Not necessarily miss bein' on vacation, he didn't really do well with idleness and vacations and things like that, but he had enjoyed the trip, and decided maybe getting back to the more traditional stuff could be in order jus' to sort of set up the idea that it was back to the old usual grind again.

So there were pancakes and eggs and bacon and what have you as per usual, and that was all well and dandy, but then there was the whole issue with the coffee, and the fact that what Wayne got when he brewed up a pot was less of life-giving bean juice and more midnight matinee horror show. Because what he got was definitely a pot of what was absolutely fake blood (because real blood didn't really look like that).

He sniffed it, made a face, and poured the whole pot right down the sink and rinsed it out (and the sink, too, lest it look like he was up to something decidedly not breakfast related around here), and tried again. Same thing. Dumped that, figgured mebbe the third time's a charm, but no such luck. Which left him to narrow his eyes at the coffee maker, squinting at it accusingly.

"Now, look here, bud," he said, fully aware that he was standing there, talking to a kitchen appliance, "if you've got a problem with coffee this morning, then you've got a problem with me, an' I suggest you let that one marinate!"

This island had put them through a lot of terrible things, sure but no coffee on a Monday morning after a vacation? Fuck a duck, that was just a whole new level of cruelty that Wayne almost couldn't stand to contemplate.

[[ My schedule's a bit wonky this week, so a bit of SP on my end, more'n likeleh, but open breakfast is definitely open! ]]

comments

It'd been a while, after all, since the island went and had to make things a bit...different, and it had been nice, and Wayne would have been perfectly happy to just keep staying that course, but nope. He had to go and wake up that morning as a girl, which in and of itself wasn't a bad thing, realleh, it was just the principle of the thing, it was just impolite to go changing people like that, but fuck if the island cared at all, making people into birds or crabs or girls just whenever the fuck it felt like it.

But, well, it was Monday an' all, so....pitter-patter. He wasn't about to let something like this interfere with tradition, and even though he wasn't even sure if Nina was back yet, he couldn't risk letting all his grumbling about it lead to her beating him to the common room again. His clothes were going to fit a bit looser than before, but they still fit, that was the important thing.

He had been thinking out something to mix it up with breakfast that morning, just because, but ultimately decided that things were mixed up enough already, might as well stick with the basics, unless the island decided to go change that all up, too.

[[ open breakfast is open! and, yes, my main concern here was the plaid ]]

comments

It wasn't every day that a simple Letterkenny farmboy found himself on the edges of creatin' what he could only imagine would be quite the international incident. And Wayne found he didn't really much care for excitement, anyway, so, while he really was going to miss having Katy around, he was mostly just glad to have things go back to normal again.

Normal fer this place, anywhey.

He got up a little extra early this morning, too, jus' in case he had to go and beat Nina to the punch, not realizing that it wouldn't even be an issue this week. Still, he was glad to see the common room empty when he got there, and he set to the task of getting breakfast started. Because Katy'd mentioned it, he even thought of doing French toast, since apparently Nina made her some (and it had involved cabbage!), but everyone knew French toast was just a waste of time, so fuck all that. He was sticking with the standards: pancakes, eggs, bacon, fruit, so on, so forth. And he had something to do, and it was productive, and so he was feeling pretty alright.

[[ if it's breakfast, it's open! ]]

comments

Of, yes, bird!Vette (now an amnesiac princess bird!Vette) and her loyal jelly demon and the maze that Nina had made out of the common room floor.

It had taken her a few hours of drawing to get how to summon that down pat, but given that the bird princess and the jelly knight slept more than she did, well, Nina had had the time.

And it was worth it to watch Princess Ce'na trepidatiously enter the maze of string-trees and origami leaves that shivered in winds unknown to find, perhaps, a way to regain her memories!

Nina was… still probably not the best one to leave people trapped by tropes with all weekend.

"Would the maze treat them kindly? Or would they never be heard from again???????????"

On cue, there was the cawing laughter of crows.

"And what of the evil Miss Dozy, waiting at the other end of the maze????????"

Miss Dozy yawned, so thoroughly over this game. There weren't much he could do about it now, though, except maybe hope that the girls had managed to spread a little bit of it by word of mouth, and trust in the ventilations system in here to take all those delicious aromas of a homecooked meal and spread it conveniently through the halls of the dormitory building. It'd be nice, to have some new faces join in on the tradition, realleh, so maybe he'd have to try to mention it if he wound up talking with any of them through the week, especially with classes and everything.

