or chocolate.

Dinah's question got a soft laugh. "It doesn't feel like it but when I stop and think about it, I suppose I've been a bit busy. How have you been?"

"Ice cream!" Dinah opened the freezer, and brightened immediately. "Ooo, Chunky Monkey, Cherry Garcia, Phish Food or Whirled Peace?" She grinned around the freezer door at Hinata. "I've been waaaay too busy. I think I deserve a goofing-off weekend, you know? Maybe just camping out in a Common Room and watching TV until something presents itself. I've been taking a lot of off island trips lately."

"Perhaps you should throw a slumber party," she teased lightly. "Celebrate your lazy weekend with silly action movies. You'd also have an excuse then to lounge around in your jammies."

Because Hinata was one of those people who felt excuses were needed for that sort of thing.

"Whirled Peace, please," she added. "And have your trips been exciting at least?"

Dinah grabbed the Whirled Peace for Hinata, the Phish Food for herself, and two spoons from the drawer before climbing over the back of the sofa to flop down next to her, handing over one pint. "Interesting, anyway. One trip home to see my family. One trip to Raven's home, which was quiet but wow, gorgeous. And one trip to Dru's home, which was-- I pretty much slept for 15 hours after I got back, because nothing ever slowed down and it was fairly terrifying." Mmmm, Phiiiiish.

Hinata was pretty sure she'd never been handed a pint of ice cream before. This did not stop her from laughing softly as she dug in, even while glancing over at Dinah.

"Terrifying?" That didn't sound good at all. "Is everything alright now?"

Long past time then, no?

"Enh." Dinah considered, taking a bite of ice cream, and said, "Dru's safe here? Which is the main thing. Her family history turned out to be full of more enemies and danger and supernatural stuff than she knew." She snorted, and sucked on the spoon. "And people trying to tell her what to do. They can't find her here to be bossy at her, though."

True enough. Even though, if Hinata reflected on it, she'd have to admit that Fandom was doing an absolute number on her eating habits.

Hinata looked thoughtful around her spoonful of ice cream. She licked the spoon and offered, "Some people boss others around because they care for them. The best of intentions... and everything. I hope she's holding up alright. S-Sounds like a lot of shocks to handle."

She didn't know Dru, but she didn't have to know her to hope for the best.

"Maybe? Maybe that, and just not believing anyone can know what to do as well as they do. Which is massively annoying," Dinah said, then shook her head. "She's-- I don't know. Dru had some huge stuff to think about. Last time I checked in, she was still kind of shut down." In a more subdued voice, Dinah said, "Can't blame her. And at least she isn't doing anything stupid." Like, say, Dinah would have in her place by now.

"No thinking of depressing things," she said gently, moving to try and nudge Dinah just a little. "There's nothing to be done by dwelling on the matter unless you can do something to help it. If she's feeling down... perhaps take her out for something fun?"

Bobby had debated going back to LA, since he didn't have class again until Wednesday. Nobody'd called and said he was needed there, though, so in the end he settled for sticking around Fandom. At least for now.

"I don't suppose anyone's seen anything vaguely foodlike in here?" he asked as he wandered in.

"We h-have ice cream," Hinata answered lightly. "Several flavours in case you have preferences."

Ice cream was definitely foodlike.

Dinah brightened, and pointed her spoon at Hinata. "You make an excellent, excellent point. Hinata-kun." She grinned at the other girl, and twirled her spoon. "Maybe shopping. Maybe food. Her pick." She leaned her head back on the couch. "Fun things, fun things..." She grinned suddenly. "I had a great date this week? And I like the pajamas-and-TV idea here. Maybe I can host a Darkest Night marathon at some point?"

When you were Bobby? Ice cream was a food group. "Preferences? Nah, I'm totally easy," Bobby said airily.

"A date?" That was something more cheerful! "Are you going to say more than it was great? Or will I have to guess?"

In which case, she would flail and look pathetic because Hinata had really no clue about dates and things. Side-effect to having a crush on the same oblivious boy for... five years and counting now.

"A marathon of Darkest Night?" Hinata considered that, then nodded. "It's a fun show, what I saw of it. I think I missed more than half the episodes as they came out though." Not much of a regular television watcher, no. But it had been fun! "And I seem to recall that wh-when it first aired it was common for a fair few people to come and flock to watch it."

... That was her way of saying 'yes, that's a good show for a marathon, Dinah'.

"Does that go for all foods?" she asked, amused. "If so, then feeding you must be easy."

Despite him being a teenaged boy and, in Hinata's experience, teenaged boys eating more than anyone ought to sensibly manage and still wind up wanting more.

But volume was easier if preference wasn't an issue.

"Wh-What if the ice cream was something like... squid flavoured?"

Hint: it wasn't.

"We need to catch up," Dinah decided. "There was the Olympics, and then Tony was mad at Lee, and we got way behind. Marathon!" She nodded definitely, and then grinned wide. "I went bowling and out for chili fries with Jaime. Waaay fun. And silly." She grinned, hugging herself a little as she took another bite of ice cream. "And there was kissing. Even if people laughed at us when we slipped on the bowling alley floor."

She stifled a laugh of her own at that mental image.

"Dinah!" she said, pink at the thought. "Kissing wh-where everyone could see you?"

"I know!" Dinah snickered, and wriggled on the couch. "But, it just came out of the moment, you know? Not to show off, or annoy anyone, just... the right time to kiss Jaime." Her grin softened a little, and she said, "So yeah. Happy thing. Maybe I can drag him in here to watch TV this weekend too."

...

Hinata was not sure that she could wrap her mind around kissing someone just to annoy someone else. Totally too nice for that to even cross her mind.

"That would be nice," she replied, smiling. And eating another spoonful of ice cream. "He wants me to host a picnic--perhaps distracting him with television will keep him from noticing I have not done so yet."

Well, with various people shouting 'get a room' at Fast Eddie's, it ended up being a thought that crossed Dinah's mind. Luckily, actually kissing Jaime drove it away pretty fast.

"Oh? You totally should! Why don't you want to?" Dinah asked, looking curious. "He talked you into it?"

"Well, most foods," Bobby admitted. He gave her a wide-eyed look at the mention of squid ice cream. "Squid ice cream being one of the exceptions."

"I said that parties wh-where usually too large for me to fully enjoy them," she explained cheerfully. "He suggested that I hold a picnic or something with just my friends which... isn't a bad idea on the surface, but how am I to decide who to ask to come? Wh-What if they don't get along with each other and I didn't know beforehand? What if they haven't met and just dislike each other on sight?"

Hinata: thought too much.

Not to mention the fact that she was rather dubious about, say, Ender and Hayley having much to talk about.
