Second Floor Common Room, Saturday Night

After two years-and-counting in Fandom, all Tara had done when she woke up a boy was sigh wearily and hope it was her last time for the ritual humiliation. She didn't like dealing with boy bits, even if it was just for a weekend. But beyond that and a scrabble for clothes, it was a normal day.

Which meant that after dinner, she was about ready to be vaguely social. She printed out a recipe and started working on a batch of banana nut muffins. Baking was a comfort, even if you were stuck in the wrong body.

[OOC: Open common room.]

There were two factors keeping Stephanie from the fifth floor common room: the first being that she was not about to make an idiot out of herself in front of Bruce like this (part of her was still firmly convinced he'd tell her she was being a boy all wrong), and the second that it was three flights further up.

Plus she could smell food.

"Upside to this situation, upside to this situation," she singsonged -- in a falsetto voice one wouldn't expect most teenage boys to be comfortable busting out in front of other people -- as she wandered in, "where are youuuuuuuuu, you elusive ray of sunshine?"

"I'm not a boy, but I play one on TV," Stephanie quipped (it was an oldie but goodie!). "In the glamorous career I only have in some strange parallel universe, probably. Stephanie, and I swear I don't usually look like this."

"I've never heard of a boy Stephanie before," she remarked, perching on the arm of the couch. "But then again, I could've been from three centuries ago when naming conventions were different, so assuming might be bad."

She crinkled up her nose. "Oh, god. Maybe we should get nametag stickers for the weekend, because I can see these conversations getting old really fast."

So for the second time today, Toby found himself drawn to the second floor common room. This time, by the smell of baking.

"Oh, hey," he said, smiling at the guy already there. "Those smell really good." And was he sharing? Toby hoped so.

"Ew, completely bizarro," Stephanie said in regard to the peeing standing up thing. "I lucked out and borrowed my boyfriend's clothes, anyway. This is another thing that goes away on its own, right?"

"Toby," he introduced himself. "And I'm- supposed to be like this. A guy, I mean. But I guess that's... going around, today?"

"Can't blame you," Stephanie said sympathetically. "I freaked out too. The good part is, we can all be weirded out together."

She tapped a finger against her lips. "And find ways to make jokes about it. Definitely."

There were a lot of bad puns just waiting to be made here.

"Ugh, I can imagine," Toby made a sympathetic face as he snagged a muffin. "...There's a fall break trip?" That probably wasn't supposed to be the important piece of information in that last statement, there.

"Oooh, jokes under pressure," Stephanie quipped. That was actually when she came up with her best ones, but that usually involved the kind of pressure with dangerous things flying at her head and people who could pound her into a pulp. "Gimme a sec and I'll see what --"

She paused, and slapped herself in the forehead.

"There is no joke here that isn't horribly immature."

Surreal was so Not Amused. She had to go out for food eventually, but none of her shirts fit. A skirt would do well enough for now, since her pants were also too tight, but this was simply ridiculous.

"Something smells good," she said, wandering in to open the ice-box and see if there was anything she could steal. "Are you normally a male?"

The smell of muffins was draw to even the most stalwart of boys. "Hi," Marshall said, smiling at the guy doing the baking. "It's... not a problem if this isn't my common room, right?"

Someone hadn't really been out for much socialising since he got to Fandom, no.

"If it is I'm probably in trouble several times over," Toby admitted with a shrug. "And since I've never been so much as called to the principal's office, I think you're good."

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Exceptionally," Stephanie agreed. "I feel vaguely more informed about certain mysteries of the world now, but I don't know how rewarding that is."

"Seriously?" Toby had been bracing himself for disappointment, school trips had never been on the list of things he'd had a chance to participate in, but if the school paid for it...

"Before this summer, I'd never even left Ontario," he admitted, sounding a little awed by the prospect.
