It's been a rough day.

Not wanting to beat things up for once, and not wanting to run into anyone she knows in town (especially since she knows John is there), Aeryn decides to go for a walk on the school grounds.

Aeryn debates asking how he got here, then remembers where she is and decides it isn't important. "Is it strange?" she asks. "Being around all these people who are completely not from your world?"

"Yes, it's very strange," he answers. "When I was told a sojourn here would broaden my horizons, I confess I never anticipated they would have to become quite this broad! The notion of people from other worlds doesn't yet rest well with me, though I am making an effort. Is it less difficult for you?"

Aeryn considers that for a moment. "Yes and no. I barely understand half of what's being told to me, but at least i understand the people. Maybe," she says, and then downgrades that to, "No, not really, actually. I guess some things are the same everywhere."

Archie finishes his letter and lays it on a rock to dry. "It's mostly the machinery and these odd 'technology' things," he admits. "Almost everyone here seems to take them in stride, but they're so foreign to me. In my time we would never even have dreamed of such things being possible, and yet they're so commonplace." He scratches at the back of his neck and admits bashfully, "I have yet to get the measure of this 'voicemail' system everyone is using."

"That took me a while, but I finally got it," she says, sitting next to him. It's hard not to be pleased with herself when she can figure out something like that on her own. "There are the phone things, because these people don't understand how to put together a proper comm system as far as I can tell, and you record a message into this machine, and people call you all day, and then you use the phone to hear them. It's primitive. I don't see why it was so difficult for me."
