Second Floor Common Room; Sunday Afternoon

A love for sports ran in the family so, naturally, Luke was excited about the World Cup final today. All of the teams he rooted for were kicked out of the tournament a while ago (seriously, Greece, what the hell?), so he didn't have much of an opinion on who he wanted to win. That little octopus guy picked Spain and his grandfather had a thing for Krakens so maybe he'd lean over that way.

Whatever, he just wanted to eat some popcorn and possibly see people duel with vuvuzelas.

[Well it's open, naturally]

Alex couldn't find coffee in her common room, so she decided to try one floor down. And if that didn't yield results, well, she'd head for the Perk.

With her empty mug in hand, Alex wandered into the common room and was headed for the coffee maker when she noticed the World Cup was on. "Oh, what's the score?"

That was a hello in there somewhere.

"Here's hoping it's at least exciting while scoreless," Alex replied. "Though it might be fun to see if they can break the world record of yellow cards in a World Cup final."

That would be something to see.

"I feel the same way about football," Alex admitted. "Did I miss any good penalties?"

"What's that sound?" Katniss asked, frowning as she came into the common room. She was, naturally, referring to the vuvuzelas. It reminded her uncomfortably of trackerjackers, which was why she anxiously located the source of the sound. "It's coming from the television, right?"

"They sound like insects," Katniss said, somewhat reassured. She peered at the television, taking a seat. "What is this? A game?"

"Oh whoa," Alex said, surprised by that. "Was the ref blind or something? That's crazy that he didn't get a red card."

Karla had been aware that there was some kind of really important sporting even going on for weeks now, but after verifying it wasn't more Olympics, she hadn't bothered learning anything more than that.

So it was a slightly confused, slightly curious Karla who was poking her head into the common room. "Kiss kiss," she said with a small wave. "What's that buzzing sound? What're you watching?"

Katniss studied the screen for a moment, waiting for this soccer to resemble her own national sport at any time. "...they just kick that ball?" she asked, sort of pleased by this. "That's it?"

"Let's hope they do. It could make for quite the game," Alex guessed.

"I'm Alex," she replied. "I'm on the third floor. I was hoping I could find some coffee down here," she added, gesturing to her empty mug.

"Why?" she asked, already leaning forward with her elbows on her knees to watch more intently. "What do they win?"

Admittedly, that was half the reason Karla had started using it. Which said a lot about Karla.

"A vuvuzela?" she asked, intrigued. "That sounds like some kind of very exotic creature. Do they take part in the games?" She was still kind of fuzzy on what soccer was. Or most sports, other than baseball, hockey, and a few winter spots Glacia and this world shared in common.

"Oh," she said, coming inside and looking at the teevee. Just people running around on a field. "Where are they?"

"You too," Alex said. "I might not survive without it," she half-joked. "You could? I'd owe you big time."

She would, too. She lived for coffee. Must be a New York thing.

"South Africa," Karla repeated, trying to remember if that was one of the places she knew. It didn't sound familiar, so she shook her head, resolving to look it up later on the Google or the Wikipedia; the combined source of all knowledge.

"They don't sound like any instrument I've ever heard, it's true," Karla agreed, dropping into a nearby seat. "I'm Karla. Welcome to Fandom." She tilted her head a bit at him. His psychic scent was unfamiliar, which was how she realized he was new, but there was something familiar about it. Something more than human, though she couldn't put her finger on what. "Settling in okay?"
