Student Group Holiday Mixer, Sixth Floor, Sunday Evening

It was time for the Pride/Sorority/Fraternity holiday party -- one last event before everyone scattered for Christmas break. The sixth floor looked pretty much amazing once most of the flat surfaces had been bedecked with lights, tinsel, and garland. The drinks and snacks table was off to one side, and laden with pretty much every kind of Christmas cookie known to man, while holiday songs played from the iPod that was acting as DJ for the day.

The Toys for Tots drop-off was at the entrance, so people could feel like they did a good deed before getting their mingle on.

There are cookies! And potato chips, and a couple other ~~moddable~~ things, but mostly this is about the cookies.

Kate was a rare example of one who wasn't great at mingling.

For whatever reason though, she was giving it a go today, minus a holiday sweater but with the addition of a tiny, very confused penguin that had been tailing her all day like she knew where she was going. All attempts to lose it had failed, and she'd just resigned herself to it eventually wandering off in despair.

So far, no luck.

Tony did not have a horrible holiday sweater, but he did also have a sad penguin trying to hide behind him. "This place gets weirder and weirder," he informed the little bird.

Firekeeper did not have a holiday sweater, don't be silly.

Blind Seer did have a penguin perched atop his head, though. He was doing his best to look as dignified as one could about the whole matter.

Annie wore a horrible sweater (http://www.buyuglysweaters.com/images/Ugly%20Sweaters%20130.jpg), but please forgive her moment of panic as she hoped she wasn't the only one wearing one.

Whatever, she was going to cuddle her penguin and no one could stop her.

Warren could have gone absolutely nuts with this sort of thing this year, and bought crap like X-Boxes and TV sets and so on. But really, what was a little kid going to do with something like that?

He went a slightly more inspired route, instead, depositing an armload of big, fluffy teddy bears into the pile.

It was entirely possible that Warren didn't actually have an ugly article of clothing to his name. So, sadly, no hideous sweater today.

But hey, he'd managed to get most of his damaged feathers preened out, with the help of a couple of wayward penguins. And he had a date this evening, which, considering the past few weeks, was kind of a big deal.

... Even if she was going to have to share him with a tiny fuzzy penguin that he'd affectionately named 'Bobby.'

Karla could handle sharing. Besides, she had a tiny little Sookie in her arms anyway. She was just happy that they were here, together, and that Warren had gone out of his way to invite her.

Truth be told, though, she was sad she didn't have a hideous sweater to wear. Now that she knew it was a tradition, everyone could expect one under the tree from her this year.

And when that day came, Warren would need to make it a personal mission to teach Karla some good Christmas traditions, damn it.

Like... Something.

"This is a pretty good way to spend a Sunday evening, if I do say so myself." And he did say so himself. He'd helped with the playlist and everything. Heck, he'd even managed to refrain from including that song about the hippopotamus. He was doing pretty good, today.

Bruce didn't have any terrible sweaters and he wasn't necessarily in the mood for a party when he could have been preparing for another overseas training trip. But this might be the last chance to see some people before they left for the break, so he'd put on a happy smile and have a good time.

See? Smile. Good time.

"Awww," Karla said. "And here, I'd been planning on curling up to watch the Rudolph movie again. I haven't seen it at all yet this year!"

She was not going to be able to beat last year's record of twelve viewings by the time Christmas came around.

Hey, Warren liked the classic Christmas specials as much as the next guy. But there was this thing called moderation...

"We'll make a date of it after the mixer," he offered, along with a crooked little grin and a peep of agreement from Bobby. "I'll bring popcorn. We can even string some up and decorate your room if you want."

Or share it with the penguins. Or whatever!

"Looks like you've picked up an admirer," Bruce noted when he spotted the penguin by Kate.

And maybe one day Karla would learn about it!

Karla transferred Sookie-penguin to her shoulder and took Warren's hand. "Could we hang up fairy-lights instead?"

Silly, Warren. Popcorn was for eating.

"And maybe watch two movies?"

Because there was also the movie about a young Santa and a little black cat with yellow-green eyes...

"Oooh, you have a sweater!" Karla said, giving Annie a grin. "Lucky! I didn't know those were a thing or I'd have one, too!"

Yes, Annie. Karla was being completely sincere.

Yellow-green eyes!

"Yeah, that works too," Warren replied, because, hey, he was pretty easygoing about things like that. "Was there anything else I should bring?"

"Just you," she said, turning her face up to his for a kiss. "What else do I need?"

Wesley's idea of fun toys for children was not the average person's idea.

Warren grinned and leaned in to give her that kiss, one wing lifting slightly as though that would somehow afford them a tiny bit of privacy.

And then he was standing back and grinning.

"Penguins."

Duh, Karla. Everyone needed penguins.

Karla scratched Bobby under his fluffy little chin. "Well, of course penguins," she said. "That wasn't even up for debate. We'll have ourselves a good cuddle with a fuzzy group of penguins around."

Except for that one she had traumatized earlier. That little guy was probably half way to the South Pole by now.
