Second floor common room- Saturday afternoon

It wasn't often that Sabine gave herself the time to actually binge anything. But she'd wanted to chill for a bit and she'd flipped just long enough to find the Discovery Channel. And then she'd stayed on it. Apparently it was easy to get sucked into watching giant fish be badass?

So she was still here, watching whatever was showing on Shark Week today, and thinking her armor was due for a repaint...

"Anything good?" asked Astrid, coming down to the common room to take a break from outlining certain details of her Roman-Fandom mural in goldleaf for something to eat, sparing an idly curious glance toward Sabine and the television as she passed toward the cupboards.

Great White sharks was probably enough to snag Astrid's attention a little bit, but the follow of enthusiasm had her grinning a little, too. She considered the cabinet for a moment longer, wasn't really impressed, then moved to the fridge where she found a bag of baby carrots and grabbed that.

"Mind if I join you?"

So Astrid and her crackers went over to join Sabine. "Let me guess," she said with a faint grin. "So far, lots of swimming, maybe some eating things, more swimming? Soothing British voice narrating?"

"Did they name the shark?"

She figured, if you were going to follow a specific one, you might as well name it. She watched the screen for a moment, as she chewed on one of the crackers.

"I wouldn't mind," she added thoughtfully, " getting to be a shark swimming all day."

It wasn't a new thought at all, but it was probably not something she'd actually voiced before.

"Deep Blue the Great White," Astrid repeated, as if trying it on, and she smiled a little with her approval. "I think I read somewhere that sharks have to keep swimming, or else they'll die."
white_oleander: (i'm intrigued....)

Astrid was definitely deep in the metaphor of it in that moment, watching the TV, eating another cracker, and thought about saying something about how, at that point, it must be a relief when they finally got to stop, but Sabine was enjoying herself and the program, she didn't need to just come in and bring down the whole room like that.

So she just sort of changed the subject, while also holding out the box of crackers toward Sabine in case she wanted to have some for herself.

"Eleanor and I are going to have a girls night out at Caritas on Wednesday," she told her. "You want to come?"

Sabine was second to the top of Astrid's invite list, of course, but she figured she might as well do it now rather than later.

"Mostly just because," said Astrid, before she added, a little wryly, "and I guess to build me up to be ready to hit bars to find a boyfriend or girlfriend."

Because that was actually easier than mentioning that getting her mind off everything with her mother right now was a part of it, too. Especially since the last time mothers came up between her and Sabine, Astrid had forced herself to leave the room just to avoid getting into it.

"No," said Astrid, with a small laugh for the absurdity of it, but some minuscule, technical sliver of truth made her add, "not really. But I thought," it could help her related to Eleanor more, "it could still be fun.

"I've never really done anything like that before."

"Hey," said Astrid, giving Sabine a rare look of open amusement at that, "I'm the one from the past, isn't that supposed to be my line?"

Not that she'd ever had much of a grasp on what kids in her day did, either.
