The Stables, Monday Later Afternoon

With a few packs full of Arthur's things--and his own, of course--Merlin had only the animals left. Hopefully Owain would remember him enough to not attack. That owl was vicious, alright? Vicious.

He loaded the horses before texting to see if anyone was still around. Was it another one of those odd time differences? Oh god, was this years in the future?

What if people he knew were all old?

Getting a text from Merlin was absolutely enough to leave work early for--well, once she'd deciphered the message and verified that the creepy carpenter had gone. "Merlin!" Karla cried once she'd tracked his psychic scent to the stables. "Hell's fire and Mother Night, you're back!"

"Ohthankgod!" Merlin needed to remember there were spaces between words. And that clinging to Karla wasn't very manly. People weren't old and scary!

Don't worry, Merlin. Karla's not judging you manliness of lack thereof. She was too busy clinging and babbling back. "What happened?" she asked. "All I got from radio was that there was a creature and you were gone and I didn't get a chance top track down Francine or Katchoo before they left on their trip and are Arthur and Morgana with you?"

She had spaces in between words. It was just sentences she was having a problem with.

"We were pulled back home," Merlin replied with a sigh. "I just found a way back and no one was around and it was very confusing, you know."

"Will you be able to get back all right?" Karla asked, worried now. "I know there was a problem with that before..."

"I think I can." Maybe. Hopefully. Look, it was a work in progress. "Has it been long since we left? Time passed far slower back home when we were here."

"It's only been a few weeks," Karla said. "About three, I think. We just moved down to the cabins yesterday." She pointed through the stable wall, in case Merling had forgotten the directions to the cabins or something. "How long has it been for you?"

"...about three weeks. That's odd." Merlin, don't try to figure out the time difference issues. It will only hurt your little brain.

"Wait, so...time moved slower when you were here, but now that you're back, it's lined up with Fandom time?" Karla, stop trying to help. Neither of you have degrees advances enough for this.

"I blame magic." Much better.

"Magic is a good thing to blame," Merlin agreed. "It does thing to time. Makes it all... bendy."

Where was the Doctor when you needed him?

"I think the kind of thing you're describing goes beyond bendy and closer to all...wibbly-wobbly," Karla said, thinking aloud. "Hmmm. I wonder. Since you're here, do you think the time in Camelot will slow down again?"

If so, maybe he could stay for a few days...

"Timey wimey?" Merlin ventured, helpfully. "...I hope so. Arthur might kill me for going on my own."

Karla snapped her fingers. "That's an excellent way of putting it." Timey wimey. She liked that.

"Well, it's going to be hard to deny, bringing back all that stuff and your animals, right?" she pointed out. "Even if you've only been gone for ten minutes there, it's going to be pretty obvious."

"I could say I found it all in the woods," Merlin suggested hopefully.

Karla gave him a look. "Arthur's not going to buy it. The animals, maybe, but all the stuff you left in your rooms?"

Hey, it could totally work! In a magical world. Where logic dies.

"Was she helped by the unicorns with rainbow manes and golden hooves?" Karla snorted. "While the owl led the way?"

"...our unicorns don't have--" Merlin finally cottoned onto the joke there. "--She might have been. She's a very resourceful dog."

"I dare you to tell Arthur that," Karla said, not even trying to hold back the laughter. "In fact, I think it's a brilliant plan."

"The unicorn's name was Karla," he added. "Details like that make it more believable."

"And not everything can go without a hitch," Karla agreed, nodding. "Like, maybe Karla-the-unicorn kicked one of Arthur's bags. I'll bring one outside and kick it around in the dirt for a little verisimilitude."

"Why would the unicorn have kicked your bag, Merlin?" Karla chided with a grin. "That just doesn't even make sense."
