Magic + Support Reserves, Danger Shop, Wednesday After Classes

Magic & Support Reserves were meeting in the Danger Shop today, where a table of sandwiches and chips -- no cake, not after last week -- was set up near the door. The room as a whole looked like a large, grassy field with a slingshot at one end and a hill at the other. On the hill, smug-looking helmeted pigs nestled inside a complex structure made of ice and wood.

Tara was still frowning at the programming console. "So, uh ... I think whatever the other reserves did in here yesterday got stuck or something," she ventured. "We're ... trying to defeat the round green things. Which are pigs. And there are birds for us to load into the slingshot and use as weapons -- I think they kinda like it -- but if you want to use a different tactic, go for it...?"

If she sounded dubious about the whole business, it was because she still didn't understand the point of this game.

Raven wasn't down with the idea of using birds (projected images or not) as weaponry -- even if they liked it. She regarded the structure with her own puzzled look. "If you have any sort of mystical gift, such as telekinesis, you may of course use that instead," she said. She might have to send her Soul-Self over to knock over the blocks of ice and wood.

"I believe the pigs are supposed to be evil," she added to provide motivation.

Karla was really trying to figure out what the Fighting Reserves had been up to with this simulation. It was just all sorts of weird. "So use the birds--or your powers--to defeat the evil, uhh, pigs and we'll be good," she said, nodding. "Think of ways this can be used in defense of our island, okay?"

"...By throwing birds at an invasion?" Dolf's level of dubiousness was incredibly high. "Do we even have birds we can throw?" Seriously. He was not so sure about this. "Well, it is good to learn about throwing things, at least." He could do that. Even non-magically. "Which can be very useful, and using your environment," see, now we were getting somewhere, "...and, um, using bird eggs to make a good omelette?"

Yes.

Dolf was contemplating the birds. Not because they were weird - he'd done enough staring at them for that - but because the medieval part of his mind kind of wanted to know what they'd taste like...

Cally had not made it to yesterday's reserve meeting, so yes. She'd be gawking now.

Gawking with coffee. "The ducks weren't bad enough?"

Raven had experienced pillow fights and horror movies recently.

Neither had remotely prepared her for the idea of throwing birds at pigs. Human culture was sometimes so baffling.

"Hey, hey." Kennedy had a playfully scowly expression on her face as she sauntered over. "How come this looks so familiar, huh?"

"I didn't break it!" Kennedy objected quickly. "Like I'm good with computers or anything? It's kinda fun, though, huh?"

"I think they're kind of into it," Kennedy replied. "Seriously, hell if I know why. I'm not even asking any more."

Her phone dinged, and she pulled it out to check; a moment or two of scanning her email resulted in a slightly crestfallen look. "Aw, man. Dad can't make it this weekend, and Constance is all tied up with something she won't tell me about."

Karla was utterly, utterly lost. And planning on finding Kennedy and shaking her down for an explanation later.

"Nobody showing up for you either, huh? I was kind of really hoping Dad could make it and bring JaƱe, 'cause she wanted to meet you guys, but no luck." Kennedy gave her a half-smile. "Though, after what you mentioned about the last time I guess it's not completely bad."

"Not by portal or something, it isn't," Kennedy suggested, biting back the impulse to offer to pay. "I mean, there has to be some way, right? 'cause... she totally should get to see how awesome this place has been for you."

She paused for just a brief moment before adding, "Plus I still really want to meet her."

"Getting to see it in person is different," Kennedy insisted with the habitual stubbornness of someone who didn't opt for compromise when the best possible option was even marginally attainable. "And it would be awesome. But..."

She tilted her head and gave Tara a curious look. "Have you asked her?"

...Kennedy kind of knew her girlfriend pretty well by now, yeah.
brat_inslayage: (Hmm)

"Babe." Kennedy-- who had pestered her dad and Constance about it for a week, and enlisted her sister's help in the cause-- sighed indulgently. "You should at least ask. I mean, you do want her to visit, right?"

She was... starting to take on that expression of I might ask if you don't.

Kennedy followed Tara's gaze and smiled slowly. "Except we kinda do, don't we? And I don't think she'd be a really hard sell on the idea somehow."
