Fifth Floor Common Room, Saturday Evening

Petra wanted to do an orange and black half-moon manicure for Halloween, so she carted her supplies down to the common room and started flipping through channels on the TV, looking for something to provide background noise while she worked and entertainment while she waited for her nails to dry. She found...crazytown.

After a few moments of jawdropped amazement, she concluded, "I don't know who this drunk lady is but I appreciate her commitment to insanity."

Rilla walked in with a baby monitor in her hand, which she almost dropped in shock as she looked at the television.

"What on Earth is that person wearing?"

"It's a costume," Petra explained. "One of many. It's a Halloween special. About...booze and magic mushrooms with dots, apparently." Crazytown.

"Is she quite insane?" Rilla wondered, sitting down and watching raptly.

"Well, that or drunk," Petra said as she carefully painted her index finger. "Or, I guess, both."

"I think I'd have to go agree with both," Rilla decided. "Oooh, what are you doing to your nails? Is this for the mixer?"

Bruce walked into the common room and glared at the TV for a couple moments before saying anything. "What in the world are you watching?"

That about summed up his reaction.

"Both is probably accurate," Petra agreed. "It's for Halloween in general, so I guess yes. It's a half-moon manicure, or will be once I let the black dry and can do the orange," she explained. "That's what the binder stickers are for. It's one of your more foolproof forms of nail art."

"Crazy drunk lady's Halloween special," Petra explained. "It's. Kind of fantastic. Did you know that 'one part vodka' means the entire bottle? Because apparently it does!"

"I've never painted mine anything other than clear," Rilla admitted.

"Please tell me that it's part of a huge recipe that serves a couple dozen," Bruce requested as he continued to stare at the TV. The horror.

"Yeah, that's not clear," Petra said. "It might all be for her the way she talks. She's on, like, cocktail recipe number eight though? So either she's serving a ton of people or she's getting a few people extremely drunk."

Petra stared at her for a moment before concluding, "That's tragic."

Annie got to the common room, stared at the TV for a moment...

"I hope she's receiving treatment," she decided.

"Huh. Well, if you get any inspiration for Monday's party from this show, at least make sure there are nice, soft surfaces for people to pass out on after they hit the punch bowl," Bruce joked.

"Well, my last manicure was rather...sticky," Rilla replied. "But it also wasn't paint."

Well, that was confusing. "If it wasn't paint, what was it?"

Petra laughed. "So far, not so much," she said. "I think we should avoid alcohol at an official school party. I don't know about you, but I don't want to get expelled."

"For the alcoholism?" Petra guessed. "Yeah, I hope so but I doubt it. Someone thought this was fine to put on TV, after all."

"I'm not planning it, so I'd be an innocent victim," Bruce reasoned. "But still, it's nice to know that I'll be able to drink something there without blacking out. And that would definitely happen if you used her recipes."

"Hello, Rilla," Bruce said. "Promise you won't take cooking tips from this woman."

"I think 'black vodka' should be avoided at all costs," Petra decided. "So you don't have to worry about that. Although black food coloring in the punch could be cool..."

"Are we sure that's just alcohol?" she said, finding a seat while still watching in horror. "Because that might be a few disorders all rolled into one."

Rilla looked embarrassed. "Maple syrup," she murmured. "It seemed like a very good idea at the dance..."

"Or dressing tips," Rilla added, staring in horror at the latest costume change. "Hello, Bruce."

"Yeah, but it's hard to say," Petra pointed out as she inspected her nails, trying to decide if she needed another coat of black. "Because of all the liquor."
