1st Floor Lobby, All Day Wednesday

After spending some time with Ada yesterday, Dante was right back to his old self - or at least close enough to fake it. He was sitting in the lobby with his feet up on the desk and a large boombox sitting next to him, blasting a cheap Best of Electro-Industrial CD so loudly it drowned out any music the island was trying to throw on in the background.

Next to the boombox sat a pile of tickets, and the ballot box for prom court voting. Because allegedly he was here to do a job.

He's only a little bit disappointed Frank didn't leave any of his booze behind.

The music's pretty loud anyway, and it's not like Dante will mind you skipping right past him.

"So is it cheesy to vote for myself for prom queen?" Alane wondered, head bent over her ballot. "Or does it just show confidence?"

"Both," Dante said, after pretending to think about it for a second. He lifted his chin. "You can say it's a vote from me if it makes you feel better."

"It does make me feel better," Alana said seriously. (Not.) She marked the checkbox by her name and dropped the ballot in the box. "Thanks for enabling. And I don't get why sophomores don't have a real vote."

"'Cause we don't get to go to the party," Dante said, shrugging. He flashed her a quick grin. "You upperclassmen are the real people here."

"I know, but it's going to be a pretty lame party without the not-real people," Alana said, grinning back. "I swear, half the upperclassmen never leave their rooms. Plus we don't have enough guys."

"Yeah, ton of girls in the junior class," Dante said, peering over at the ballot box. He didn't exactly mind, but still. "Maybe more of you should be inviting more of us."

And save him an evening of aggressively not-brooding somewhere, or at least leaving the island.

"Nobody's asked you yet?" Alana asked, super-casually. Too casually. "Or do you mean in general?"

"In general," Dante said. He leaned further back. "But nobody's asked me yet, either."

He flashed her a grin.

That was the version of Dante's grin that made Alana's stomach go a little buzzy.

"In general you're right, and I call dibs," she said cheerfully. "Dante, do you want to go to prom with me? "

She didn't tack on a disclaimer about it being as friends, because she figured he knew that.

"Hm..." Dante shrugged, shot the ceiling a thoughtful look, and then said, "I'm trying to find a reason to turn you down, but there isn't a single one," he said. "I'd be honoured."

"Cool," Alana said, and was grateful Dante's choice of music was completely drowning out the ridiculous-but-catchy Rihanna song that had somehow started playing in the background.

"And I'll be honored to have what's probably going to be the hottest date there, so that works out nice. Want to meet me there or should we get dinner first?"

"I can always eat," Dante said. He'd been kinda planning to, if Alana asked, 'cause she seemed like the type to care. But right now 'even more time to fill doing something fun' was a big thing, too. "Just don't expect me to bring a tux."

He still had an easy grin on his face, like he hadn't broken out the boombox largely because the island wouldn't stop playing the same two songs on a loop.

The music was all making a confusing muddle now that made it hard to pick out any particular lyrics, which was fine as far as Alana was concerned.

She folded her arms. "All right," she sighed, with feigned impatience. "I guess you can get away without a tux. What are you gonna wear instead?"

"I guess I could break out the corset again," Dante mused. "Though I still have some cash if you've got requests."

Hey, he was easy. Ish. About some things.

"I liked the corset," Alana said as soon as she had drawn it to mind. (Not that it was easy to forget.) "Plus, I'd feel weird about making you buy something for just one night."

She, too, could be easy. Sometimes.

"Then I guess you better break out something awesome that goes with it," Dante said, pulling his feet off the desk and sitting up so he could get a better look at her.

"You're ordering me around now?" Alana teased, looking amused. "I always look awesome. Anyhow, my dress'll work. It's short and white, nothing frilly."

Which made for a pleasant change from Alana's usual dance attire of "short and black."

"Not ordering around, just offering suggestions," Dante said, his cheer slightly more forced - but he could hide it by fidgeting around with the tickets. "Never seen you in full white before."

"I've never gone to my senior prom before," Alana shrugged. "I liked it. Plus, it doesn't matter if I spill punch on it, 'cause I'm not going to try to wear it to the next dance."

Her brows crinkled briefly, watching the fidgeting. "You know I was just kidding about the ordering me around thing, right?"

"Yeah, don't worry about it," Dante said, slapping a ticket down for himself like that made the whole thing make sense now. "I bet white'll look cool, though. With your wings out, you can pull the hot rock angel vibe."

"I wasn't even thinking about angels," Alana said honestly. (Her main association with angels was Victoria's Secret bra ads.) "But, hey, I'll take that as a compliment. Just don't expect me to act holy."

"You? Never."

Dante leaned back in his seat again. "We shove our faces full of steak, we burn up the dance floor, you pick up your crown, and then we bring the roof down somewhere else," he said. "Sound like a good time?"
