Fourth Floor Common Room, Sunday Afternoon

Chloe had tried watching something on the TV, but all of the fighting she knew was going on outside was keeping her sufficiently distracted. She got up from the couch and paced a little bit before she went to stand beside the winter. She hated that she couldn't do anything to help her friends and teachers that were out there. Her powers weren't exactly helpful and her fighting skills were nil. She couldn't call to talk to Tori or Derek or Simon because if they found out what was going on here right now would throw all of them into a panic.

So, she watched the giant lizard monster attacking the island and the people fighting and hoped that everyone got through this alive.

And destroyed that thing and its friends, too.

"Watching from a window isn't going to help them much," Ino commented as she wandered in because, of course, her floor was out of the granola bars she favoured and that meant, clearly, she had to look for more. Ino hopped up on the counter easily, opening the cupboard. "Or help you much, for that matter."

A beat.

"Granola bar?"

Chloe walked away from the window.

"I just h-hate n-not being able to do anything useful to help." She shook her head. "No, but thank you."

Ino glanced over her shoulder at the girl, pulling out two and tucking one in a pocket for later. The other she opened and absently spun around to sit on the counter.

Awww, she stuttered.

"Do you know any first aid?" Ino asked, tilting her head. "Or would you like to learn any? You don't have to fight to be useful."

But she wanted to learn to fight so that she could defend herself.

She shook her head. "N-no, but I'd l-like t-to."

See, that was a worthy goal too, definitely.

"I'm Ino," she said, feeling better about this week just with the offer on the tip of her tongue. "I'm Monday's clinic worker, and a fully trained field medic besides. You think you could stand learning from me?"

A beat.

"I promise not to bite." She'd be a bit bossy, at times, but Ino wasn't generally the sort to be bitchy at people who pinged as wee and adorable on her radar.

Chloe smiled shyly. "I w-would appreciate that, Ino. I'm C-Chloe. I'm p-promise to listen and p-pay attention."

She paused.

"W-why w-would someone thing you'd b-bite?"

Ino seemed perfectly nice to her.

Ino's grin was pleased. Both at the acceptance and the question.

"I've got a bit of a temper," she said lightly, nibbling on her granola bar. "And I tend to be kinda blunt 'bout my opinions of others sometimes."

Painfully blunt, really. Tact was only a friend when she was actively trying to use it.

Robin was of a similar mood. He sought out a common room with people in it. He didn't really want to be alone just now.

If Chloe wasn't so used to being around Tori, she might have been a little concerned about that.

"B-back h-home --" Okay, it wasn't exactly home. "-- I have a friend like that n-named T-Tori."

"H-hello."

[intraspective]

"Yeah?" She grinned at that. "Hope she's a good friend, then, if she's anything like how I'm sounding like."

Chloe nodded. "She really is."

Yes, they hadn't started out as friends, but they were now and that was what mattered.

Ino nodded, giving Chloe a long considering look.

"When'd be best for lessons? I'm warning you it's not something that's learnt quick if you want anything more than the absolute basics."

Hayley entered the common room, mainly because she was scared.

"...it's gonna be okay out there, right?" she said. There was a slight stutter to her words.

"I w-would l-like to know anything you are willing to t-teach m-me," she said, a little less shyly than before.

"I h-have class on M-Mondays and Wednesdays and I w-work F-Fridays and Sundays."

Chloe gave her a small smile. "I t-think it will. I've h-heard that they always succeed here when attacked."

"It'll be fine," Ino said confidently. "Don't worry 'bout it."

[intraspective]

Ino silently considered that.

"What 'bout an evening?" she said, tilting her head. "I've got Thursday free but a lot of times I'm off on missions or something and I don't always get word of it ahead of time. Or Monday--I'm at the clinic already, taking the time to show you things there might work?"

But, really, Ino was pretty easy here.

She thought about it and then nodded. "I c-could come to the c-clinic on Mondays after class?"

She was pretty excited about all of this.

"That works for me," she said, grinning at her. "It'll be fun."

As fun as learning how to fix people was but Ino really did think that it counted as fun.

Chloe grinned back. "I think so, too."

Look, as long as she wasn't having to deal with anyone that was dead or ghosts, she would really enjoy this.

"And then," she said lightly, "we can think of more ways for you to be useful. There's no point in not trying, yeah? Sometimes people fail anyway but if no one ever tries then there's no point to nothing."

"They've been attacked by a giant dinosaur before?" Hayley said, thinking that sounded crazy just saying it. "Well I guess this place sure doesn't pull its punches, huh?"

Oh, Ino may be Chloe's new best friend and if she was a puppy her tail would have been wagging wildly while she trembled with excitement.

"I w-would really like that a lot, Ino."

"I d-don't know about the dinosaurs but apparently weird things happen here."