The fact that everything he'd picked up yesterday that he'd need was still there and exactly as it should be was a bit of a relief, and Wayne got to work, making sure each and every pancake was the fluffiest, that each slice of bacon had just the right amount of crisp, that there was more than enough coffee ready to go in the pot, and that there were more'n enough eggs to make however a person might like 'em...though he felt an odd reluctance to make too many of 'em sunny side up.

And so it was breakfast time, a good hearty meal to get yer day...and yer semester...started!

[[ and it's open, of course!!! ]]

comments

Fandom, okay.

So far, so good. Wayne still wasn't sure if he was ready to trust the fact that everything seemed to be pretty much in order, in place, and in high-definition 3D like it was 'exposed to be....for the most part. He was pretty sure he'd picked up some lox at some point in the event he wanted to mix up his usual breakfast a little, and he wasn't the type to think about doing something and then not do it, and there were definitely bagels, but no lox to be found, but if that was the worst that happened, then he was going to still count it as a net possitive, especially when everything else he needed for breakfast was still there.

Although...he actually managed to get to the common room significantly earlier than usual. Not that getting up early was ever a problem for a farmer, though being here was definitely making him feel a bit lazy about not getting up before sunrise every day. But he needed to try something, and he needed to try it before anyone else even thought of coming in for traditional Monday morning breakfast.

Tomatoes: check. Sugar: check. Shellfish?

...huh.

Well, there went that idea, which was probably for the best, because he was still pretty sure that all it would do was make a mess and that Nina was out of her goddamn mind anyway, and so he put the tomatoes back and grabbed whatever else was needed to make actual pancakes and not crazy Nina pancakes, and you know what? What kind of shellfish was he 'exposed to use, anyway? Shrimp? Crab? Lobster? Did it even matter? Probably fucking not, because that's not how you make fucking pancakes in the first place!

Yes, he was still a little irritated about it. Even more so now that his plan to prove that Nina had no idea what she was talking about had sort of fell through the cracks. It was definitely going to bug him until he managed to get himself his hands on some crayfish or something to that effect...

...so he was already in for a pretty fun week.

Either way, since pancakes didn't require shellfish, despite what some hyperactive little blondes might insist, breakfast, at least, was served.

[[ open of course! ]]

comments

He didn't care for the whole getting lost thing whenever he wanted to go somewhere, and he felt sort of bad kicking the asses of critters not even half his size, but, look, you don't go around trying to kidnap people and drag them into sewers and not expect to get your asses kicked because of it. You just don't, so he didn't feel that bad about it at the end of the day.

He was, however, glad to see at least the food in the fridge hadn't been messed with this week, so he could set about making his usual breakfast to start the week with. Because, no matter what wound up happening by the time Friday rolled around, at least Monday morning could be nice and normal, dependable and expected.

It was the little things in life that counted, after all.

[[ open breakfast is open, of course! ]]

comments

It seemed good enough, anyway, to indicate that he'd at the very least have a good Monday, and he figured, around here, that was pert'near all you could ask for.

He wound up with another Monday without classes for this session, too, so he was ready to get up, check his fights on hockeyfights.com, and then get at 'er, sticking with the usual breakfast fare of pancakes and eggs and bacon and coffee and juice because, 'round here, it felt good to just sort of stick with something consistent when you could, since who knew what he'd have to go and improvise with the next week?

So far? Really, with the way her head was changing shape and the somewhat unexpected new dental situation, she was starting to look more like a Twi'lek male when she looked in the mirror, if not for the horror eyes situation, and the fact that her ear cones were remaining cones, hooray.

Anyway, the solution to today's frustration (it was even frustrating that she only felt frustrated, that she couldn't find it in her to panic about this, but at least she was able to think, wasn't necessarily having a repeat of the vampire situation and that hadn't been permanent) was clearly to go rummaging through the fridge, head-tails twitching angrily behind her, looking for the biggest, most raw-looking slab of meat she could find.

... An entire package of bologna would do. Nobody mind the snarling grey Twi'lek furiously gnawing her way through that while trying to find something she actually wanted to watch on the television this morning. Really.

[OOC: Open! There had been classes, work, visits to her boyfriend at work, and, oh yes, secretly and frantically organizing a surprise birthday party for Nina. Sidon and Prompto had been tapped in for getting-supplies-and-decorating duty with Prompto portalling to Mainland 1.0 to get a proper cake and decorations. Nuclear wastelands, after all, were a little slim on party supplies.

