Third Floor Common Room; Monday Morning [06/01].

Desite Sidon's best efforts, there was somehow a ton of salmon leftover from Nina's birthday party, so Wayne figured it was best get used up quick and incorperated it into breakfast with a new recipe to make the most out of it, in addition to the usual pancakes an' bacon an' other fare.

Plenty of orange juice in the fridge this week, too, and nothing had bothered to mess with the coffee, so, all in all? A pretty good, quiet, regular morning with nothing too disturbing that he'd need to squint at.

Let's mebbe keep it that way, super cheifs.

But Nina was never good at being quiet...

(Okay, that was a lie, but it was one she was going to pretend was true in the dorms.)

Well, Nina not bein' quiet was a bit different than the island not being quiet, because Nina's not bein' quiet was at least expected and typically tolerable.

"Nina!" Wayne stated in brusque greeting as she came breezing in. "How are ya now?"

"I'm fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she said happily, still riding high on a wonderful weekend. "And you?????????????????"

It never took much for Astrid to fit herself comfortably into a new normal, a new routine, and, she had to admit, having the aroma of breakfast wafting around the dorms in the morning to help her get up so she could make it to this one before her classes made this habit particularly easy, as she went upstairs and ducked into the room.

"Morning, everyone," she gave a greeting with sleep still clinging to it, as she breathed in a little deeper to enjoy the smells. "Smells good."

Wayne wondered, for a moment, that, if Nina's mood had been any worse, if there'd have been a word or two about his present. But, as it was...

"Ohhhh," he drawled, as one might expect, his eyes shifting forward again, "not so bad! Fix you up a plate?"

Which he already had in hand by then, of course.

"Yes, please," she said, before smiling impishly. "But, like, what would you do if I ever didn't want one??????????????????"

"Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, Astrid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she said, beaming at the other blonde. "Good morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Good morning, all!" Elli said cheerfully as she came in, a pencil tucked behind one ear. "Happy Monday!"

Elli was, in fact, the sort of person to say that and mean it.

"Figgur something were wrong, more'n likeleh," said Wayne, after he'd taken a bit of a moment to squint and think about such a scenario as that before, nodding, he handed over a sufficiently fixed up plate.

"But that's not the case," he added, with that small bit of doubt that now wondered since she brought it up if it was going to be the case one of these days, "so there ain't no reason to get excited 'bout it unless it were."

Wayne might be inclined to generally agree with the concept of a happy Monday, himself, as a Monday meant it was usually back to work, back to chorin', with sort of a nice, fresh start on everything.

"Elli," he greeted her with a nod both to say hello and to agree. "How are ya now?"

"Tastes even better!" Wayne barked out as a guarantee before he went and gave Astrid the customary nod. "Astrid. How are ya now?"

"Morning," Astrid said, again, with a sleepy sort of smile, contemplating the coffee maker a moment before heading towards it. Sure, in a little bit, there'd be coffee in Kyōraku-san's class, but she was feeling like the extra might not hurt. She'd slept well last night, and deeply, without any nightmares, and so much of her was just still clinging to that rare nothingness. "I see you're chipper as always, Nina."

"Not bad," said Astrid, and it was true enough, though she was clearly the more mellow one of the bunch that morning so far. "Hungry. But that's easy enough to fix. How are you, Wayne?"

"I'm well, thank you," Elli said easily. "How are you doing today, Wayne? Are your cuts healing well?"

Astrid definitely approved of the pencil, and wondered if it was for any particular reason or simply because it never hurt to have a pencil on hand, a sentiment she could certainly agree with.

"Hey, Elli," she said with a faint smile. "Happy Monday to you, too."

Even if she felt it was much to early to really make an informed call on that.

"I could, like, be more chipper if you wanted me to be," she teased, laughing. "Though you look like you might just fall asleep any moment so that might be cruel.............."

"How are you ever going to be prepared for an emergency with that attitude??????????" Nina wondered, taking her plate with a thanks and drifting over to get orange juice.

Elli's smile went a bit amused as she took in Astrid's sleepy look.

"It's a state of mind," she explained. "If you approach a day like it's going to be a good one I find that it helps make it actually be a good one."

Wayne turned his head Nina's way with one eye squinted, one brow quirked.

"The attitude of figgurin' something were wrong if it were an' not gettin' excited about it unless it were?" he asked, because he didn't see what the problem with this tactic was. "You're suggesting....I should have a contingency in place fer if you ever come on in here and don't want a plate? When half the time, more'n likely, you'd just say you don't want a plate just to get a rise out of me, and if it's not just to get a rise out me, then that means there's something wrong, and if there's something wrong, then you deal with the problem as it exists, because you can't predict every little thing that could go wrong, 'specially not 'round this place! An ounce of prevention's worth a pound of cure, but those pounds'll add up."

"Oh," said Wayne, a bit less of a drawl and more to make sure it got said before actually moving on with the conversational bits of his response, "not so bad. And they're pert'near healed up, by now, 'cept for the left ear, and it's not all that bad." He gave her an extra nod. "Thanks to your help, no doubt."

"No, it's be good," said Astrid with a faint laugh. "I've got class, so if you need to be more chipper to keep me up, then so be it. But I think I'll be fine. It's just one of those mornings, you know, where it's just hard to get out of bed..."

But her look toward Nina was slightly wry.

"Actually," she admitted, "I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't know. You seem like the kind of person who just can't wait to finish sleeping just to get out of bed."

It was said fondly, though. Mystified, but fondly.

"I, like, would never turn down free food just to get a rise out of you," she protested.

This was mostly even true. Nina liked breakfast.

She also liked how easy it was to get a rise out of him.

Sorry, Wayne.

"Well," said Astrid, warmly but also a bit dry, "don't let me get in your way."

She liked to think, at one point in her life, she'd have been able to maintain that kind of optimism on a daily basis, but, if she had, it had long left her.

"It doesn't feel like a bad one, though," she allowed. "But I'm sort of more the 'wait and see where things are headed' type, myself."

"I........ can't say that, like, I've ever just wanted to stay in bed," Nina admitted, making a bit of a face at the idea. "I mean, like, even when I'm down and blue and avoiding something, like, just staying in bed just means all the thoughts I don't want to think start showing up and you can't get away from that sort of thing unless you get up and do something, you know??????????????????"

It wasn't as though this was news to Wayne, which was why all Nina was getting in response to that was the most skeptical squint in the world, accompanied by a very 'we'll just wait and see on that one' sort of growl.

And, figuring she'd protest that look and that grumble even further, he swept in with a shift in gears like he was ramping up a molehill on a tractor. "Birthday turned out good, it seems," he ventured, pushing the shift further by turning his attention back to the breakfast at hand.
