Pride Meeting, First Floor Rec Room, Wednesday After Classes

Petra had tacked up the club's sparkly banner on one wall, and set up a tray of rainbow cupcakes along with a selection of soda, bottled water, or coffee milk on one of the tables, along with a jar labeled 'SNACK FUND.'

"Hi, guys!" she said once it looked like everyone was gathered. "I'm Petra West, and this is Pride. Last semester we had a little bit of confusion, so I'd just like to let everyone know this is LGBTQ Pride, so if you thought it was about lions or just general self-esteem, it's not, but if this isn't the club you meant to join, it's not a big deal, you can leave now or stay if you want to. There's a jar set up on the snacks table, and if anyone wants to throw in a couple of bucks so we can keep having snacks, that would be great, because I'm not exactly made of money.

"So, okay, this week I want to keep everything pretty low-key, and if at any time someone's feeling uncomfortable or like this is not a safe space, please speak up. That said, if someone's feeling uncomfortable or like this isn't a safe space because you're straight and you feel like your straightness is being 'threatened,' you have three options. One, get over it. Two, you might want to think about whether you belong in our Q ranks. Three, there's the door, you know how to use it. That said, I'd like everybody to introduce themselves, give your year, tell us a little about yourself, and you can say why you joined the club if you want to, and then I'd like to hear any ideas you have for things we can do in the club this year, or if there's anything specific you'd like to talk about, we can do that. Okay? Great."

"So, again, I'm Petra West, and I'm a junior from Rhode Island. I'm a Student Council representative, so if you have any concerns you want to bring to me I'll be happy to listen. I want to be an actress; I especially love old Hollywood movies and all the glamour, and I like reading, sewing, and singing. And I founded this fabulous club for us because I'm MTF transgender...which brings me to the thing I wanted to talk about."

Petra folded her hands and said, "Yesterday the cast for the musical we're doing in town was announced, and I was cast in a guy's part. It wasn't meant to be any kind of dick move; enough guys didn't audition, so they cross-cast. But I freaked out first and asked questions later. Anyway, when I spoke to the director--okay, more like yelled at him--he was apologetic and said I could play the part as female, and, I realized, he didn't know it was going to be a problem for me, because I hadn't told him. So I realized this week I need to work on being more open and communicative. And that's my thing that happened this week. I don't know. I just wanted to get that out there." She shrugged. "If anyone has anything they want to say to it? Or not, that's fine, I just talk."

Rainbow cupcakes, rainbow cupcakes, I love you! Yes, I do!

Yes, that was a song.

Yes, Butters was singing it as he came into Pride this week and helped himself to one and felt really glad that he had some extra quarters in his pocket to put into the SNACK FUND jar.

"H-hey, everyone!" said Butters, bouncing slightly and wiping a little bit of rainbow cupcake from the corner of his mouth before waving to the group. "I'm Butters Stotch, and I joined Pride because I was in it last semester and I liked it, and I joined it last semester, 'cause, well, you see, I'm a little bicurious, and I even got sent to a camp once where we were supposed to pray away the gay, and I just thought that wasn't right at all, because that's how God made me, and there ain't nothin' wrong with that."

Speech given, Butters gave a proud little beaming smile and a nod of his head.

"Also," he wanted to add, "I just wanna say that it was real nice of the island to let all of us boys be girls this weekend, because that was a lot of fun. I really liked bein' a girl, and I'd say I'd wanna be a girl all the time, but I like bein' a boy, too, so it's kinda the best of both worlds, huh, without bein' like my friend Eric's mom, who's a hermaphrolite. Errr, which is a-okay, too."

You'd think, after spending several hours of her weekend at an actual Xena convention and then hanging out with Xena for the rest of it, Gabrielle might actually have a clue that she might be here for reasons other than just, you know, being supportive. ~~But it took eleven years after the show went off the air for anything to get acknowledged as canon, so why should she be faster on the uptake?~~

But no. This was just Gabrielle, hanging out and being supportive.

Also admiring the cupcakes in a way that involved showing her appreciation by eating them.

"Hi, everyone," Gabrielle said, waving one elaborately henna-tattooed hand at the group. "I'm Gabrielle, I'm a senior, and I used to run a version of this club a couple of years ago. I'm here because I want to make sure everyone has that safe space that they need, and . . . be that safe space for them, if I need to be. Acceptance and love are things that we need more of in this world, and everyone deserves that, so I want to do what I can to help encourage that."

