3rd Floor Common Room, Saturday Evening

Tony found himself run afoul of the 'televisions hate rich kids' curse that always hit Bruce when he watch television in a public place. Not that he knew that was probably the case, but still...

It was bad enough to distract him from trying to take the TV apart to just make it stop.

Megacroc vs Hypergator.

Only on the SyFy channel would such a monstrosity come about. "Oh, c'mon! I could make a better robot than that CGI!"

[[Open, of course]]

Warren was out and about the dorms today, looking for a distraction. He hadn't heard from Karla in a few days, and generally, when that happened, that meant that there was something up.

At least when something was up, he found out about it in due time. But the not knowing was making him antsy, and it was in a bit of a twitchy state that he wandered into the common room.

And stared.

And stared some more.

"What in the world is that."

It wasn't even a question. It was a flat-out what.

"Why would you want to create monsters at all?" Elphaba asked on her way into the room. She already had an apple in one hand, so she had no excuse for wandering about. She had also decided she didn't need one and it was perfectly her right to wander if she wanted to. Which was exactly what she was doing.

"Are those supposed to be giant reptiles?" Warren had to check, because there wasn't much about them that looked like any crocodile or alligator that Warren had ever seen.

Not that he'd seen many of either, really.

"They're certainly that," Warren allowed, stepping into the room and kind of staring in disbelief at what was on TV. "I think the question now is, mega-what?"

It was some pretty terrible CG, all right.

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Principle to make monsters?" Elphaba said, not quite following. "I would think creating monsters would be exactly the unprincipled sort of thing to do. Regardless of how much time you spend working."

"Yeah, I think I would remember seeing something about these guys on the Discovery Channel when I was growing up," decided Warren.

... Who was stepping into the kitchen with popcorn in mind all the same.

"Is there any particular reason you're watching the movie about terrible CG Mega-things, Tony?"
wwiii: (Curious)

Warren squinted a little at that. That wasn't exactly the sort of thing he expected to hear from Tony, no.

"... Have you tried unplugging it?"

It wouldn't change the channel, but presumably it would do something about what was currently showing on it.

"Who wants to create monsters?" Warren blinked up from his place in the kitchen, where he was working on getting some butter melted for popcorn. Not that he was expecting to enjoy the movie that was on TV or anything, but Tony doing battle with the television might almost be entertaining enough to warrant it, all on its own.

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh," Elphaba said. "So they'd just be creatures, that would look different. That's not really a monster, unless you'd do monstrous things. Which I assume you don't do."
wwiii: (Sincere)

[personal profile] wwiii 2011-07-17 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Staring in horror, huh?"

Yeah, this definitely needed popcorn.

"You know, I think they actually managed better looking monsters with stop-motion, back in the early days of film?"

At least those things had looked like they were actual, tangible objects.

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps I misheard something," Elphaba said. "I would hope no one is creating monsters. I think there's enough trouble that plagues this island from time to time as it is."
wwiii: (Mmmhmm :))

[personal profile] wwiii 2011-07-17 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly like that!"

Oh, that Jörmungandr had been so let loose. And even if the movie was old and kind of really sucked by today's standards... well...

"I think pretty much anything is better than this."

"No kidding," Warren agreed, after turning a little smile toward Elphaba and nodding to his bag of popcorn. "I'm about to make some. I figure, if we're stuck with a really bad movie about giant reptiles on the TV, we might as well have popcorn to enjoy while we groan at it."

Possibly just to throw at it.

"Would you like some?"

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Do people doubt your abilities to make them?" Elphaba said. "I'm assuming these people aren't from school, here. I hardly doubt any claims of ability when they come from fellow students."

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I... is it just popped corn? With nothing added?" Elphaba asked, wanting to be sure. "I would have some, if so. Otherwise I'll have to respectfully decline."
wwiii: (O rly)

[personal profile] wwiii 2011-07-17 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I haven't popped it yet," Warren noted. "I could set some aside for you before I go ahead and add my butter and salt."

Mmm, delicious salt and grease. Two staple foodstuffs for any teenage boy.
