Fifth Floor Common Room, Afternoon

After a combination of boredom, exhaustion, hunger, a very interesting class, and perhaps what could be understood as common sense seemed to happen all at the same time, Chalire decided that settling in the dorms might be beneficial for her in the long run. Or short run, as she was still expecting something to use as an excuse to haul ass and ditch the student facade, even though she couldn't hide the fact she was enjoying herself alright.

She had even managed to buy food, so her way to the dorms was one carrying a large pizza cardboard half empty, and another one still complete. She had gone a little crazy there, but she supposed she would be able to earn more money...eventually.

Take, for example as to why it was a good idea to stay in the dorms, her floor's common room. It was empty when she arrived, but it seemed...nice. And the television was certainly a plus. So she slumped in the sofa, grabbed the remote, and started to zap through channels, half believing she was going to find any news she could pick as not belonging to her world. It wasn't going so great, so she just settled for a Natural Disasters Special, currently exploring the ins and outs of being caught in the middle of a tornado.

"God knows how many hundred channels this thing has, and I'm watching houses being torn down by wind. Go me."

Raven had her afternoon free after classes and before the Reserves meeting, so she headed back to the dorms. As she passed through the common room, she saw the new face there and paused with a pleasant but tired smile. "Hello," she said. "You must be one of the new students. Do you live on this floor?"

"I do," Raven confirmed. "I am in room 509 with my roommate, Ariel. My name is Raven." She unfastened the cloak around her shoulders and laid it over her arm.

"I hope you are settling in well," she said. "Fandom is a wondrous but strange place."

"You did not come here of your own will?" Raven said, tilting her head to study Charlie. "How did you get here, if you do not mind me asking. Most of us came to Fandom of our own volition, but it would not surprise me if the island calls to people who are in need of a home."

Raven frowned as she felt Charlie's anger, confused as to what she'd done to cause that. "Well then, I am pleased you were not hurt," she said carefully. "I have never heard of someone arriving in Fandom in quite such a manner. You were able to enroll in classes then?"

"Do you wish to return home?" Raven said gently. People who had issues in needing help were in grave danger around her due to her inability to not wish to offer as much.

"There are portals that can bring you back to wherever you are from." She wasn't going to offer to teleport the girl. "When and where are you from?"

"I came to Fandom when there was no where else for me to go," Raven said, resisting the urge to reach out and touch a hand to Charlie. She didn't think the girl would react well. "It has been a home to me for almost two years now, and I hope it will become the same for you."

She nodded absently at Charlie's next words. "You will find there are many parallel worlds," she said, hoping she wouldn't frighten her. "Some are very much the same, just with subtle differences, while others are not the same at all. The students here, and the teachers and those who dwell in the town as well, are from all kinds of these worlds. The causeway leads to one, the United States of America in the year 2011, but to travel to the others requires magical ability or arranging for a portal to take you there."

"I try my best to be," Raven said with a small smile. "I am an empath and a healer, and it is my nature to want to help people."

She settled in one of the common room chairs and studied Charlie some more. "Fandom is not some utopia," she warned her. "There are perils here that must be faced. But I have come to love many people here as my family, and it is more of a home than mine ever was. And the teachers do mean well."

"Why would I mind?" Raven said a tiny bit peevishly. "It is not as if I am going to force you to accept friendship."

Well, she could, but.

Raven really didn't like the random hostility she was picking up from this strange girl when she'd done nothing to provoke it. She found it very strange and very rude when all she was doing was trying to be helpful.

"I have no reason to try," she said stiffly. She wasn't demony at the moment, and Trigon had no interest in the girl.

"I know how you feel, yes," Raven said guardedly. "I cannot help that, it is what I am. But I would never change your emotions without permission, if that is what you are so afraid of, unless you were seeking to do me harm, in which case I would take your anger and aggression to protect myself."
