Fifth Floor Common Room: Friday Evening

After going to class and doing some work out at the warehouse, Barry decided to take a break and settle in for a bad night of SyFy movies. Settling into the common room, he saw that someone had put out cake and an ice cream bar.

"Weird," Barry said with a shrug but turned on TV in the hopes of finding some kind of shark-themed debacle.

But unfortunately the TV was not cooperating. In fact it would only show one movie series in particular.

"What the fuck is Fandom Chicken? Holy shit. Is that Rikku?"

Barry's introduction into Fandom's sordid past had only begun.

Gwen was already bored of not having someone in her room to hang out with, so to the common room it was... and she was expecting none of this.

"Are we having a very weird party?" she asked.

"Beats me. But someone I know is on the TV and she's a horrible fucking actor," Barry said trying to get the remote to change the channel. "Food was already laid out when I got here."

Gwen looked at the food and shrugged, immediately going for cake. Because it's cake. "It's ours now," she said, and looked back at the TV. "What are you watching?"

"It's called Fandom Chicken," Barry said frowning as he checked the batteries in the remote. "And it looks like it was filmed in one of the common rooms. The girl in the chicken suit still lives on the island but she looks a lot younger there."

"Huh," Gwen said, frowning at the TV. "Any idea why there's a chicken suit? Should I even ask about the plot?"

"I think the chicken and coal monster have some serious unresolved sexual tension," Barry said frowning at the batteries which appeared to be good. He got up to inspect the TV. "Or something. Okay. The television won't even turn off. This is fucking weird."

"I didn't touch it," Gwen said quickly, just in case anyone felt like blaming her for breaking it. She wanted that on record.

"Do you usually make the television play sucky shows?" Barry asked now looking behind the TV to see if the cable was attached to something. "Because I usually do that on purpose anyway."

"I think I watched a Syfy movie once." She watched for another moment. "This might have better production values."

"What? This has better-"

Barry was going to protest but then the coal monster kicked down a pillow fort.

"Yeah, I can see that. "

"Did I miss a lot before I came in?" Gwen wondered, over cake. "Should I know what's happening?"

"This looks worse than Open Circuit," Alana observed, glancing at the screen as she went toward the kitchen. "What's with the guy in the mask?"

"I'm not sure," Barry frowned. "He doesn't seem integral to the plot."

"I think it's just another fascinating night in Fandom," Alana smiled. "Don't worry. You get used to it."

"No. It just started when you walked in," Barry said disconnecting the cable annnnd.... Yep. Still Fandom Chicken. "And looks like that's what's on TV tonight."

"Then I bet he's the villain," Alana advised. "Right? Isn't the extra character always secretly evil?"

That conclusion drawn, she grabbed a nag of chips and waved them toward Barry. "Want some of these?"

"Or royalty in disguise," Barry said with a shrug. He looked at the bag of chips and nodded. "I'll take some of those. I haven't had any junk food in a couple of days."

"Could be worse," Gwen said. "It looks like it could be fun-bad. Plus we have free sugar."

"Yeah, I'm getting there," Gwen said. "As long as no more water falls on me, I can deal with this kind of thing."

She was totally watching the ceiling for water now.

Barry looked at the cake and pondered a bit. "Well I guess one slice wouldn't be too bad for me," he said giving in temptation. "I usually try to eat something healthier."

"Oh, man, a few whole days?" Alana teased lightly. She took a handful of chips and passed the bag Barry's way. "Good thing you made it through."

"Have some ice cream, too. It's good for your mental health," Gwen said sagely.

Alana made a face. "Ugh, the water," she said sympathetically. "The worst was when it hit me during meditation class. Kinda ruined the mood."

She glanced up too, out of her own paranoia

"Ugh, that sucks. I got it in retaliation for laughing at Johnny," she admitted. "But I didn't get it the second time he got hit, so I'm expecting it all the time now."