Vette, meanwhile, was going to use that fact to her favor after sending out a text to basically the whole student body (minus Nina) announcing the where and when and why of the party in question. She cornered Nina before she could venture into the common room, and then presented her with one of the cookies liberated from her snack drawer, with a candle on it.

Since, you know, nuclear wastelands didn't really have cake.

There had been a cute little birthday song that Vette made up on the fly (she'd had Miss Dozy assist in singing it, which mostly meant waving a little naked cat around in the air while singing about getting older but no more mature), and then Vette had gasped.

"Nina! I forgot the milk!"

You couldn't have a birthday cookie without milk.

And that was how Vette managed to drag the birthday girl to the common room for a surprise party, wasteland or none.

[OOC: Post open for all students! It just seemed impolite; get your shit together, island. Clean it up.

The cabinets didn't seem to fare much better, though he did find a few bags of potatoes and an exorbitant amount of potatoes (not very good potatoes, really, they were some of the saddest potatoes he'd ever seen, but they'd do) and canned gravy in there.

And if a good old Canadian country boy like himself couldn't make do with potatoes and gravy (and some mystery meat, too), well, then, he might as well just turn in his citizenship right now, pack up, and move on out to El-Laaaay to go eat tah-cos and go hiking, fuck.

[[ /monday spam! This would be his third week in a row; he felt that made it an official tradition, and he had no intention of fucking with tradition. Since Vette missed it last week, crepes were back on the menu, with all the fixins, as well as the eggs and sausage and bacon and all that other good stuff as one might expect out of a nice breakfast like this.

Sure, there'd been that brunch yesterday and all, but who ever really got sick of breakfast food in the morning, anyway? Not that he'd been expecting much, considering he didn't have anyone's Facebook (and fuck Facebook, anyway), and the talking cat had suggested he make flyers if he wanted to let people know, but fuck if he was going to make flyers. He was just going to head out into the woods, maybe get a bonfire going at that old camp ground he remembered passing during his quote-unquote-Wilderness class, have a couple beers, a couple smokes, and if that was it, well, then, that didn't seem like a bad night. If anyone else happened by with pert'near the same idea, then that would work, too.

Not good bush party weather, though. Not good weather for anything much but crops, realleh, but if Wayne was going to allow himself to be cooped up inside for much longer, he was going to get a little stir-crazy. Seemed to be space enough out here on the deck where he could stand underneath something and have a dart without getting wet, though, so that was good enough for him.

Not much to do, realleh, but there was fresh air. Wayne figured he was getting settled into this new place well enough, though the whole island was pretty strange and a little fruity-loops. Worst of it all, though, was the complete lack of things to do. Wasn't used to not having things to do, not even on Sunday, as his family was never particularleh religious (who's got that kind of money?). But he did get a chance to check out the town; even without the castle, it was pretty surreal, and odd that it was somehow smaller than Letterkenny.

No chores. No planting. No nothing. And then he didn't even have any workshops until Tuesday. Fuck. What was he going to do with all this free time? Didn't much care for that. Free time.

Know what he could do, though? He could make breakfast. And not just some toss some flakes in bowl and hit it with some milk breakfast, but a real hearty farmhouse kinda breakfast. Had a decent kitchen in the common rooms, by the look of it, might as well make good use of it. Good selection of food and produce at the general store, got himself everything he needed for a good helping of eggs and bacon, pork sausage and hash browns, fresh fruit, mix up some batter for pancakes with some real maple syrup...

No French toast, though. French toast was just a waste of time.

Good way to start the week, really, and not a bad way to make an impression by feeding people, either.

Breakfast was on. Come an' get it.

[[ open open open, of course there's plenteh! ]]

comments

And it was there that he happened upon a curious looking hatchling that almost appeared to be Zora, except he was clearly also very much not. Whatever he was, though, he had situated himself in front of the coffee table in front of a large plate of frozen fishstick, surrounded by every single bottle of hot sauce that Sidon could only assume had been previously in the refrigerator. The little one looked very intently down at the plate for a moment before grabbing a bottle, turning it over, and very liberally adding it to the food before taking a bite, humming thoughtfully as he chewed, and then shrugging and going to add more from another bottle.

Until he noticed Sidon standing there, anyway, at which point he turned his head, blinked, and then let out a laugh. "Oh, hello, Father!" he said. "You've shrunk!"

