The Roof, Friday Afternoon

Surprisingly (and probably more to the Sushi Station's generosity than anything else), Julius had ended his date with Alexis with more money than he'd anticipated. So after leaving Ethics, he'd put in a call for Thai takeout (and had ended up with far more of that than he'd anticipated, too, and--okay, where did the enchiladas come from?) and then headed up to the roof to offer...a lot of food to go with talking?

Maybe someone had heard his thoughts about gluttony in Ethics today. After being a lizard for three months, he wasn't putting anything past this island.

Wei Wuxian flew up to the roof, his arms stretched wide, a stack of small yellow papers in one hand and his flute in his belt. He landed gracefully and waved when he spotted Julius. "Hi! What are you doing up here?"

Nina had sort drifted up to the roof after checking on Foomy--who'd just wanted to know when the first episode of season four was coming out--and Miss Dozy, who'd purred comfortingly and gone back to bed.

It was nice she could do that. Nina envied that, just a bit.

Then, she took a blanket, more because it was soft than because she really needed it to sit on, and her diary, and poked her head around the roof door to see what she was walking into.

Being the worst at remembering his debilitating fear of heights?

"Just having lunch," he said, gesturing towards the whole spread of food he'd laid out. "There's plenty if you want some? And...I dunno. I've never really experienced autumn before, so I figured I should spend some time outside in it, you know?"

A feast of Thai with random Mexican thrown in for good measure?

This island was very weird sometimes. "Nina!" he said, waving. "Please tell me you're hungry? And like Thai? Because it's possible I might explode if I eat it all."

Stupid lack of draconic appetite. Even in his human form, he should be able to eat twice this without qualm.

"I do like Thai," she admitted, smiling a bit. "Though if you got anything extra-spicy, I'll leave that to you, okay????????"

Nina was fine with some spice, some heat, but living with Vette had meant things were frequently spicier than she was good with. It was better to cover her bases!

"I have a blanket and myself," she continued, wandering over to him. "Where would you like both of these things???????"

Julius coughed, ever so slightly at that question. Clearly from his most recent bite of Pad Thai and nothing else. "Uh, wherever you're most comfortable," he said, gesturing around. "I mean, it'll be hard to talk and pass you food if you sit all the way on the other side, but we could probably make it work if you really wanted to."

"Oh, thank you!" Wei Wuxian put the papers inside his robe and sat down to look at the food options. Nothing looked familiar, so he picked a red dish in hopes it was hot. "This is good," he said of the Pad Prik King. "Could use some more chili." Of course, he said that of most foods. "Yeah, the weather's great and so is the view. The height doesn't bother you?"

Nina cast a glance over at the other side of the roof. It... probably shouldn't be a consideration but she thought about it a moment anyway.

If she realized how her question had been taken she gave no sign.

(She actually hadn't. She was out of sorts today.)

"Oh no," Nina sighed, unfolding her blanket and spreading it out on the roof by him. "Sitting next to someone who brought food. Tragic!!!!!"

Then she smiled as she folded herself down, neatly and primly.

Julius had to agree. His usual spice profile was slightly different, being from the Southwest, but he was still in the 'hotter is better' school.

"Uhh." Right right right. "I'm hoping that sitting out here will help," he said quickly. "Where I'm up high but still on solid ground."

THAT WAS FINE! SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO NOTICE! JULIUS WAS STUDIOUSLY PRETENDING HE HAD NOT NOTICED EITHER!

"You generosity is legendary, Majesty," he teased as he switched some of the food around, placing the less spicy foods closer to Nina so she could have her pick.

"You're really working on getting over that phobia, aren't you?" Wei Wuxian asked. "Good for you. I came up here to test some talismans, but I think there's room for us both."

"It's good to be a generous ruler," she said loftily, surveying her options before reaching for the Kuay Teow Ruea. Noodles were about her speed today. "It means people are generous to you in return!!!!!!!"

Her smile took on a faintly abashed, shy sort of cast. "And thank you for this," Nina added, not meaning just the food.

"Err, yeah," Julius said, somehow proud and guilty about lying to Wei Wuxian. "Trying to. You all seemed to have a lot of fun flying around..." He gave a weak laugh.

And then leapt on that topic change like Camden with a hamburger. "Talismans?"

Julius smiled at her and shrugged. "I know it's probably rough not having your brother around," he said, though he couldn't understand the sentiment. "But that doesn't mean you don't have people who care, you know?"

That was still so weird to her, Julius. So weird.

"I guess so," she said, a bit dubiously about the whole thing. "People do keep telling me that."

It would maybe eventually sink in.

"Besides, like, I was okay leaving my brother!!!!!!! I bothered him at home enough for at least a week!!!!!!!" Nina added, "And, like, if I hadn't come back here, I'd have just been enrolled in school there so........ yeah, no, I'm busy here!!!!!!!!!"

"Yes!" Wei Wuxian set down his food and jumped up. "There's something called glitter, have you seen it? I think it would be very fun to- Well, you'll see." He jogged a safe distance away from Julius and the food, then drew a piece of yellow paper covered in red writing. He held it between two fingers and flicked it forward. The paper traveled about ten feet - ignoring wind resistance - then exploded. Loudly. With a blast of blue fire, about three feet in radius.

But it did produce a burst of blue and purple glitter, which rained down around them.

"Ah," Wei Wuxian said, resting his hands on his hips. He turned to Julius. "It wasn't supposed to do that. I need to make some adjustments." He walked back to Julius and pulled out some blank pieces of yellow paper.

Well that was never coming out of...anything. Ever.

"That's cool!" Julius said, giving Wei Wuxian an approving not. "So...how does that work, exactly? What are you adjusting?"

"I know you're okay with it," Julius said softly. "But it's easy to be 'okay' with things, even things that aren't exactly great for you." He shrugged; he'd been 'okay' with a lot of things in his life. "Doesn't mean it can't still suck."

Eleanor did not come to the roof for food. (The fact that she could still move after the mountain of shrimp she ate yesterday was pretty amazing really.) Really she needed the air because she was still holding back some belches caused by the mountain of shrimp.

Still she made an entrance in her ragged jeans, flannel shirt and a large plastic cup that had a twizzler for a straw.

"Wait. People come up here to eat?" she asked. That might put a damper on her shrimp belches.

"That's true," she admitted. "But, like, I really was fine this morning until my economics class............"

That had gone deeply sideways.

Juillenne hadn't been up to check on the rooftop garden since- well. Before she'd made her unexpected trip home last month. So it was high time she did so.

"Julius," she nodded, as she spotted him. "Somehow I'm not surprised you'd be up here."

"What happened in Economics?" Julius asked with all the curiosity of someone who'd once thought, Getting an Accounting degree sounds fun!

"Uhh...I did?" Julius said, giving Eleanor an awkward wave. "It's just a nice day, you know? Thought it might be better to eat out here than in a common room. Uh. Hi? I'm Julius."

Getting an Accounting degree did sound fun!

"There was a man, with ants in his eyes," Nina said, hesitating before she went on. That part was weird and kind of gross but he'd seemed fine with that. "Then he caught on fire."

Nina was kind of not okay with people catching on fire right around now?

Julius darted a nervous glance over at Wei Wuxian ~~if he was still here~~ and then gave Jules a nervous grin. "Well, um. You know. Just out enjoying the autumn air!"
