Fifth Floor Common Room, Monday night

Jessica walked into the common room to find a gremlin laying on the coffee table with a sign reading, 'Draw a Tasteful Nude: $10.'

"You're always nude," Jessica pointed out. The gremlin wriggled its eyebrows at her. So she took an afghan from the couch, threw it over the gremlin, and "found" a strong adhesive to keep the blanket secured over the gremlin for about an hour no matter how hard it tried to get out. "I'm still mad at you guys about the Homecoming Picnic, so you're staying there for a while."

She then made some hot cocoa. She would have some for the gremlin, too, when his time under the cover was up. This was petty revenge, not cruelty, after all.

Of course Sia looked right at the afghan when she came in.

"Do I want to know?" she asked.

"There's a very artsy gremlin under there," Jessica said. "If you want to draw or paint it in the nude, it's charging, apparently."

No, you didn't want to know. Unfortunately, Jessica didn't think of that as a yes/no question.

"I'm immediately going to pretend you didn't say any of that," Sia decided.

"Then you're going to have more questions when it changes positions under there," Jessica pointed out.

"You'd think I'd have leaned my lesson about coming up to this common room by now," Sia sighed.

"I assumed you had, but you enjoy my company enough to deal with whatever weirdness there is," Jessica suggested.

"If I had, I'd probably just call you down to my floor," Sia reasoned. "What is with you and these gremlins?"

"Some girls attract skeevy guys. I attract skeevy gremlins," Jessica said. "That's just my burden to bear."

"As guys don't cause hallucinations as far as I know, I think I'd much prefer to attract those." Someone still hated the gremlins for the woo girl thing.

"It's a coin flip for me," Jessica considered. "But it's easier to get rid of a gremlin. I mean, if I really wanted, I could just grab that afghan and throw it in a laundry chute. If we have laundry chutes."

"And it wouldn't come back with the intent of making you really regret it?" Sia asked.

"Depends on how much it enjoys the spin cycle," Jessica answered.

"Again, I should never come to this floor," Sia said.

"You know you love it, Sia, for you are a tourist to this floor's wacky gremlin population," Jessica said. "Meanwhile, I'm Jane Goodall."

"Who?"

Just be lucky she didn't think Jessica thought she actually was Jane Goodall.

"She's a scientist who lived with chimps for a long time to study how they live," Jessica said. "But she did it on purpose."

"Please don't study gremlins," she said. "I can only promise to bail you out of jail for a bite once."

"I'm not studying them intentionally. It's just the way things happen," Jessica said. "You missed the day they were getting intimate. That was studying whether I wanted it or not."

Sia, as it turned out, had a really good 'ew' face.

"Why would you even tell me that."

"Because it was a good example of gremlin behavior I didn't want to know about but was subjected to anyway," Jessica said.

"And you felt you had to share." Sia didn't appreciate the mental image, no.

"Well, I needed to give an example," Jessica said, defending herself.

Sia shook her head. "Not that one. Anything but that one."

"Sorry. It's the first one that comes to mind because the horror is so great that I can't ever repress it," Jessica said.

Sia did not offer to mindwipe that out of her. It took a lot of restraint.

"You might want to try harder?" Sia suggested.
