Main Campfire, Sunday evening

For the life of him, Dave couldn't find where his tent was supposed to be. He spent a while looking and for the life of him, he just couldn't find it. Eventually Dave had to give up and made his way to the main campfire, figuring that maybe somebody could point him in the direction of Nonexis Te...

Oh. He just got the irony.

Well, whether they worked as payment for somebody who could point him toward his tent or to help him deal with the thought that his tent might be a cruel joke at his expense, Dave had the basic materials for S'mores. And dammit, he was making some.

[OOC: I promised rilla_myrilla I'd post something like this when the tents were announced. Because of course I did. Campfire is open!

And as far as I know, Nonexis Tent does exist. Dave just can't find it.]

Victor had no idea what he was doing in a tent in the woods.

Well, in an absolute sense he did. His laptop battery was dying, so he was forcing himself to leave the electronics behind and enjoy ... nature.

Never mind that nature, other than the odd afternoon at the beach, was absolutely not his thing.

"Think they're really going to make us stay out here for weeks?" he asked, plopping down by the campfire. "I'm not feeling it."

"Well, they did last year. Except we were in cabins then," Dave said, giving a shrug. "But it could be worse. Could be the whole summer."

"If they made it the whole summer, I'd be back in L.A. in about five minutes," Victor said, halfway meaning it. "But I could do a cabin. How come we don't have cabins anymore?"

"There was some... weirdness at the campsite last year," Dave said. "Just as a head's up, if you see any strange glowing space rocks, don't touch them, okay?"

Victor glanced over to check if the other guy was joking. No such luck.

"Yeah, touching the weird glowing things wouldn't have been my first impulse," he said. "But thanks for the warning."

"Not a problem. Honestly, you'd be surprised how many people want to poke something that's clearly dangerous," Dave said. "Hopefully they learned their lessons."

It was a fleeting hope, he realized.

"I can get in enough trouble without going out and looking for more," Victor said. Though he knew that back home, somebody would have found a reason to poke at the rocks. "What did they do? Make you radioactive or something?"

"Oh, good," Topher said, flopping down on a log near Dave. "Make me some?"

"It turned people into monsters," Dave said. "And made me hide under my bed for a couple days because no way was I going near any of that craziness."

"Come on, Topher," Dave encouraged. "You can make some yourself."

"Absolutely not," Topher assured him. "I give it five days before people start to flee. Or die."

Topher gave him a Look.

"Come on," he said. "You know I can't."

"Not a bad choice." Not Victor's choice, but he wasn't going to blame somebody else for staying away from meteor freak monsters. "They got better? Or did somebody need to take them down?"

"You just put marshmallows between graham crackers and hold it by the fire for a little bit. You do things that are more complicated things than that all the time," Dave said.

Victor groaned. "Probably. Death might actually be preferable."

He didn't mean that.

"Which one are you in? I got La."

"I'm a little sketchy on the details, you know, since I was under my bed, but I remember something about firing the rock into space and that fixed everything somehow," Dave said.

"Um, Billy." Wait, that wasn't the name of the tent, that was an occupant. Guess what Topher had been obsessing over! "I mean, something. I forget the name. Not Billy. "

"As befits my particular brand of genius," Topher agreed. "But I don't bake." Really. Ever.

"It's not baking. It's holding something in fire for a couple minutes," Dave explained. "It doesn't even matter if you burn it a little. Some people prefer it that way."

"Sure, that'll do it."

Victor wasn't being sarcastic; the whole thing was reasonably plausible by his standards, and he'd already made a mental note to watch for glowing rocks. Besides, he was distracted swatting at his bicep.

"I wish they'd sent the mosquitoes into space with the crazy rocks."

"Sure it's not Billy?" Victor asked, managing to keep a straight face. "'Cause that seems to be the name on your mind, dude."

And now he was going to take a moment to be grateful he hadn't, as far as he knew, gotten put in with a couple.

"Can't you do it?" Topher whined. Kind of pathetically.

"Were there any mosquito nets with the tent stuff?" Dave asked, wondering how cruel the school administration was for a moment.

"I can show you how to do it. But I'm going to eat the one I make," Dave said, trying to stay strong in the face of patheticness.

"Um." Victor was about to say he didn't remember, but he realized that wasn't quite true. "There's a screen thing on the tent door, I guess that's what it's for. They work?"
