2nd Floor Common Room, Sunday Morning

With the slow creep of familiarity came... a kind of not-restlessness, a feeling that made Amicia step out of her bedroom with a growing regularity.

Not often, and not far. But still. It was a Sunday, morning even, and she was back in the common room.

She had a bowl of oatmeal, this time. It was tolerable, and familiar, and that was all she cared for.

Kurt was also heading to the common room looking for some food. He paused in the doorway when he was Amicia and gave her a small smile as he walked in.

"Good morning, Amicia," he said slowly.

Still riding the high of his excellent date with Charlie yesterday, Graham was in a fantastic mood that morning, one that absolutely called for whipping up some choco-chip pancakes before he set out to go spend some time with Triumph around the island. So he was whistling merrily as he headed down the hall to the common room, grinning broadly to see some people already there.

"Good morning!" he sang out brightly, with a wave of his hand and a flourish of his cape before drifting toward the kitchenette. "Don't suppose you'd be interested in some delicious choco-chip pancakes, would you?"

Amicia looked up from her bowl and managed a tired smile. "Morning."

Amicia blinked.

He was already halfway done talking when she finally found the sense to grab for the strange little translating-square in her pocket. "Sorry," she said. "What?

Graham just looked over his shoulder at her with another smile. "Choco-chip pancakes!" he repeated happily. "Oh, you're going to love them, they're the best! Definitely my favorite, anyway, and they're always best when shared.

"I'm Graham, by the way," he added, since he realized that he didn't think he knew this girl yet. "Graham Cra--"

It was, of course, at that moment, that his efforts to pull a pan for the pancakes inspired not just the pan, but just about every other pan in the cupboard to come cascading out of the cupboard in in a loud clatter of metal, effectively drowning out the last of what he'd said and causing him to wince at the noise.

"Heh, sorry about that," he chuckled a little sheepishly, kneeling down to start putting those pots and pans back. "Guess I should have been more careful about how they were stacked!"

"Hey, there, Kurt!" Graham swung a hand in a wave with a grin when he spotted the other boy. "Good morning! Would you be interested in some choco-chip pancakes??"

"Breakfast of champions," Kurt said with a smile and nodded towards the bowl she had. "Did you... did you want anything to go with it?"

Kurt reached into one of the cabinets and came out a moment later and held up the brown sugar.

"Oatmeal is really good when you add more to it!"

"Me? Interested in choco-chip pancakes? That would be a yes!" Kurt said with a laugh then gave his friend a smile. "Even more so if these are the famous Graham pancakes we are talking about!"

"As if," Graham reported with a chuckle, as he continued getting together everything he'd
need for making them, "there's any other kind! But great! I'll be sure to make lots, then. How's it going, Kurt? You having a good weekend so far?"

"No, I am okay," Amicia said, with a smile she hoped was encouraging. "But thank you. What are you..."

She waved at him. "Will... eat?"

Amicia watched him with something like-- bemusement? On her face.

And then... a huff of something almost resembling a laugh.

"Choco-chip pancakes," she repeated. She looked down at the screen, but what it was giving her-- didn't make all that much sense, either. "Chocolate?"

"Pretty much, yeah," said Graham, his smile just a little tempered by his embarrassment, but in a way that made it clear that it would take nearly crippling levels of embarrassment to bring this cheery mood down even a notch. "But back home, we call them choco-chips. And putting them into pancakes is one of my specialties!"

There was a moment of preening, before he chuckled a little and admitted, "Okay, pretty much my only specialty, but don't let that fool you! They're really good!"

Kurt smiled and nodded and then gave that question a moment's thought in the pre-Graham moment in time .

"Eggs sound good. Might do up some bacon too!" Kurt gave Amicia a smile. "There should be plenty so help yourself if you want!" Seeing how mealtime in the dorms seemed to be either feast or famine and with people actually cooking, it usually ended up that there was a good bit of food available by the end of things.

"How do you... like the school so far?" he asked, giving a hopefully encouraging smile to Amicia as he opened the fridge with his tail and started getting out what he needed.

"It is okay."

Amicia said this because it was true, and because anything more complicated would involve using the translation tool. She took a spoonfull of her oatmeal and took a bite.

"The oats," she said, "They are okay. Eggs... later?"

"Chocolate is nice," Amicia said slowly. "But. Strange. Breakfast."

She looked down at the device again. She should probably use it.

"It's definitely not an every day kind of breakfast," Graham agreed, turning again to return to getting what he'd need to make the pancakes from the cupboards and fridge, "more of a treat! And I think today is a great day for a treat!"

Would he say that about most days?

Yes, yes he would.

But that was beside the point!

"Thanks! I was going to make up some eggs and bacon, so I can make up a good batch to go with the pancakes if you want! And... Things are good. Will be heading out for some shopping but other than that just another lazy weekend! How about you?"

"Ooooh, eggs and bacon sound great!"

Even with all the food he'd had last night, Graham was definitely hungry for plenty more! After all, they'd practically worked it all off with all the exploring they'd done, anyway.

"And I'm doing fantastic! Thank you for asking! Charlie went to show me around DC yesterday! Have you ever been there? It's very cool, we got to see a statue of this big giant called Lincoln, and there was a big wizard's tower, too, although Charlie told me there wasn't a wizard who actually lived there. We also went to a few museums, and she took me to go have this really amazing ramen, and hse introduced me to gyoza! Have you ever had gyoza, Kurt? They're amazing! They're like empanadas, but not really, but their small little pockets of a dough with a filling, and no matter what the details are, that is probably the most perfect form of food there is, you know!"

"Sure, eggs for later. Can get you some whenever," Kurt said with a nod. "They are easy to whip up!"

"I've been to DC once, but it was on official X-Men business with the team for training, so I didn't have much time to really explore and see things. It sounds like you had a wonderful time. Good food, good sightseeing..." Kurt paused here to give his friend a grin and the faintest of winks, "and a good friend. Sounds like the perfect day!"

She opened her mouth, and... finally realized what little words she knew wouldn't suffice even for the small thing she wanted to ask.

So Amicia reached into her pocket for the device, while talking. "No-- egg. Making."

She let out a huff and tapped on the screen, speaking quickly in French, and holding it up for the mechanic voice to translate. "I haven't seen any chickens?"

And so, Amicia lifted the phone to her mouth, and spoke into it. She held it up. "Are you always this cheerful?"

"Ah, I see" Kurt said with a nod. "Well. Here we get eggs at the store... the market..." he said trying to think of the words that might be easiest for Amacia to understand. "Someone else gets the eggs from the chicken."

He held up the carton of eggs for her. "No chicken here. Just the eggs."

Graham's head tilted, for a moment, as Amicia spoke into her phone in what sounded like a different language. He did, after all, like to think that he had a pretty good ear for that sort of thing, although that was usually for animal languages, not necessarily different human ones!

But when the translation came through, he had to laugh.

"Yes!" he assured her confidently. "Always!

"Well," he amended with a grin, "maybe not always, but it sure takes a lot to bring me down!"

Death, usually, that would do it. And failure. And betrayal was going to knock him back pretty hard in the future, too, but for now? That cheerfulness was pretty in invincible!

Amicia held up the phone and spoke to it for a moment, then held it up. "But I haven't seen any farms at all," the phone chirped in its mechanical voice.
