B Movie Marathon, Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday afternoon and on into the night

Today, the table in the fifth floor common room was covered with all kinds of (moddable) snacks. Pretzels, popcorn, chips, candy, you name it. There was punch, of the dubious red and fizzy variety, with a lump of sherbet floating in it. There were 2-liters of every kind of soda imaginable. And there was a stack of pizzas, piping hot and greasy.

But all of that was backdrop.

Because the focus of the attention in the room was the television -- not the normal common room tv, which had been set off to the side, but Squall's giant high-def flatscreen and surround sound system. When you HAD money, you might as well use it, after all. Squall had enlisted the help of the Internet to rent some of the best worst B movies ever made, and they were going to be presented to anyone who stopped by in the highest definition picture and sound quality available.

Scheme 10 From The Galaxy was in there, of course, along with Orc II, but the very first movie hadn't actually appeared on any of the online lists, and it was only by chance that he'd stumbled across it.

On the screen, some sort of asthmatic fiend shambled down the same stretch of hallway over and over. It wasn't scary. It wasn't campy. In fact, the reason the movie hadn't appeared on the internet lists was probably that it was so bad that it wasn't even good-bad, it was just bad. And yet, Squall sat on the couch with a grin on his face, enjoying himself.

Yes, Squall. That Squall. Smiling. Look, it was his birthday, he was allowed, okay?

(Open common room is open!)

Shira was planning on flipping through the channels in the common room -- TV was kind of fascinating to her, after all -- but this plan was solidly changed when she made her way into the common room and saw the TV.

"Mother Night!" She might have been boggling a little. She knew quality when she saw it, even if she didn't understand it.

"I was referring more to the television than the programming on it," Shira replied even as she moved to grab herself a paper plate and several pieces of pizza. "Though the programming is absolutely appalling, too. Is there a reason you're subjecting yourself to it?"

There was a slight pause as Shira processed what he'd said. "Are you sure there wasn't some kind of bet involved?" she asked, wrinkling her nose and taking a bite of pizza. "That's about the only way you'd ever catch me involved with something like that."

There was an odd sort of fun to it, though, but damned if she could explain it.

Elphaba entered the common room with a freshly baked pie. Yes, she'd made one on a different floor, but she'd decided to find people to share it with. It was apple, and of course it was vegan in recipe.

"I... I'm suddenly thinking maybe I'm in the wrong room," she said. "What are you watching?"

"One with someone to help share this pie, but I possibly need to find people with a sense of taste," she teased. "Otherwise all my work will be for nothing."

"Well, fine," Elphaba said, setting down the pie on a counter. "I didn't really want to carry it any more, as it was. So I suppose here is where I'll share it."

She set down the towel she'd been using to carry the hot pie. "I think we'll have to find a knife and plates, though."
