Fifth Floor Common Room [Wednesday afternoon]

It wasn't that Daenerys hadn't been thrilled when the raven had arrived bearing Ser Jorah's acceptance of her invitation to visit this weekend. She was happy, even if none of her bloodriders would be accompanying him -- someone had to stay with what was left of the khalasar, after all.

No, her sudden feeling of dread stemmed from the message she'd retrieved from her voice...thing, once she'd gotten it to work. The Imp had promised to keep his brother away from her, but now she needed to maintain distance between Ser Jorah and not just an easily-lost halfman, but the Kingslayer himself. It was a far less easy task, and Dany was left to fret as to how to manage it.

For now, though, she had taken the dragons out to her common area, tucking her legs up beside her on the couch as the three found places on the floor to entertain themselves. She kept an eye on them -- she really didn't want to have to put out any fires -- but meanwhile took to learning how to operate the large device in the room. She knew it was like a small play on a screen, having seen others use it, but the question of making it work was daunting. After pressing a few of the small protrusions on the box, she managed to make it come to hissing, grainy life. Then there were waving lines, with another press. Then a screen of simple blue.

Dany sat before the television, holding the little black rectangle in her hand, and began to try to read what the different buttons meant. Maybe she was missing something simple.

[ah, ye olde 'figuring out the tv' common room. open like crazy, save me from boredom and Dany from static, pls.]

"I normally would say it's not worth the trouble," Elphaba remarked, sitting down near Daenerys. She had an apple in her hand, which she had not yet bitten into. "But something tells me it's a new concept to you, so I won't try and spoil the experience for you."

"That's the best way to describe it, yes," Elphaba said. "Filled with so many plays that it's hard to find the good ones." She took a bite of her apple and chewed thoughtfully. "Though it can be rewarding if you find a good one."

Elphaba sighed, but nodded before taking another bite of her apple. "I suppose it's the prevalent opinion," she said, a little forlornly. "I should introduce myself, though. I'm Elphaba, and it's nice to meet you."

"...distraction from what?" Elphaba asked, forgoing her usual manners. Her curiosity had gotten the best of her.

"Ah," Elphaba said. "I can commiserate on that. I had the fortune of my sister visiting last time, but this time I have no visitors coming at all. Unless my father comes to surprise me, but that would be far less pleasant than just having no one visit."

"...why would one of your greatest enemies be coming to visit you at school?" Elphaba said, again letting her curiosity get the best of her.

Elphaba felt a pang of sympathy, and nodded. "Well, luckily even if he's a teacher's brother, he'll find it hard to bring you to harm, here. Usually this school is the safest place I've ever known."

"As I've only just met you, I can only say that sounds like a very good plan," Elphaba said. "Confrontation can be rewarding, but only if you're prepared for it."

"That is too often the case with people, here," Elphaba said. "But this is a good place to come to, especially to escape home."
