Open Door
Grissom sits at his desk in his dorm room, scratching out a birthday card to Sara.
Happy Birthday. From - Grissom.
Happy Thirty-...ummm, shit.
Sorry about almost getting you blown up yesterday. Happy Birthday, Gil
Merriest of...
He takes off his glasses, and throws the paper in the trash. His door is open for students to stop by.

Grissom gives him a look that reads - I am midly curious as to what you are up to, but I can't summon up enough energy to care enough to ask.

He gestures to Angelus for him to sit down on the sofa.

Grissom is a little too excited about his racing cockroaches.

Grissom motions for Angelus to follow him, and points through the open bathroom door with his hand.
"They're beautiful aren't they?" He gives Angelus a blissful smile. "Don't get in much roach racing in Fandom, I'm afraid."

"I am of the belief that we all have many characteristics in common with the insect world. Those are hissing cockroaches from Madagascar. Quick, efficient, fascinating creatures."

Grissom gets up and takes a small textbook from the shelf, handing it to Angelus.
"Here is a small volume on the species (http://www.uky.edu/Agriculture/Entomology/entfacts/misc/ef014.htm) if you have an interest in their behavior. Pay specific attention to the mating section, you should find it fascinating."
He pauses and gives Angelus a smile, "However, I don't think you came by to talk about cockroaches, did you?"

Grissom trails off, looking grim.

Angelus shook his head. "No, I meant I could use the experience of someone who is a doctor. See, I wanted to send a little gift to somebody in the clinic who was really nice to me, but I was worried it would come off, you know, bad. Figured I should check with you first, make sure I'm making the right impression."

That sounds like a very nice gesture. Why are you concerned it would come across badly?"

"That's true, Angelus. Why don't you tell me a little about this girl, and what you are thinking of sending her. And if you say scythe, sword, or machete..."
Grissom's face is bright, he's obviously teasing a little bit.

"I talked to my friend Johnny who also works the clinic. He said that something to help pass the time between patients might work. Like puzzles or magazines. Do you - " Angelus gave him a hopeful look " - do you think that'd be okay?"
no subject
"That sounds like a very thoughtful idea. How do you plan on delivering this gift to her?"

Grissom's inner monologue: Don't do it Gil. Don't get more involved in this kid's life. You, giving dating advice? That's like Pol Pot teaching a human rights seminar. But maybe you can help keep him out of trouble, and that will be good for him, good for you, and good for Sara. Oh my God, I can't believe this.
"Are you, interested in this girl?" Grissom asks, with a barely noticeable cringe.

Grissom rubs his neck, not at all surprised he has managed to screw up with this kid already.
"What I meant was, I think you have the right attitude. I'm sure Miss Cuddy, you said?, will appreciate the gesture."

Grissom's inner monologue: Swell? This is the kid who was screaming at Sara? Is he dissociative? Maybe he was just having a hard time fitting in. Give him a break, you need to learn how to do that.
"I'll see you next class."

Oh, and don't do drugs. That was my teacher-ly advice. See, I'm not such a bad high school teacher after all."
Grissom returns Angelus' friendly grin.
"Good luck."