Sidon blinked, realized he'd heard that exact same sentiment from a small blue Zora that bore an eerie resemblance to his sister about a year ago. And now he was hearing it from a small blue not-quite-Zora, with headfins that didn't quite seem like headfins, but now, as he got a closer look at them, certainly did seem to resemble lekku, questing through hot sauces diligently despite none of them seeming to be nearly hot enough.

Sidon was capable of some rather large grins, but it would be difficult to beat the one that spread on his face just then. "Marvelous!" he said, and then he laughed. "But I assure you, little one, it is not I who have shrunk, but rather you who have found yourself a bit back in time. Allow me to join your repast; I have a plethora of questions that I must ask of you, and then we shall go and find your mother. I'm sure she will be absolutely delighted to meet you!"

....delighted might...not exactly be the word, there, Sidon.

But they'd clearly cross that bridge when they came to it.

[[ open common room is so, so, so open! ]]

comments

Posted by: white_oleander

So the idea had been tossed around between Astrid and Sabine about a potential random party on the sixth floor, because why not, and there was apparently a party-a-month quota to be met. Monday might be a weird day for a party, but it wasn't like this place held to a tradtional sort of school schedule, and Mondays were usually the days that Astrid needed something like this, anyway, since she actually did wind up with more of a traditional sort of school day. It actually hadn't been too bad this week, though, and she didn't think looking forward to the party had anything to do with it. Because, if she was honest, she was feeling more apprehensive than excited.

She supposed, if no one showed up, and it was just her and Sabine vegging out on all the Chinese food they'd gotten (this time with egg rolls, and plenty of fortune cookies), looking at and admiring the art on her tarot cards, well, then, that would be fine by her, really. But, since she didn't know how well she could depend on that weird thing that happened when people just knew where to find the food when it arrived at the doors, she had <strike>oh-so-handwavily</strike> made up little individual cards, a hand-painted tarot face on one side, and the simple words "Monday Night, Sixth Floor" on the other.

Mysterious. Enigmatic. Probably the source of disappointment for at least a few people when they followed the cards and discovered it was just some half-assed party, but, hey, it got the word out, and Astrid had enjoyed spending the weekend making them. It wasn't like she was plannning on doing anything but drawing and painting, anyway.

She was also wearing her mother's white kimono, laying a cloth over a short coffee table, and laying out her cards with a bit of trepidation and regret. She probably could have gone back on the idea that she'd offer to read the fortune of anyone who was interested, but, at the same time, she was a little curious as to how it would go, and it wasn't ike many people were likely to show up, anyway....

[[ small ocd <strike>incoming</strike> is up! open party is open! ]]

comments

She'd made her way into her room, muffled a frustrated scream into a pillow, and had let the siren call of the sugar crash sweep her away, laying there face-first on her bed, fully clothed and everything.

And so, when she'd woken up this morning, she at least had fewer problems than she otherwise could have had. Getting out of bed had been an adventure that had mostly consisted of climbing down the bedsheets. Getting out of the room had involved enlisting one of the squirrels as a guide through the walls with promises of a whole bottle of rum just for him whenever she was capable of lifting her wallet again. And, once she got into the common room...

She stood on the floor, staring up... and up... and up at the fridge, the tiniest Twi'lek to have ever graced the dorms with her presence, small and insignificant in the face of the impenetrable ziggurat looming before her.

"I HATE THIS PLACE!"

[OOC: Open!]

comments

The place was much bigger on the inside than she would have guessed from the outside (except the sixth floor, which was for some reason tiny). The attics had clearly been neglected for awhile, which made them extra interesting to Mae, and she even discovered an observatory at the far end!

There were always so many fun little places to explore, if you looked hard enough. Most people didn't -- maybe because the fun little places frequently had various little critters living in them. Like that green one that went scurrying right at her when she stepped back out of the observatory, teeth bared and aimed for her leg.

She caught it -- somehow, miraculously -- by the back of the neck, and held it aloft.

"Oh my god. Perhaps it was just what happened when you were the product of a war-torn world; his memories of the Calamity were fuzzy, it was true, but there was no denying that he's lost a great deal. All of Hyrule had, and they'd spent decades just trying to rebuild. So new life was precious; every new soul made the hope for the future that much stronger. So he took it seriously, even if he knew deep down it wasn't real. It made him feel better, like he was doing something good, anyway.

