The Deck- Tuesday Afternoon

It had been a busy but very nice day in Kurt's opinion. He had spent all morning getting ready for his and Libby's picnic lunch date out on the deck. And all that hard work paid off because, so far, everything had gone really well. Lunch was great and the company was amazing as always. So, with a full stomach, Kurt was lying on his back, staring up at the sky, a content grin on his face as he looked over at Libby.

"That definitely hit the spot," he said, giving his stomach a light pat, though in classic Kurt fashion, he would likely be hungry again in a few hours. "Did you have enough?" he asked, because it was no good to still be hungry after a picnic!

(For the girlfriend!)

This weekend had definitely been a lot for Libby, although she knew, in the grand scheme of things, the chaos and stress of helping out at the clinic was nothing compared to what those who had been involved in the fire more directly had to deal with. Still, it had been a lot for her, her first big emergency, and she liked to think she did a pretty good job of it. She felt a pang of guilt for not having gone and checked on Vi yesterday, but by Monday, she was feeling pretty drained, and actually slept through most of her day yesterday, especially since her class was canceled. And today, a nice afternoon just spending time with Kurt and having lunch together was exactly what she needed, and she sighed contentedly as she just looked up at the sky and cloudgazed and idly searched for some that would make for good shapes.

"...maybe too much," she answered, with a little bit of a sheepish chuckle, turning her head from the sky for a moment to give him a faint grin back. "Thank you, Kurt. This is....really nice."

"I'm okay," Libby assured him, smiling a little more as her hand reached out to meet Kurt's, and she gave it one of those now familiar, comfortable squeezes. "It was a lot, but it was good, too, you know? I mean, not good that the fire happened; that was horrible, of course. But I'm going to have to get used to stuff like this if I really want to be a nurse, right? I'm just really glad no one got too hurt; everyone was pretty much cleared by Sunday, so that's not bad at all."

"Well, I don't know about that," said Libby, modestly, though her cheeks were now splashed with the pink of a pleased blush, "but I know I'm coming out of this pretty confident in at least accessing damage and patching up minor cuts and burns, at least! And it was kind of exciting, too. Exhausting," she laughed a little, still feeling some of it even several days later, "but exciting. I'm just glad I could actually help."

"I know in my experience," very limited though it was, "that's been the case. That's what made me want to become a nurse in the first place." She smiled softly, knowing that Kurt already knew this, but it was just nice, sometimes, to just be able to say it outloud, to someone who understood it and supported it. "Seeing someone like that make a difference in my life, and wanting to pay it forward..."

She then just sort of looked over at Kurt, enjoying that they were able to make the time to do this and just to be able to spend time with him and, maybe, just maybe...subtly shifting over, a little bit closer to him, with that blush on her cheeks deepening all the while as she did.

And would you look at that? With Libby's shifting, and then Kurt leaning in, and then Libby shifting just a slight bit more to make her previous shifting a little more comfortable, their shoulders just so happened to, coincidentally, meet somewhere in the middle. Just a shoulder, but when she felt hers brush against Kurt's, it was almost like an electrical charge through her that made her feel like all the blood in her veins was rushing up to her face and all the breath in her lungs was just balled up and caught in there like a bird too big for its cage. She bit her lip a little, telling herself it was just two shoulders touching, nothing to see here, and, in a vain attempt to make it seem like her entire focus wasn't on that point of contact right now, she lifted her other hand, the one that wasn't already holding Kurt's, up toward the sky.

"See that one?" she said, about the cloud currently looming overhead. "That one could definitely be a dragon."

"Your friend back home has a dragon friend?" asked Libby, briefly pulled away from the thrill of touching shoulders. After all, she didn't make her DnD character a dragon rancher because she hated dragons! And in her excitement to hear more about this Lockheed, she turned her head toward Kurt and...

...promptly forgot about dragons, because looking over at him in her excitement really highlighted how close they'd actually gotten, didn't it? Too close, probably. Definitely much too close for two courting teenagers all by themselves without even a chaperone (unless you couldn't the squirrels), so she should probably pull away, that would be the proper thing to do, but her head was swirling a little over all of this and, in an act of wild defiance, she found herself...nudging her shoulder even closer into Kurt's.

"I didn't know that," she added, very quietly.

Oh.

Oh, they'd been talking about something just now, hadn't they? But Libby, all of a sudden, couldn't, for the life of her, remember what it had been, because all her attention was being poured into the fact that Kurt was putting his arm around her, and, what's more, that she was moving to accommodate it. Although, really, it felt almost as if her mind and body had become two separate entities, her body moving on its own accord to just get closer to Kurt while her mind was just left bewildered and baffled and confused and torn over how something she knew was wrong for a young chaste woman to do could just feel so incredibly right...

...and then her body, it seemed, was very far removed from herself, because her body was suddenly not her body at all, and it was at that moment that the Libby so dangerously close to snuggling up next to a boy was, in fact, a soft fluffy lamb, letting out a very confused and very emotionally distress bleat of a sound.

When she was back to feeling a little more like herself, Libby was certainly going to be wondering if it wasn't so much Fandom's doing, as it was a moral reprimand of divine intervention, but, for now, she was just sort of bleating happily as she butted her head up against that hand giving her pets while leaning forward a little to give that shoulder that had so recently been so nice to lean on a few tentative sniffs.
