The deck - Afternoon

Jake was reclining on one of the chairs, his bare feet propped up on the railing. He was bored, bored and bored. Which led him to having gone off island for a while, catching up with the rest of the pack. On his way back, he'd found a nice piece of wood which he was working it with his knife so it slowly started to take the shape of a wolf.

It was kind of relaxing and he was able to push aside thoughts of how fucking annoying Leah was, needing to keep insinuating things. Damn, but was he grateful he didn't need to put up with her every frigging day. It was much like Professor Skywalker had told him, keeping your hands busy helped to clear you mind.

Claudia spotted Jake on the deck and decided it would be a good idea to try to sneak up on the werewolf.

Apparently not, because wolf hearing told him someone was there and his nose told him who it was (even if that was sort of creepy if you weren't a werewolf).

His hands paused for an instant as he considered calling her out, but then he was curious to see what she'd do. Trying not to grin, he started shaping a puffy tail in the wood.

She was totally a master sneaky person! Claudia grinned, reaching out to do the whole "guess who" eye covering thing.

Jake snorted, foregoing faking surprise in favour of being obnoxious.

"You know, I'd have thought you'd be more creative," he commented, tipping his head towards her a little.

"Meh," Claudia said. "It's been a long week." She dropped her hands and leaned over his shoulder. "Whaaatcha doing?"

"Carving," he said, holding up the still not-quite-wolf-shaped wolf for her to see.

The carving knife, he rested on the armrest of his chair, freeing up his hand so he could reach back and lightly tug a lock of her hair. He had no clue why. "Why's it a long week? Did you get in trouble?"

"Oooo," Claudia said. She could guess what it was he was trying to carve. "No real reason. Just classes and stuff. What are you taking this semester?"

"Tracking and Unconventional Tactics," he said. "Somehow I'm TAing for both. What about you?"

"You're like a TA fiend. I've got Unconventional Tactics, Boom-De-Yadda Science, and the Science of Deduction. And Reno's, like, the most rational teacher of the bunch."

"Reno's cool," Jake said with a decisive nod as he glanced back at her. "So does that mean you like the non-science class best? Because I might have to act all shocked then."

"Are you kidding? We got to be on Everest on Wednesday. I just mean he's, you know, almost kind of normal."

"I doubt anyone here's normal," Jake wrinkled his nose at her. "So you climbed the Everest? Or did they drop you off on top?"

"Just on the top. It was all windy and snowy."

"No? Really?" he teased, smirking as he quickly reached up to ruffle her hair and mess it up as much as he could. "Were there rocks too?"

She stuck her tongue out at him. "No. It was made of ice cream."

"Oh man, an Everest of ice cream. Talk about brain freeze," he snickered. "Are you going to sit or should I drag you down?"

"But I was enjoying getting to look down at you." She flopped into the chair next to him. "It so rarely happens."

"I'll try to be smaller from now on," he promising, glancing at her. "So did you like the view?"

"Dude, it was amazing. All white and gray and huge."

Oh ouch, there went his ego, but fair enough.

"Yeah? Sounds cool, being on top of the world," he nodded. "We went to a real alien planet for finals last time with Reno. So maybe there'll be something cool at the end of that too."

"What are you doing?" Rosalind asked. On her way back from town and stepping up the deck lightly.

"Um," he frowned at her. "What?"

And then his brain connected, like any brain who was a little bit obsessed would. "You're not getting classes from a leech, are you?"

"Something very dark and mysterious," Jake smirked at her. Yeah, he was full of it, but at least he held out the tiny carving for her to inspect. Not that it was anywhere near done, but the general shape was there.

"Science of Deduction. Teach had us looking at a crime scene from a recent 'case'." Yeah, she totally just did air quotes. "Of course, his friend already blogged all about it, so I totally knew the solution already."
