There was a gremlin on the ceiling fan. Gert didn't know how it got there, and she was quite sure that it didn't want to remain there for long, but the result was that the room was freezing, since Gert's only course of action for cooling the over-heated room was to open the window and let the 40-degree breeze in. She hated gremlins, but she wasn't about to torture one of them by sending it on an airborne version of the teacups ride at Disney World.

And then, with her Macbook in her lap, she sat down gingerly on the edge of the couch furthest from the fan, because she didn't want to risk that thing falling into her lap, okay?