Besides, he'd kind of grown a little fond of little Steelquake Hazelburp Gentletoes the Third from the moment he discovered she wouldn't potentially kill him from electrical shock. And in the last twenty four hours, she had quickly become the most spoiled robot baby probably to ever be assigned to a student at this school. He couldn't help it! He wanted to make sure her every little need was met (and not just because the wailing sound they made was really quite terrible). And it wouldn't all be a waste, either, since he planned to ask Miss Syndulla and Mr. Jarrus if they knew of any places on the mainland where he could donate all of Steelquake's things once the assignment was over, so they could then go to another child who might be in need.

He's even taken some time to study up on how humans raised their children, generally, which was a rather broad category, it turned out! But, since he was the parent here, he wanted to make sure she had a good solid Zora upbringing in their short time together, too. And that meant being reared communally, which was why they were going to be spending their time in the common room today, where could set down some blankets and pillows for Steelquake, surrounding her with many of the toys he'd picked up for her, especially the stuffed animals, especially all the ocean themed ones, the fish and the sharks and octopi and crabs, and he certainly hoped Steelquake would have a great love for stories, because stories was what she was getting, eagerly and boldly told with the sea critters dancing in front of her as they became the actors for the marvelous tales he was weaving.

And though it obviously kept her quiet and entertained, it was pretty clear which one of them was enjoying it more.

Spoiler alert: it wasn't Steelquake Hazelburp Gentletoes the Third.

[[fun fact: if you look up the word 'extra' in a Hylian dictionary, it just takes you to a big ol' picture of this guy. Open common room is open!]]

comments

She wanted to stay out and about and talk to people, experience the world out of the sea and ask them so many questions, so they worked out a compromise: they'd return to the 'dorms,' as he called them, but they could still stay outside, where hopefully she would meet other people and learn all about them and ask all of her burning questions.

In the meantime, her prince was not nearly as helpful as she would have hoped, as she strung out her endless series of questions between excited, snuggling embraces, adoring little kisses, running her fingers through his soft hair. It was kind of cute, actually, he seemed so embarrassed, but why would he be? He'd broken the curse, clearly they were destined to be together, there was nothing to be embarrassed about! And she did love listening to him, talking about this thing called 'jogging' that he did when she asked about going for long walks, and about food, and animals, and the school, and everything, really.

And so there they were, one large Zora prince thinking he was a very small mermaid princess, clinging adoringly and admiringly to a poor small blonde boy who had clearly resigned himself to his fate and was just praying that the effects of a gremlin bite didn't last too long. Maybe, he hoped, since Sidon was so big, it wouldn't effect him as much? Only time would tell, time which seemed to be stretching out awfully slowly as he tried to laugh it off and play along, and not just die of embarrassment before this was all over.

[[ it's probably a bad idea to post this as soon as I'm about to head into work, but I couldn't not. So totally open, as a deck is wont to be! Vette thread obviously last! ]]

comments

And once she got to the sixth floor, a floor she wasn't even sure she'd realized they had, she found a party set up. There was food, there were drinks, there was music going, there were even vaguely partyish decorations strung up.

But no one was here, and she looked around before getting out her phone and sending a group text to the dorms: Did someone throw a party on the sixth floor and forget to tell anyone? Because there's one waiting up here.

So, maybe she'd wait for people and see if they knew what was up? And anyway, there was free food and drink, so she went to grab a soda, and spotted a familiar symbol on a cap. "Hey, this is mine."

[I Never party! No rain here, it would seem, though he wished there was. It would help him to feel a little bit better if the weather matched his mood a little better. He tried not to so morose, he had hoped his class earlier would distract him well enough, but it was not meant to be. He was having those dreams again, the ones that surfaced every so often, but not so much while he was here except directly after a trip home. Dreams of his sister, but there was...something else there, too, that he couldn't quite place, that was very different from normal, almost a longing, a calling...and he wasn't sure what to make of it. He didn't feel necessarily bad, either, and he almost always felt a sense of doom when those dreams visited him. This time, it was almost a reassurance, like someone was telling him not to be worried, that it would all be okay.

Very strange, indeed.

Going for a swim, it seemed, only seemed to make him remember more, and whatever it was he felt like searching for certainly wasn't there, either. He decided perhaps to settle for a while on the deck, hope a distraction came in the form of other people passing to and fro from the dormitory, and, in case that hope failed, in the pages of an Earth book relevant to his interests to try to work through to pass the time, half-wondering what it could all mean.

[[ oh, lordy, work is testing me today! Open deck is open! ]]

comments