Really, Gabrielle? That's all? Really? Riiiiiiiiiiight.

...aaaaaand was therefore amazing.

But there he was. Pondering the cupcakes. Mmmmm... cupcakes.

Kenzi put a couple bills in the snack fund. Then a box of Jell-O mix that she'd picked up on her 'trip' to Turtle & Canary.

"Kenzi, I'm a junior, I'm Canadian, I have a boyfriend-- Toby, also Canadian. I work at 'Dite's Decadent Delights on Fridays, so if you guys want to stop by and check out the latest in tasteful sex costumes, videos, books, toys and kinky-shaped chocolates!" She grinned. "I have friends who are queer and questioning, I joined to be all solidarity and find out stuff."

Elphaba had shown up because, well, she'd recently confronted some feelings and felt this was the sort of group she needed to be part of.

She still looked a bit nervous as she tried to look casual and approachable. She was not, however, touching the cupcakes.

"Candy! I'm so glad you could join us!" Kenzi caroled upon seeing him. "It makes my day complete!"

Thank goodness Butters had a rainbow cupcake to not completely ruin his day. He did make sure to give a nice, big sigh, though, to let Kenzi know the trouble she was.

"Hi, Kenzi," he murmured, just under his breath, and seemed to hold his rainbow cupcake a little closer to himself as he picked pieces off of it.

Elphaba folded her hands in front of herself, after taking a moment to fiddle with her glasses. She'd come wearing a heavy wool sweater and jeans, an outfit she looked to be slightly uncomfortable in... or perhaps trying to be more comfortable in.

"My name is Elphaba Thropp," she introduced, a little less overly proud and bold than she would in other circumstances. "I'm a senior, and I come from the land of Oz. I will be attending the premier school in Oz, Shiz University, in the fall. But as for me, I suppose I'm... well, I don't entirely know how to put it in words. But I've come to realize that I have had romantic feelings for people of either gender in the past, so this seemed like the right group to join. It's not too uncommon in Oz, certainly not as much of an issue as it is here. But it's still something that requires a bit of support, and so that is why I'm here. I think."

Considering that even with her own cupcake, she was eyeing Butters', that was probably wise.

"So how many other clubs did you join?" she asked, taking a huge bite of hers.

Butters shrugged a little. "Not too many others, just the fraternity like last year, too," he said. "I thought about joinin' up with the paper, but that would have been a real bad idea. What about you, Kenzi?"

So he could know which club to avoid next semester.

"Anarchy Club!" Yeah, there was a real chance that Butters' would have joined that on his own. Although spying on the frat now sounded like a fabulous idea. Didn't Sam door-guard for that? "And why would the paper have been a bad idea?... You're not eating your cupcake."

"Yes, I am," Butters said, stuffing a whole half of it in his mouth.

And since it was impolite to talk with your mouth full, it was a long moment before Kenzi got any more responses. Butters swallowed hard, cleared his throat, and said, "Anarchy club, huh?"

There was a conspiratorial stroking of his chin that wasn't too terribly subtle. After all, Butters Stotch might not be much for anarchy, but he knew a certain supervillain who was....

"But, nope, no writin' for me. They may still be alive in this world, but back home, my writin' gets people killed, so I swore off the pen, I'm afraid."

"Yeah, we were shoplifting for Justice yesterday. Too bad some people don't have a natural talent for it."

Kenzi watched the cupcake-inhalation and chin-stroking with amusement, and stifled a giggle in favor of watching Tex try to be subtle and sneaky. About what, she wasn't sure, but she'd keep her eyes open.

"Wait, what?"

Tara thought the rainbow cupcakes were pretty adorable. She hadn't had coffee milk before, but she was glad she gave it a try.

Once she was done obsessing over the food, she smiled and tried to look approachable. It probably worked, given the smudge of green icing on her cheek.

"Y-yeah," said Butters, sadly, wishing he'd eaten all of his cupcake so that he could tap his fingers nervously; he diverted his eyes down at what remained. "Y'see, I wrote these two books, and they were real popular; I was the Voice of a Generation and everything! But they made some people go crazy, and this one guy went and shot all of the Kardasians and it even got Sarah Jessica Parker killed, too, but that was okay, because she was ugly. But the Kardasians! I don't ever wanna go back home, just because I know here, my beautiful pudding butt is still alive and safe."

By the end of the explanation, Butters' hand found his heart and he sighed oh-so-wistfully.
