Third Floor Common Room; Monday Morning [08/05].

Okay, Fandom. Fandom, okay.

So far, so good. Wayne still wasn't sure if he was ready to trust the fact that everything seemed to be pretty much in order, in place, and in high-definition 3D like it was 'exposed to be....for the most part. He was pretty sure he'd picked up some lox at some point in the event he wanted to mix up his usual breakfast a little, and he wasn't the type to think about doing something and then not do it, and there were definitely bagels, but no lox to be found, but if that was the worst that happened, then he was going to still count it as a net possitive, especially when everything else he needed for breakfast was still there.

Although...he actually managed to get to the common room significantly earlier than usual. Not that getting up early was ever a problem for a farmer, though being here was definitely making him feel a bit lazy about not getting up before sunrise every day. But he needed to try something, and he needed to try it before anyone else even thought of coming in for traditional Monday morning breakfast.

Tomatoes: check. Sugar: check. Shellfish?

...huh.

Well, there went that idea, which was probably for the best, because he was still pretty sure that all it would do was make a mess and that Nina was out of her goddamn mind anyway, and so he put the tomatoes back and grabbed whatever else was needed to make actual pancakes and not crazy Nina pancakes, and you know what? What kind of shellfish was he 'exposed to use, anyway? Shrimp? Crab? Lobster? Did it even matter? Probably fucking not, because that's not how you make fucking pancakes in the first place!

Yes, he was still a little irritated about it. Even more so now that his plan to prove that Nina had no idea what she was talking about had sort of fell through the cracks. It was definitely going to bug him until he managed to get himself his hands on some crayfish or something to that effect...

...so he was already in for a pretty fun week.

Either way, since pancakes didn't require shellfish, despite what some hyperactive little blondes might insist, breakfast, at least, was served.

[[ open of course! ]]

Vette was in a great mood today as she made her way into the common room for the weekly Canadian-mandated breakfast noms.

"Hi, Wayne!"

Someone had wicked schemes afoot for this week. She just needed to find her big squishy boyfriend in order to carry them out.

"Pretty great," Vette chirped, making her way over to see what the meal of the day was. "I managed to find a great deal on portal tickets to Manaan, it's this aquatic world back home? And I'm totally going to surprise Sidon with them." A beat. "As soon as I can find him. I think he might've gotten up early today to go swimming."

... Yeah, no. But do go on and see if you can find him at the beach today, Vette.

"How about you?"

"So far, so good," Vette agreed, giving a pleased little bounce on her toes. "And starting it off with the most important meal of the day, even. Cakes! Made in a pan! That aren't even a little bit flat."

A pause.

"Or square!"

Last week had been so weird for a girl normally made of polys Vette.

"It was definitely something," Vette replied, rolling her eyes as she made a reach for a fork. "I don't much care for having all those pointy bits."

A beat.

"Though seeing so many suuuper serious people stuck in cute furry costumes was kind of amazing. And the bitey bits got to have eyes for the week! Hey, do we have any hot sauce?"

"Thanks," Vette said, and pretty much skipped her way to the fridge, careful to not spill anything from the plate as she went. "Not that I don't like your cooking," she added, quickly. "But last week was kinda all bananas all the time and I need something to really mix things up a bit, you know?"

Ah, there it was, right there on the fridge door, promising her in actual, legible print that it was going to knock her socks off.

Deeeefinitely the island. Vette had been more than a little concerned about how square she'd been last week, and hadn't even remembered breakfast was a thing the week before, never mind being even remotely fluent in the language, and then the week before that she'd been napping off THE HORRIBLE HELLSCAPE FULL OF ELDRITCH HORRORS.

Her schedule had been all full up.

"I mean, I'll never, ever turn down free food," Vette noted, up-ending the bottle over, yes, the pancakes. "It just helps that you're also a good cook."

Vette paused a moment at that, blinking as she set down the hot sauce bottle.

"... Like it's too good to be true?" A beat. "Yeah, kinda. This place has been horrible all summer, I don't see why it would stop being horrible now. I mean, there was that one week where like nothing was weird at all," hello, Vette was very much a virgin and would remain that way for quite some time, "but then there was that other one where we thought stuff was normal and... then... it wasn't."

Guess who was never, ever going into the onsen again.

"Well, I've got my guns on hand in case anything goes absolutely horrible," Vette replied, patting, yes, her hip holsters, because there was no way after things like Rapture or Silent Hill she was ever going to be caught without them again.

She would love to see the school administration tell her she was out of line given the way the summer had gone. Really, now.

"Maybe I'll head out and stock up on more groceries or something," she added. "The portal doesn't leave for a while and it isn't like Sidon and I will be gone all week."

... Well, she was half right!

"Wednesday," Vette replied, shrugging. "I mean, I don't know exactly what classes Sidon's got, but I know nobody really has classes on Wednesday, right? And he and I both work on Thursday."

She was going to be... well. Traumatized. But disappointed after the trauma settled in, anyway.

"But longer, yeah, if things go too stupid. I have no interest in any more of that nonsense if I can get away with avoiding it."

"Right, Manaan," Vette confirmed. "There's a whole civilization of people, the Selkaath, who evolved to live underwater. I think they'd probably remind Sidon of one of the Zora from home? This old grouch called Muzu." She gave a soft laugh and shrugged. "Ahto City's above water, and I hear it's absolutely gorgeous. Some parts of it have trasnparisteel floors so you can see the fish swimming down below. It's not really for tourists, most of the off-worlders that show up there are probably there doing trade for kolto - that's a medical supply - but I think Sidon would really, really like it."

Vette's smile at that was downright sunny. She certainly hoped he liked it, and hearing Wayne say he might... well. It was nice, was all. She worried so much about whether she was doing things right. Having confirmation that maybe she was? Was...

It meant a lot.

"Right," she confirmed. "I mean, I've been a lot of places, maybe I have been to Ahto and I just didn't realize it at the time? But I've never been just for the sights, for sure. It's cleaner than home, and maybe not half as crowded, and that'll be nice, too." A beat. "Plus it'll just be... normal. We can use a bit of normal, go figure the week I get my ticket is for a week that's pretty much that, too."

... This week was gonna sting.

"I'll make a point of it," Vette decided. "Any requests? Weird seafood? A pet? I bet they've got great fishes there."

Since... the whole world otherwise was completely submerged, and all.

Vette blinked, and then winced. And then kind of curled in on herself a little bit.

"Oh. Oh, no, you're right. Of course you're right. Maybe a shell, then. I bet I could get Sidon to bring a neat shell up from the bottom."

S'a bit cruel, isn't it?

Yeah. Yeah, Wayne, she had some idea of what that was like.

"Sorry. Wasn't thinking."
