2nd Floor Common Room; Wednesday Afternoon

It continued to be weird to not have to go to class every single day but Travis couldn't deny that it was pretty sweet. It gave him time to sleep in and skateboard and do what he was doing right now: sitting on the common room couch and reading a few letters his mother had sent from home.

More fan mail or hate mail. It really depended on the person. Lawrence told him he was still getting the mail but they were dying off so Travis just kept hoping for that. He didn't even know why he was reading these now but apparently, he'd woken up in a good mood.

Of course, the letter calling him an abomination and saying he should back to where he came didn't help much but Travis just sighed and tossed it back into the pile. He left the stack of letters there for the moment while he picked up the remote and turned on the television.

Maybe he'd get up and go get some food. Or maybe he'd stick to the couch and watch horrible sitcoms and the dramas his parents watched when they were young.

Who didn't like Matlock, right?

"Seriously? You're watching Matlock?" Barry said walking into the common room with a serious lack of anything else to do. "Shit, my parents used to watch that all the time."

"So did mine," Travis said, glancing over at Barry and shrugging. "What's wrong with Matlock? Guy's smart and I can only hope to be as active as he is when I'm a hundred years old."

"You going to wear a seersucker suit and fight crime?" Barry joked as he flopped crime. "Because I'd like to see that."

"I might," Travis decided, glancing back at the television. "Guy's gotta make a good living if he can afford to not give a crap about how he looks or what he does. I could probably solve a mystery or two."

"Sounds like a sequel or a reboot," Barry warned. "Be careful. The nerds on the internet get all touchy about that. Especially if you go for a 'gritty' remake."

"Seriously?" Travis asked, torn between amusement and disbelief. Obviously, he still hadn't gotten up to speed with the internet after everything. "Wouldn't they want to see more of something they like?"

"That depends," Barry said putting his feet up on the coffee table. "Do you have a director named Michael Bay in your universe?"

"Maybe?" Travis vaguely recalled hearing the name. "My universe isn't too different from this one, though. I was just...off the grid for awhile."

Seemed like the easiest way to put it.

Barry shrugged. "He tends to do remakes of beloved franchises and ruin them with everything that no one ever liked about the series. Plus explosions."

"Huh." Travis glanced at the television. "Could you do a Matlock with explosions? I'd be worried if someone that old tried to outrun a fireball. That's just a broken hip waiting to happen."

"Oh sure," Barry said. "They'd get a guy like Clint Eastwood to play Matlock and he'd go around being the judge, jury and executioner."

And explosions of course.

"Isn't Clint getting up there in age too?" Travis asked. "Shouldn't he be approaching retirement or AARP or something soon?"

"Eh. Someone not as old but as badass as him," Barry said with a shrug. "I'd say Harrison Ford but I think he lost all judgement after the last meta Indiana Jones movie."

"I think I, mercifully, missed that one," Travis replied, making a face. "Heard about it but didn't watch. I'm more for the old stuff anyway. Black and white classics. They tend to be better and not as in need of explosions as a lot of modern movies are. Better writing."

"I can probably think of some black and white shitters," Barry said shaking his head. "You've never heard of Plan 9 from Outers Space?"

"Hey, nothing's perfect," he said, defending his beloved movies in a fairly weak way. "But, never seen that one. Heard of it, yeah. There's crappy parts of every genre. Can't have the good without the bad. We'd have nothing to complain about."
