Third Floor Common Room, Friday Evening

Alex made her way to the common room and plopped down on the couch, intent on finding something good to watch. Instead, she found a program on the myths of magic and wizardry.

There was a bowl of popcorn in front of her and every so often, Alex would throw some at the television and make comments. Clearly, those people had no idea what they were talking about.

[I don't even know. Open.]

Hinata was... wandering. It was perfectly alright to wander, wasn't it? And it was only one floor up.

She studied the room for a moment.

"What did the show say to deserve food thrown at it?" she asked softly, but curiously.

"They're opinions on magic and wizards are completely one-sided," Alex explained. She eyed the television, daring the narrators to say something else. "It's as if they didn't even bother with research."

Her brother would laugh if he could see her now.

"They probably didn't," Hinata said, frowning slightly. "Or, if they did, they lacked the resources to find someone who could give them a proper opinion."

"Yeah, I keep forgetting that outside of this place most people think that wizards are purely fantasy," Alex admitted, shaking her head. She'd been in Fandom too long.

Hinata's smile was slightly rueful.

"They cannot really be blamed for their ignorance," she said gently. "I doubt their wizards are eager to advertise their presence."

"You have a point," Alex agreed. "I should stop wasting popcorn on this. So not worth it," she added, cracking a smile. "Want some?"

"Yes, please," she said, grinning slightly. "And you can tell m-me what they're getting wrong rather than wasting popcorn."

"I wouldn't know what they're messing up," Hinata explained as she sat. "We do not have magic in my world."

Wesley had also been wandering, but only because he had learned his lesson about going on the roof after getting stuck there with Quinn, he loathed being in his room with his roommate, and the library was getting a little old. He heard the sound of a television giving an informational lecture, and since that kind of program was just his style, he entered and took a seat.

"Hello," he said, settling down on the couch next to Alex.

"Hey," Alex replied, a small smile on her face. "New kid?" She didn't recognize him so she figured she had half a chance at being right.

"Yes," Wes agreed. "Wesley Wyndam-Pryce." He stuck out his hand. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything private," he added quickly.

Alex passed her the bowl. She was more than happy to share. "Well, for starters, the fact that magic is pure fiction," she scoffed, wondering how blind they had to be to think that.

"You don't?" It was safe to say she was a bit shocked at that. "In my world, most people don't know wizards and magic exist. It's a well kept secret."

"Alex Russo," she replied, shaking his hand. "I'm just having a bit of a disagreement with this program." Yeah, she probably sounded a little crazy but she didn't really care.

"Perfectly understandable," said Wesley. "I personally have regular disagreements with many of the informational programs I watch." Watching the television for a few seconds and seeing that it was about the myths of wizardry, Wes guessed, "I take it you are from a universe with magic?"

She shook her head while snagging a handful of popcorn.

"We have a few thing that appear as magic, but aren't," Hinata explained, smiling slightly. "What do you mean, magic is pure fiction?"

Hinata leaned forward to get a look at the new person and smiled with a small wave.

"Good evening," she said quietly.

"Glad I'm not the only one," Alex laughed. She had a feeling Justin would have a similar opinion and that was kind of scary. "That obvious, huh?" It was mostly rhetorical.

And she was kind of impressed at how he didn't freak out at the possibility. "What about you?"

"Good evening," Wes replied politely. "Wesley Wyndam-Pryce."

Katniss was more attracted by the smell of the popcorn than anything else. She wasn't entirely sure if she was allowed to be in a common room that wasn't her own, but she also wasn't going to ask. She'd found it was better to act first and then ask questions later.

So she just walked in, gave everyone a small smile, and asked, "What sort of television program is this? And can I try some of that stuff you're eating?"

See? She could make friends and be polite.

"Myself as well," he replied. "My own experiences generally consisted of demons and vampires and the like, but magic exists in my universe as well. Are you personally a witch, or are you simply familiar with the field?"

"Oh, that's different," Alex said. "For the most part, yes. It's sad but true. I guess most people just don't believe in that kind of stuff anymore. Or they're just too blind to see it."

"I am Hinata," she said lightly. "Are you interested in shows like this?"

She wouldn't ask if he was new. That was obvious.

"Hi!" Alex waved, gesturing to an empty seat near her. "It's an informational program about magic and wizardry," she explained. "Most of it's wrong though."

Yes, she glared at the television before looking back at the girl. "Sure," Alex held out the bowl to her. "It's popcorn and it's really good."

"Maybe they're scared," Hinata suggested. "Of having to deal with things they don't understand."

Wes wasn't sure what the rules are concerning the popcorn, but he was glad to finally know someone. "Hello," he said. "Katniss, isn't it?"

Katniss was never going to refuse food, even if momentarily stunned. "Are you a wizard?" she asked, staring even as she took a handful of popcorn.
