Fifth Floor Common Room; Thursday Evening [ 12/30 ].

Ariel was in a sparkling dress and rooting around through the cupboards in the common room, pulling out all the Cheetos and Pringles and Pop Tarts and jelly beans she could find which meant only one thing: someone just got her legs back after her stay at home and she was hungry.

It wasn't even that all that swimming tended to make a girl hungry; she just really missed human food.

What she would constitute as human food, anyway.

Bruce walked into the common room and, upon seeing all of the food, figured that the gremlin did safely escape the cupboard, that Ariel managed to miss the gremlin cupboard, or Ariel found the gremlin, made friends with it, and was currently treating it to her kind of meal.

He figured the first was most likely as it had been a few days since the gremlin incident.

"Good evening, Ariel," Bruce said. "Is the feast for a special occasion?"

That cupboard must not have had the usual spoils of Ariel's taste, so who could really tell at this point?

"Oh, hi, Bruce!" Ariel looked over her shoulder from where she was kneeling on the counter, because she was absolutely dressed for climbing on counters, and she gave him a smile. "No particular occasion except my just getting back. No food like this..." She cleared her throat a little. "Back home, you know."

"Sure," Bruce said, catching her meaning. "How was the visit home?"

"Oh, it was great!" Ariel chirped. "My sisters really liked the gifts I gave them, and my friend Flounder know of a newer shipwreck to explore, and I even convinced everyone to decorate the palace for the holiday."

And, being mindful of Bruce's feelings on junk food, she held something out for him, helpfully pointing to the label. "Would you like a Pop Tart? They're made with read fruit, see?"

"No thanks, I just ate," Bruce said. He had a salad after an evening run around the island. He was still a little hungry, but no.

Ariel shrugged, and tossed the Pop Tarts into her growing pile of snacks. "And how were things here? Anything exciting that I missed?"

She could assume, anyway, that he stuck around here, all things considered.

"I was gone for most of last week," Bruce said. "But aside from a pretty impressive snowfall over the weekend, it's been quiet. That should change tomorrow night, though."

With his goals for today accomplished, Bod found his way down to the common room to see if anything was going on. Upon seeing Ariel, he smiled lightly and wandered in.

"Hullo, Ariel," he greeted with a brief wave.

"Hi, Bod!" Ariel grinned from her ever growing pile of snack foods. "Hungry?"

Ariel snapped her fingers. "Figures I'd miss a really good snowfall," she said, a little disappointed, because it wasn't like it snowed under the sea very often. "What makes you think that'll change for tomorrow night, though?"

Bod eyed the pile of food and laughed lightly. "I think I am now. Are you stocking up in event of a blizzard?"

"New Year's Eve. It sounds like there's going to be a big party for it in town," Bruce said.

"No," Ariel said, giggling herself, and thinking a blizzard could be pretty exciting. "Not really. More like making up for lost snacking. I've just got back from a visit home, and so I've missed all these foods that we don't have there."

"Tomorrow?" Ariel asked, eyes lighting up. "Looks like I got back just in time! I love big parties!"

"Welcome back," he said, coming further into the common room and taking a seat on one of the couches. "How was your trip?"

"I remember," Bruce noted. "According to the signs, it'll be in the park. Dress warmly, I guess."

"Bod. How are you today?" Bruce asked.

"Oh, it was great!" Ariel said with a smile, taking the pile of junk food into her arms and then depositing them into a large bowl. "And, clearly, I got to come back, so my worry about that wasn't needed. I got to spend some time with my sisters and went exploring with my best friend, and it wasn't such a long visit that I got to start really missing being here, you know?"

She then took the bowl with her over to the sitting area to put it on the coffee table for anyone to enjoy. "And you stayed here, right? Anything exciting happen?"

"Oh, outside!" Ariel beaming reception of the news was definitely staying. "That should be fun! Are you going?"

"Hullo, Bruce," Bod returned, nodding. "I'm well, I suppose. I'm looking forward to the new semester as I've gotten a little bored with all the free time. Yourself?"

"I figured I'd make an appearance," Bruce said. "You know me. I like to lurk around parties."

Hey, that was kind of a joke!

"Same. The semester really can't get here fast enough," Bruce said. "I just want a bunch of things to really focus on again."

"You're, like, an expert lurker," Ariel said with a grin. "If there's dancing, you know I might pester you to break your busy lurking schedule for a dance."

"I did stay here and not really," he said, shaking his head while his eyes went to that bowl of food. His stomach rumbled. "I think I've gotten myself a job, though. That's personally exciting for me."

"As do I," he agreed. He especially wanted that lately. "I did acquire a job though. I think that's a step in the right direction."
