Inside Room 213... (open thread)
Joan is staring at the ceiling from her perch on the floor, boredom evident on her face. She could be out socializing or whatever her parents wanted her to do when they sent her here, but it looked like if you weren't into drinking or old 70s game shows you were pretty much out of luck tonight. Alanna was gonna show up soon, though, with chocolate and cards.
And after a week living in a town with no grocery store, Joan wanted the chocolate almost as bad as she wanted some sort of amusement that didn't involve alcohol or polyester.
"Come on, Alanna," she muttered to herself quietly. "I'm so bored!"

I'm kind of amused that basic foods, cards, and games are the same no matter which world you're in. And it's pretty easy, so long as you're not putting money down.
((ooc: Sure, that'd be great.))
no subject
Joan grins and shrugs sheepishly.
Easy is good. And I don't think I have any money to put down, so I don't need to worry about that.

She deals Joan and herself the cards and laughs.
Typically, I'm playing cards with the Crown Prince, King of Thieves, and Prime Minister's son. Money has a tendency to get very large.
no subject
Joan looks down at her cards and rolls her eyes.
So what am I supposed to do here? And you better not expect any betting now - I don't bet when I know someone else is gonna win. And like I said, I suck at cards. Only play them when I'm babysitting.
no subject
Thankfully, no one trusts me with their kids. Afraid I'd bite their heads off or something. Well, you want your hand to be as high as possible, so you can toss out two cards and get two new ones. Who ever has the highest hand wins.
Pops another chocolate into her mouth. I shoulda brought something to drink.

I get along okay with kids, I guess. Sometimes. I babysat at home for awhile, but it's hard. There was this kid, Rocky, and he ended up dying. I only watched him a few times, but it sucked.
Joan laughs and grabs another chocolate. Cally and I keep some water in here, but that's pretty much all, I think. Want some?

Someday, an advance civilization will finally figure out what the perfect currency is. She pauses for a dramatic effect. Chocolate!
Oomph, that must have been bad. Any death I think is hard. We don't have a lot of children over at the palace. Page's enter service at eleven. Young ladies are introduced to the court in their teen's.
And yeah, I'll take the water, chocolate's are making my jaw stick together.
no subject
Wow. They enter service at eleven? But they're just kids then! Isn't that horrible for them?
Joan gets up and reaches into the mini-fridge she shares with Cally, pulling out two bottles of water. She tosses one to Alanna.

She giggles along with Joan. Chocolate rivers, yum. And that's what that thing is for, I was wondering. She indicates the fridge with her head.
no subject
Oh! The fridge? Joan looks over at it momentarily. It's to keep food cold and to make sure stuff doesn't go bad. Like - well, right now I think all we have in there is water, bread, and butter. The last two are my roomie's. She loves toast.
no subject
Ah, so, like an ice box? Useful. Do you know anywhere in town where I can buy some normal food? I'm not the best cook, and um, well, that's an understatement, but I think I can make something better then what they try to pass as food in the cafeteria.
Alanna snorts. Toast is campaign food usually, I find it hard to imagine someone actually liking it.
no subject
Joan bursts into laughter. Ha! I don't think so. There's bars and strip clubs but not a single grocery store, as far as I can tell. I made Grace send me food from home, but it hasn't gotten here yet. So I've been eating out. With all the weird stuff in the cafeteria, I'm never eating there.
Oh, Cally does. A lot. I think it's because toasters hate her and committ suicide or something when she gets near them, so she doesn't eat it a whole lot. I'll eat it if there's jelly involved, but otherwise...
no subject
Toasters commiting suicide...there's not something you hear everyday. Grace? A friend of yours? You said you have two brothers, so I assume she's not a sibling.
no subject
Grace is one of my best friends from home. She's also dating my geeky brother, but I'll forgive her.
no subject
If someone was dating my geeky brother, I'd have them checked for mental illnesses. Or spell work.
Blown up toasters...wow. My roommate is missing, I think. I haven't seen her since the day we moved in. Her stuff is just sitting on her bed, it's beginning to freak me out.
no subject
Well, not blown-up blown-up. I think only two have blown up. The other just - sort of died? But wow, your roommate is missing? That's freaky. I wonder if someone's gotten her too?
no subject
I kind of figured she freaked and was sleeping over somewhere else, she caught me as the kind of girl who would do that.
Well, as long as they're happy, that's good.
I'm kind of curious, how did you wind up here?
((my compie is making weird noises, Alanna might vanish randomly))
no subject
My parents figured it'd be a good idea to have me leave home for a year. One of my best friends died and then my ex-boyfriend cheated on me because I wouldn't have sex with him, and ... She shrugs and looks uncomfortable. I think they might wonder if I'm a little insane, too. Or something.
How did you get here? Is it part of your training?
((that's cool; it's storming here so I might do the same thing if the power goes off or something.))

(Anonymous) 2005-09-18 07:05 am (UTC)(link)Um, no actually. Duke Gareth found out about this school, and he wanted to send someone here to see what other worlds were like, pick up information on information I guess and what not. Jon recommened me. He figured it would give me a chance to be me, though he didn't say to the Duke.
no subject
That was nice of Jon. Was he right? And - this'll sound weird - but how did you get here? Mom and Dad drove me, but I'm somehow guessing you don't have cars.
no subject
Um, well, a spell. Very not pleasant and I wasn't feeling all too good for the first few days. And yes, he was right. Though, you won't catch me admiting this ever again.
